The refreshing side of you and Yuka showing genuine concern and at times fear of features, is SO relatable and real for most riders. I'm glad to see you commented. You two are a perfect example of being humble and showing the reality of progression in mountain biking!

First, Weird thing to say from someone who started out on GMBN. And second, I started riding at 49. Since I have no friends that ride mountain bikes pretty much everything I learned was from these "small time non-racer youtube creators". I started riding for health reasons. You guys literally saved my life. And I'm thankful for it everyday.

There is a huge wave of us older riders. I do like to race, but it's just one of the fun things we can do as mountain bikers. We have several shops and restaurants in Southern California that host rides. I wonder if there are some in your area to join.

That is weird, GMBN was made for people to get into mountain biking (Look at Blake & Neil just doing stupid races). Yeah, Neil brings up racing a lot, but it's as a "life lesson" tip. The difference between the KZreadrs versus Racers is that... Well I want to see real trails, real people riding. Not racers trying to push themselves. I don't follow mountain bike racing because I don't follow sports, so Henry's mindset is very very bad towards riders who just want to 1. Have fun 2. Doing it for health and 3. Don't care about the professional scene.

Things have gone very downhill since Levy left. The phoned in field test this year just really laid it out in the open that their content took a massive nosedive after Levy's departure. Probably some sour grapes with Henry and Kaz there. I suspect a bunch of other well known PB staff have left (i.e. Sarah Moore) but kept their departure under the radar.

They are not just out of touch, they are straight up toxic. I've seen one of their main editors make absolutely obnoxious, rude comments towards other users, then use their mod powers to delete the comment an hour or so afterwards. I saw this happen multiple times on "controversial" articles, where the main controversy was based around the fact the author of the article barely put any effort into it and people politely pointing out flaws or disagreements were insulted in return. If you watch some of their videos and read between the lines a bit, you can catch this person making similar comments, even to other editors. The world is in desperate need of a written publication for the mountain bike world that is down to earth and not written by narcissists. I mainly follow NSMB, but I wish they would get more coverage and exposure, they seem and act like real people who engage with the community in a down to earth and respectful manner.

I am 46yr old and very much new to MTB, So far I have recorded every ride I have made and hearing comments like this has made me want to post them. I think it is important for noobs like me to see where other people started from instead of just seeing seasoned shredders in every video. Seeing someone being reluctant at first to lean the bike into a berm or having timing issue's on jumps just like I am having is really important. As someone who bumbles down trails and posts it on KZread sometimes, I greatly appreciate this video. Thank you for saying it on such a big platform. Also, you nailed it about trail recon. The only reason I started making videos was because there weren't really any other videos of the trails in my area at the time. I'm not fit, I'm not a great mountain biker, a "content creator", or an "influencer". I just like to ride bikes and sometimes make videos.

As a busy person who gets maybe 1h of riding every 2 weeks and can't find pictures on most of trailforks trails and can't afford time to go to the wrong trail centers or take the wrong bike, thank you for letting others see what the trails look like while planning the night before

Great video Ryan! The "watch me walk it" clip made me laugh because I make a point of including moments when I'm not feeling comfortable and decide to walk a feature or take the ride around. And you know what? People appreciate it because it makes them feel more comfortable doing the same.

Exactly, when you or I or anyone posts showing walking a feature or taking the bypass or whatever is what I am looking for when I research trails to ride. I want to learn what are the challenging features so I know what to expect or what to avoid or even if the trail is one to even ride. The highlight posts are fun to watch but for me full raw pov rides are my research bible. Just found your channel and will be checking out your videos.

What’s ironic is PinkBike got so popular because anyone could upload their own photos and videos to their platform before social media or KZread was really a thing. I remember being a 14 year old kid stoked to share my content on there.

I am so grateful for brave people like you on the internet. You're 100% right, seeing someone else struggling means I'm not alone. Seeing someone else stop at features, encourages me to ride safe. I don't ever want to race, I just want to enjoy the fun of it at my level. I hope Pinkbike take note and realise how off the mark they were, but in the meantime, keep going! Thank you for taking the time for me, and so many others you don't even know, thanks for making our lives better.

