When Led Zeppelin was honored at the Kennedy Center, the band Heart played Stairway to Heaven in front Led Zeppelin as a tribute. You should check it out on KZread. Not only did Heart do a great job, but it is fun to watch the members of Led Zeppelin’s reaction throughout the song. Also, the son of their former drummer had been invited by them to come as their guest. He had turned them down saying that he had another engagement. That engagement was actually playing the drums with Heart during the tribute.😀

Because you mentioned 'performance', and your phrasing implied that an outstanding performance was 'not really that great'. You are way off base if you think the mood somehow magically influenced the people there to believe that is was better than it actually was. If that's the case, then you clearly haven't got a clue how good a singer Ann Wilson is, and how much work she put into that TRIBUTE. It is not a cover, and is very condescending and ignorant of you to say it was. Anyone with half an ounce of feeling could see how much emotion and expression she put into that, with her own style, but in keeping the details and nuances true to Robert Plant's original. As a collaborative effort, it was masterfully arranged and a powerful performance.

"Stairway To Heaven" is their most famous song & considered by many as one of the all time best. Led Zeppelin have a huge library of hits. "Immigrant Song", "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", "Kashmir", "Ramble On", "When The Levee Breaks", “Dazed & Confused”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, "Rock & Roll", "The Ocean", "Over The Hills & Far Away", "The Song Remains The Same", "The Rain Song", "Good Times Bad Times" etc.

I grew up hearing Zeppelin from my parents and my favorite uncle. I was a lifetime fan by the time I hit puberty. It was just part of my DNA by then. What always bothers me is that there is NO music like this anymore. No long ballads that transition. No beautiful lyrics and interesting instruments like a flute that dances around in the sound. Groups like Zeppelin and Queen come to mind - they were different. Not hard rock. Not soft rock. Not pop. Just their own genre. I miss the creativity of groups like this so very much.

This concert was magnificent. I got called by a buddy from the Marines saying he had won tickets to this concert at MSG on a Saturday night. I caught a flight from Dallas to NYC on a Friday morning and took a cab to Brooklyn. His wife had her cousin come over to eat. Yeah we hit off. We hung out a week after the concert. She flashed her huge tits at Robert Plant. I laughed my butt off when she told me he got to see them, but I was gonna be the one playing with them. I flew back to Dallas and a couple of months later she became a Texan.

It's actually surprising how often Led Zeppelin comes up with something you don't expect. When I first saw them live in 1975 from the opening drum intro of Rock and Roll to the end you hardly ever sit in your seat if you weren't standing on it. You keep waiting to hear that guitar intro of this song and it's like a bolt of lightning hits you. And it hits the 35000 others at the same time. Get goosebumps just thinking about it. Great watching with you!

I played the flute and piccolo in my high school band and we used to absolutely annoy our band director during practice when we’d have a brief break and we’d all break out into this song. For some reason it always annoyed our band director to no end and we wouldn’t stop playing until we finished the whole song! Everyone had memorized it beforehand since we planned it out and we did it so often our director finally gave in and let us put it into one of our pep rally routine’s which all the students loved! This was in the 90s but everyone in the school would sing every word! I’ve heard that it’s become a tradition now at my old high school

OMG what a flashback!!!! I had an older brother to curate my tender years of the 70s... I heard Zeppelin (Dyer Maker!!!), Journey, RUSH, Pink Floyd, the Wall, Foreigner, Joe Walsh. I lusted over the cover art of Heart and Queen. Every big hit got welded into my brain, just in time to begin High School as a BigGeek. He joined the Army, I went back to Waylon, Willie, and the Hag. BeeGees, Staying Alive gave me a respite, but not for long.

This came out when I was a teen living in Joliet Illinois. The Chicago rock radio station had so many requests for it that the switchboard couldn’t handle the number of calls. They announced that they would play it once an hour to get people to stop calling in. I was conversing with another commenter on a different channel who stated the Philadelphia station did the same. It was and still is a definitive performance. If anyone else knows of a station who did the same thing, I’d love to know, thanks!