Small creators FTW! Watching Matty Active go from a guy who stumbled into biking while delivering packages to making highly polished, fun, interesting videos while seeing him grow as a rider has been amazing. I’ve always told people, don’t wait until you think you’re good enough to start making videos. Make videos now, because the people that are going to be the most invested in your story are starting at the same spot you are.

I thought the same thing when watching Matty Active go from riding around the city on an entry hardtail to traveling out of Colorado on some really good full squish bikes.

Everyone that’s ever recognized me out on the trails has always been thankful and appreciative of the videos I’ve put out. The goal has never been to become famous or to put myself on a pedestal, but to provide an honest and authentic experience from someone who loves riding bikes.

Well said! I consider myself an average to possibly below average rider and I've had many people come up to me to say they appreciate my videos because it shows them that they CAN do it themselves. If only pro riders made videos, everyone would be scared to even try! Kind of a short sighted approach for them to take.

I think another good point to if people only had professional level videos to watch it could be detrimental to encouraging people to even try to start mountain biking. Some of that stuff looks cool, but is terrifying to people to think that’s what it’s all about. Lots of great points. Thanks for taking a stand Ryan!

The faster you ride with any action camera, the worse the video quality becomes. It gets pixelated, grainy and fuzzy at the same time. Just pause any riding video and try to tellme it's even close to 1080p

Not just the features, but the bikes. These guys are riding bikes that cost as much as a motorcycle. I'm not spending more than $3k EVER on a bike because I can't justify it with the amount riding I'm able to do. So not only can I not relate to the smooth, bike park trails they ride, which have massive jumps but less tech features than my local XC trails, but I can't relate to the bikes. Then you have guys like Sam Pilgrim, a crazy talented rider who's out there shredding free/cheap bikes, taking Walmart bikes to Whistler and the like and ending the video by saying you don't need to spend thousands on bikes to have fun. You've got Spindatt saying "Every bike is a good time." You got Kev Central updating big box bikes to show it can be done and they can be adequate trail bikes. The gate keeping of MTB is the antithesis of the what the community aspires to be. Everyone out on the trails, pushing themselves just a little beyond their skill level in an effort to get better and have fun. Whether you're an XC rider or you're taking chair lifts at the downhill park. It's all good. At least we're not roadies, right? 😉 (Jk)

Some of my favorite videos are the local guys posting with a couple hundred subscribers, having honest reactions to scary trail features. In some cases they'll skip them, but in others they hit them and the stoke level is unmatched. I love your content, Pinkbike's content, and so many other big names, but the small guys are the realest of them all. Thanks for the video!

Absolutely! I have had more than one person comment on my videos and say that they love that we're out there riding trails and hitting features they feel they can ride and relate to. I've probably had as many comments about how much they love seeing how much fun we're having as anything else. A lot of those Pro rider videos are highlighting things that less than 10% of the riders would attempt, and many are less than 5%. There has to be something to cater to the other 90%!!

As a small (tiny) content creator, man this felt amazing hearing you say this, Ryan. I am not the best rider, even out of my friends, but I love this sport and I want to share it as much as I can. The care, and the bravery it took to send this and “go up against” one the, if not the absolute biggest players in the game is huge. Thank you, sir. I appreciate you so much.

I’m recently retired (49) & decided to start working on an MTB social media presence since I love the sport so much. I had a couple years where I couldn’t ride, so I’m rebuilding my skill set. If I’d heard that podcast on my own, I’m not sure I’d even want to keep riding. So thank you for your words of encouragement. I truly mean that. Another point about you mentioning Remy: If every MTB video was of him riding, we’d lose so many people. They’d think everyone rode like that & be too scared to join the ranks. Gatekeeping only thins the herd & will be the death of MTB as a sport.

Love this Ryan. I truly feel that it's SO important for people to flex their creativity. Sometimes that comes in the form of making videos. I know for me personally it changed my life. I was stuck in the routine of life. Get up, go to work, go home, dinner, bed, repeat. But when I started producing content it sparked the creativity in me and I couldn't WAIT to film and edit the next idea. It brought so much excitement back in to my life. It's always amazing to see a new creator come on the scene and see that discovery happen for them!

Wow, I admire you for creating this reaction video. It's delivered in a very professional, and thoughtful way. I am one of those "bumbling down easy trails", and I started this at 9yo, about a year ago. One thing that us small creators make it so relatable is seeing how we progress in both content creation, and MTB riding. I've accumulated so many GoPro POV videos of me bumbling down the trail, but I realised, if I put it together as a trail guide, someone will benefit from it and as a way of me giving back. Plus they can see it from a kid's perspective riding down double blacks on a 24 inch bike.

Actually, it was stumbling onto your so called “bumbling” 2017 and prior videos that inspired me to get back into mountain biking after a five year hiatus. I’ve found loads more usefulness and enjoyment from all of you content creators than from Pinkbike. So a big THANK YOU to you and all of you content creators for what you do! Don’t loose sleep over these guys!

Your point about checking out trails that might be hard to find info on, is basically the driving force behind my channel. Not a lot of info out there about MTB trails in Thailand! Well said Ryan! That may have been an off the cuff comment by those guys (they are good dudes in our experience!) but certainly one that deserved to be called out. One of the best things about mountain biking is that almost anyone who can ride a bike can do it at some level, and love it just as much as a pro. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

The issue is as much as I like them this is a pattern of behavior. The pinkbike podcast often has comments that are disconnected from the average rider and quite dismissive. I get that the PB guys mostly hang out with industry people or at least people close to it but they need to be able to understand the perspective of a typical rider. That's what I tried to do when I was writing over a decade ago so I'm surprised they have a problem with it being older and way more experienced than a 25-30 year old, priviledged kid which I was at the time.

Thanks for sharing this Ryan, as a content creator this definitely hits. This sort of speak will continue to perpetuate barriers in our sport. Imma keep posting my dance vids tho.

Thanks Ryan for putting this out there! I love how you circled back to the point of encouraging more people to tell their story and upload their videos. And I think that’s where Henry and Kaz miss the mark. For many of us it’s not about just filming us on a trail, it’s about telling our story of our experience. And that’s important. Because we all know many people learn by doing. And seeing other people’s experiences out on the trails gives us insight and excitement about riding in those places. I can’t tell you how many times people come up to me on the trails and tell me they are there because I did a video about riding there. THAT’S the point of creating the content! Not because of how well (or not well) I rode the trails but because I was there and viewers wanted to experience the same stoke! 🤙🏼 Keep it up Ryan, hopefully more people are encouraged!

You have some great points. Everybody should be free to film and upload their ride or doing whatever video they want. It's great for everybody.

This video really lifted me up. I've put up a few very amateur videos, and plan to put together trail guides for all my local trails. I've been riding for just over a year. Pink bike content is so unrelatable to me, they test bikes I will never ride, and ride at skill levels I may nvere reach. I enjoy beginners and intermediate level riders putting videos up. Seeing growth in a person is way more interesting than pink Ike reviewing an 8,000 dollar bike.

We need people to speak out and thank you Ryan for doing exactly that. I see a lot of bad content from them, specially PB Academy and now this.. it seems like wrong people are in wrong places. MTB community is all about supporting and cheering to be better self and have as much fun as possible.

Man I don't know where I'd be without those trail preview videos. they're a lifesaver and it sucks to hear people talking down to it. Ive recently stumbled upon a guy who goes by "Average Dude Riding Hard Trails" and ive binge watched almost all of his videos. he has just less than 600 subscribers rn but I think that'll increase soon. He makes some very relatable videos about him riding the hardest trails he can find. Hilarious.

Thanks for teaching us to "stand up to the jump" and being an advocate for all of us MTBers out here!

Amazing video. Thank you for sharing. This just shows how we need more progressive thinking in social media. The only way to get good at it, is to do it. It’s like stand up comedy. You can only test a joke on a stage, and for social you can only find out what works and doesn’t work by posting and seeing what rises. We are in a new media landscape and old school thinking, even from the best, is not helpful. I sing the song in my head on the approach to any jump to psych myself up and send it. I was afraid to jump prior to that video.