🎼🎹 You get into music. It’s written all over your facial expressions. You appreciate the feelings and express them openly. I’ll venture to say some music causes you to get goosebumps. Keep appreciating it all. As for the Led Zeppelin performers… Robert Plant is a one-of-a-kind voice for sure. Jimmy Page can make a guitar sing. John Paul Jones plays a fine bass and keyboards. And John Bonham becomes between a Rock and then the Roll on the drums.

As you immerse yourself in Led Zeppelin, you should check out Robert Plant's earliest works AS A TEENAGER(!) when he was the Band of Joy. In this link he sings "Hey Joe," a song popularized by Jimmy Hendrix. Listen to this and remember how old Plant was before Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones recruited him to Led Zeppelin. BTW, John Bonham in on this video. He started learning drumming at 15 and rapidly became inarguably the best rock drummer ever, playing for the best rock band ever.

He and JPJ really wanted vocalist Terry Reid, but Reid was already obligated to another band. He, however, recommended Robert Plant. Curious about what Plant looked like, Jimmy asked about him. This is a great progressive folk rock song, and I enjoyed your reaction to it. Page played three guitars on the studio cut, which is well worth a listen. Two acoustic (a 6- and a 12-string) and an electric. This song was the reason he had the double-neck made for him - he couldn't switch guitars during a live performance - but both the 12- and 6- string on his double-neck are electric. He didn't play an acoustic guitar during this song in concert, although he did for other songs during other concerts. Led Zeppelin is an incredibly versatile and creative group of musicians, and if you dive into their music, you'll be amazed at the diversity. Hard rock, blues rock, folk rock, progressive, funk, country, metal, proto-punk, jazz, raga . . .Others have given you good song recommendations but TBH, it's all good so no matter which Led Zeppelin song you listen to, you'll likely enjoy it. ;)

Whaaaat? Where have you been living, on Mars? LOL! I was lucky enough to see Zeppelin live at MSG in '73, '75 and '77!

Check out some of the other live songs from these 1973 Madison Square Garden concerts they did. My particular favourites are 'Since I've Been Loving You', 'No Quarter', 'Whole Lotta love', 'Black Dog' and, if you want to watch 30mins of live performance perfection, 'Dazed and Confused' - one of the best live performances ever! Obviously the studio versions are perfection, but what I love most about Led Zeppelin is the improvisation and energy of their live performances - they never played a song exactly the same twice. Jealous of you embarking on your Led Aep journey! Great video, thanks.

My two favorite🔥🔥🔥 ⭐️"Since Ive Been Loving You" at Madison Square Garden (you'll be surprised that this Rock band can kill the blues which they love) ⭐️"Kashmir" Celebration Day (a one day reunion concert in '07 with Jason Bonham, John's son on drums. This is the song Robert says he wishes to be remembered for & my favorite song of all time - check out if 32 years later they still got it😉)

I’m about 1/3 of the way into Led Zeppelin’s biography and it is incredibly interesting. I’ve also read Eric Clapton’s autobiography. When you begin reading about the history of rock, particularly British rock, it’s crazy how intertwined all of these famous musicians were! Jimmy Page was very well known for his early electric guitar work. Robert Plant didn’t come into the picture until after Jimmy had been playing for quite a while.

No acoustic Guitars used on this. Jimmy Page played a Gibson Gibson EDS-1275 Twin neck with a 6 string in the low position and a 12 string in the high position.

The idea that Led Zeppelin would be performing ‘Stairway to Heaven’ live presented a logistical problem for Page. With its complex structure and multiple different sections, Page utilises a different guitar for each passage. How was he going to recreate that live? The answer came in the form of the double-neck Gibson EDS-1275, which Page had to have custom-ordered due to the model no longer being in production by 1971.