It’s fun to watch a pro ride a local trail but I actually learn way more about it when I find a POV run by someone down at my skill level. Also it’s awesome to watch some of these folks progress.

I listened to the episode. I went back and relistened to minutes 27-32. The influencer joke was directed at Matt as a “how do you feel about this?” while also being self referential to working as basically an influencer. The internet filling up joke is as much about the ubiquity of video and how there is just so much. I think if you listen to the whole exchange There is a lot less here to make an issue out of. There’s room for everyone and no one is about to lose their influencer job because a couple people made a joke.

I never comment. Never. But I really appreciate you speaking up. I’m a very low level rider and I completely appreciated some of these newer creators showing me trails and how to get better. Also having watched others like you grow in your abilities is a huge boost of confidence. Keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t listen to the noise. Happy trails.

Thanks for creating an inclusive community for ALL mountain bikers on KZread. The community is one of the main reasons I enjoy this sport so much and it's a shame to see Pinkbike discredit majority of their fan base. Making videos is a hobby of mine and I thoroughly enjoy it! It took me years to work up the courage to start posting my own videos. Thanks for being a voice for us small creators!

Before the explosion of mountain bike content creation, you would only see the pros riding insane trails and features. While its amazing and incredible to watch, as an average rider you cannot even begin to think of getting to that level or doing said riding. Creators like you are relatable, knowledgeable and helpful for 95 percent of the mountain bike community. Its really refreshing to see someone cautious of a gnarly feature or trail, makes you realize you arent the only one. Your videos are entertaining, and great to watch for people who ride. You're obviously doing something right or else you wouldn't have 400k subscribers. Keep on doing you, and don't let anyones opinion or thoughts make you think twice.

It felt like you were talking right to me… I think what it all comes down to is that we all love this sport so much and we just want to share with the world to get more awesome people on bikes! Ryan well said. As someone in that slack group who you've helped many times it's refreshing to have someone call @pinkbike out. It's that attitude at pinkbike that's had me not paying attention to them for years. I focused my efforts in the beginning trying to make videos and blogs and spending days on end submitting and having them rejected only to be accepted when someone that knows someone gets it pushed through... not based on the quality but based on who knows who.

Nice. Love your work. I firmly believe that having everyone’s video or view is the best part of recon. When I’m heading out on a ride I can guarantee that one of your videos is on my list. Some days we ride fast and some days we ride slow. We need all the information we can get to get the best ride day we can.

Watching videos of you and other content creators "bumbling down easy trails" is why I love mountain biking even more and why I have gotten better as a rider! Keep posting your videos and I will keep watching. They are very, very entertaining.

As someone who lives away from home, videos by locals are my favourite thing to watch. Big shout out to @TrailAdvisor for showing all the best new Irish trails!

Gatekeeping is a pretty telltale sign of insecurity. Older media outlets like PB have to adapt to the changing times. The variety of YT content creators out there have done wonders for increasing adoption into our sport. I've been fortunate to have been around the scene for the last 25 years and can objectively say that new riders have never had it better . Keep on doing what you guys do.

It's called "KZread" not "ProTube". This is not a money pipeline for professionals, it is a platform that was invented specifically for individuals to put their experiences out there. It is the exact opposite of what they assert.

I agree, and saw your Trek Slash review and compared to theirs, yours were honest review, their review was biased PinkBike is being paid to do a good review. Lol.

It makes me think of Warren Miller. His movies captured the beautiful, simple joy of skiing, all the way from beginners to the most extreme and everyone in between. His love for the sport was so contagious that you couldn't WAIT to go skiing after seeing the new movie each fall. It was an event that kicked off the season in ski towns across north America and not a single one of us ski bums even noticed whether or not he raced.

Watching this video and reading these comments has been such a welcome dose of positivity and encouragement this small creator needed. This is why I love this community!

Some of my favorite ride-recon videos are from plain, Joe-shmo riders who record going down trails at normal-people speed so I know what I’m in for. Thank you for standing up for them and us!

Thanks for posting. I’m new (at age 56) to MTB, and one of my favorite things about the folks I meet, even the total shredders at various downhill parks is how nice and supportive everyone is. It’s really special. Thanks for reinforcing that. Instant like and subscribe.

Bullying, gatekeeping and constant negativity have no place in our sport; at the end of the day we all dress up in silly costumes and bumble our bikes through the forest. Riding skill has no correlation with how valuable of a person someone is and anybody implying otherwise needs a reality check. Fight the good fight Ryan! 🫡

Indeed but it’s alot harder to replicate now because those who have been doing for years have pushed the quality bar up alot. It’s harder to have a usp as more do it which makes it harder to establish yourself in an ocean of mediocrity that is KZread on any subject you choose

What’s funny is Radek from Pinkbike started out by emailing us his early videos of the crew’s Calgary shenanigans to drum up interest in the PB site. Those early videos would give today’s Friday fails a run for their money. At the core, PB was intended to be a place for mountain bikers to share their passion…it has changed since the boys moved on to new pursuits.

You know it's guys like you, & Remy, & Yoann, and even the guys at Pinkbike who I've personally learned a lot from that pushed me to go further, harder, and longer. That really helped me early on after +30 years off a bike to really progress my riding, and help me discover brands I'd never heard of, and even buy a bike (Ibis Ripmo AF) I never would've considered otherwise. I've watched some of those bumbling down a green or blue trail videos of trail systems I'm familiar with and been like, c'mon man you could go so much faster! And then I remember what it was like to get back out on trail after +30 years for the first time just over 18 months ago. Life changing. Sometimes, I think that some of these personalities have forgotten that feeling, have forgotten where they came from, and that not all of us get to ride $10k+ bikes just to test for free, even get paid to do it. So, thanks for speaking out, for all of us little guys. ✌

Thanks so much for the video Ryan. I’m glad you spoke up for what I believe is the majority of mountain bikers in a tactful and thoughtful way. I’m one of those mountain bikers that very occasionally posts a video of myself “bumbling” down a trail…mainly to share with my friends and family who want to see what the trails by me are like. It’s unfortunate to see a major publication like pink bike so out of touch with their audience, which has been the case for quite some time.

I watched Matty Active when he first started. He wasn’t a great mountain biker by any stretch but his enthusiasm was off the charts and infectious. It has been fun to watch him improve over time. That kind of stoke exemplifies the soul of the mtb community. Keep it up!

me too I followed his channel and followed his journey and the reason we watch these "noob" videos is we can totally relate. not all of us are born skilled and pros so we cling on to something we can relate to. And not all of us ever dreamed to become a pro. Just a common mountain biker having fun with his mountain bike. these elitist think they know better.

Mate, I’m fully 100% with you on this! I could write a comment that would take 10mins to read about this! I’m one of those creators, (seems funny calling myself that), I’ve had a KZread channel for years and didn’t know you could even make money! So good on you for putting this up! I watch you and I know this would have been tough for you to put up! Well done! One day, like you say, I hope my content gets better! So sad that the ‘big wigs’ try and put a dampener on us little guys… anyway, water off a ducks back, I love your content and I love checking out the up and coming Mtb KZreadrs content, it’s encouraging and helpful in so many ways. I hope now that you, as a very much respected KZreadr, have had your say, can feel better and can move on and still enjoy the process because I would hate to not see you content anymore. I love it and thank you for doing it as it’s been so helpful to me and many many others.

Thank you for calling this out. Pinkbike has had an attitude/gatekeeping problem for years and now they're surprised they're going to have to share their sponsorship budget with creators who actually make people feel included. Whoops.

Right on Ryan, can't say you nailed it enough! I am personally an intermediate rider and typically watch channels of content creators that are at my level and a little better, I'm always trying to improve and sometimes watch just to be entertained. I try to make content to entertain and help new riders. No need to be snooty.

Awesome response! For me, putting content with me stumbling down trails or getting over the fear of a scary feature to me and maybe not others is more genuine. Keeping it real and showing the struggles that the sport can present to you from time to time. Anyone new to content creation, keep on doing what you're doing!

I got back into mountain biking after 20 years off (was one of the early mountain bikers in my area in the 90s) BECAUSE of KZread channels like yours, Seths, Alexs and a couple other of the channels that kept it approachable, positive and full of stoke. I have Zero interest in ever riding with any of the Pinkbike crew, but would gladly ride with any one of the content creators who is positive and inclusive.

Thank you for this video, it's really important to share this message. I've done my first little mountain bike video this autumn (and yes it's very much a "tumbling down" a trail 😂). It took quite the courage to upload it and fortunately I haven't seen the pinkbike podcast before.

Good video with a strong message! Every mountain biker who wants to should dare to put their videos online. The most important thing is that the person uploading it had fun making the video and is proud of it. I came across your videos when I was looking for a "how to jump" tutorial and then got stuck here because I find the channel very entertaining. Keep doing your thing! Greetings from Germany ✌🏻

Nailed it Ryan! Case in point, before riding Hiline in Sedona I watched videos of riders doing it carefully and slowly. That prepared me well enough to clear most of the big features. In comparison, Nate Hills video made it look like a green trail. Thank you for standing by smaller content creators. We all appreciate you!

Most mtb youtubers have crazy riding skills and not only they/you share your adventures with us, you also save our lame/bad days...so thank you and keep doing what's you doing and good work will keep you rolling in the jungle...🤙🤙

You are spot on! You were one of the 1st KZreadrs I subscribed to when I got serious about riding at 39yo. I actually prefer watching people "bumble" through, why cause it shows me I can do these trails too. Great post keep em up and keep em positive

Can't agree more! I'm 62, previously a cancer patient, and here because I love mountainbiking and the entire community around it. The fact that there are so many content creators on all levels, having interesting stories to tell (many of them even commenting here) gives me the the inspiration to keep on biking for as long as my body will let me. That elitism and snobbery just makes me wanna laugh. They are just plain and simply wrong. Keep on doing what you do.

Well spoken Sir, I have been riding MTB's since the 80's, raced DH in the 90's, won a World Cup in 99 and started putting on my own DH race in Cali for several years that was targeted at getting young kids into DH racing. I am now 53 and spend a lot of my spare time working on local trails and educating hikers, equestrians and anyone else I run into about Mt biking and everything that makes it so fun. At the end of the day we all just want to ride our bikes and enjoy being outside and spend time with family and friends. Your channel, Seth, Rich Drew and others to me are informative and I always learn something and just fun to watch. Keep up the good work, stay positive and just have fun.

I've never had a bad experience with any other mountain biker on the trails. We're out to enjoy riding no matter what skill level. Also, I love watching other riders ride trails that I might want to ride, be it at a pro level or a beginner. Mad props to you, Ryan, for taking this stance.

One of my favourite creators is the Trail Tracker. He films his ridding around Switzerland and it gives lots of good ideas of where to go riding in the future and what is doable for normal people. Thanks for making this video, I love you and the other KZread creators videos. You are way more relatable and great for getting inspired. The MTB media, and many other sports for that matter, are only talking about a level of performance that I can never reach with the time I have, bikes that are so stupidly expensive I don’t even read/watch the reviews anymore. What’s the point? So please, keep creating, you are the people who get my “average rider” attention!

Talk about a low blow from PB. If it weren't for all the content creators (Seth's Bike (BERM PEAK), BCPOV, BKXC, Van Can, Singletrack Sampler and Loam Ranger, etc), I wouldn't ride as much or enjoy biking and all, you guys make me want to go out. Thanks to all of you for putting these videos out for us to enjoy.

Here in Romania we have the same problem. I am not a quote on quote moutain biker, but everytime I post a clip riding a MTB through trails there is an army of people who are "deep"into the industry and racing that feel the need to tell me that I will never be a professional rider or that I will not win any races. Thanks for the video, it was an eye opener.

I love this. Thank you! I ride 3-4 days per week, never had racing aspirations, nor do I care about racing. Many of my friends do, but to each their own. Good on you for calling them out.

I appreciate your perspective my man. I’m a younger channel and 100000% fall down easy hills. I’ve been a follower of your channel, and many of the top commenter channels, for a long time. I find all of yall hugely inspirational and feel warm and fuzzy with this video! Keep on doing what you do broski.

HUGE respect to you for calling them out on this. I had no idea. I wouldve never had any idea because I don't care about their podcasts. I wonder if they were really just having such a shitty day that caused them to say some stupid shit. I 100% agree. Yes, they're humans and they're allowed to make mistakes but It's no longer a "mistake" when you have the ability to influence potentially millions of people the way pinkbike does and it just simply makes no sense for them to be so blatantly rude and childish

I also posted this on Spindatt but every time I go on holiday with the bike I use these POV videos to plan the trails I will ride. You are not just providing a service but entertainment keep doing it.

Good for you, Ryan! I find their hot takes ridiculous. As a 55-yr old mtbr and new KZreadr 😁 I am uploading videos where other people in their 50s, 60s and 70s will see me, an intermediate rider out there. My whole goal is to encourage people to keep riding, lift weights and see if we can still be on a bike in our 80s. So sorry Pinkbike if I'm not good enough, but the joy of bike is what it's all about for most of us.

It's funny, I find myself pretty self conscious of my own riding and the content I produce already WITHOUT hearing a giant company (that has staff, writers and people to help create their movies btw) speak this way of the stuff us smaller channels produce. Definite punch in the gut.

I have never posted a comment to any of the vids I’ve watched - until right now. Ryan, what a great, positive response to a lousy situation. It took some backbone to post this video and stand up for what you know is right. Good on you. As for what are my favs to watch? You’re #1 and I also dig Singletrack sampler, Kyle & April, Super Rider and Phil! Keep up the positive vibes and great work man!

The great thing about KZread is it's diversity. Channels are usually popular for one of two reasons. Either they are a professional at what they do, or more commonly, they make great, entertaining videos.

Funnily enough the best tips I've gotten from a skill improvement standpoint have been from your videos despite watching a lot of content from the pros. Much more relatable and much closer to where I'm at as a rider. Keep up the great work!

I like to research places I'm going to visit for the first time. I like it when somebody says where to park, how long it should take, what to watch out for, which direction to go, etc. I also learned long ago that one's level of proficiency with a camera and editing software does not equate with their level of skill or knowledge of mountain biking. I've sat through plenty of well-lit and beautifully shot videos where the person didn't know what he was talking about. I've also watched great content from a guy who really knows his stuff but looks like he's being held hostage and talking into a cell phone with a single light bulb hanging over his head.

Absolutely spot on! Not to mention the fact that pinkbike themselves have a section of their site dedicated to people uploading videos. I find it sad that Henry in particular seems to have developed this growing ego since leaving gmbn. I've really missed the diversity of some of the other staff at pinkbike recently too. It seems to be these three that have really taken center stage which is a really shame and not the direction that I expected them to go when bought out by Outside media. Thanks for speaking out and I think this was really eloquently said.

Spot on Ryan! I like watching the pros ride certain trails, but when I want to research a trail I want to ride, I want to see a mere mortal ride it to see if I could ride the features too! Oh and if Pinkbike think we only watch the pros, tell them to take a look at your subs and views! They are so out of touch! Well said. 👌

Big thank you for making this video! I only started writing a couple years ago and immediately got in love with making content behind it. I know my content is not the best, and I'm still learning but it's so much fun learning new skills on the bike and with technology. It was also encouraging to hear this as I just had a really gnarly wreck on what some folks would call a "easy feature." unfortunately due to that, I will be recovering for a long time but I'm more eager to get back on the bike and making the best content I can around it because of this video. Thank you again!

Oh wow - I wasn't aware about it. Maybe Pinkbike is feeling the competition from the "smaller" mountain bike content creators and that's their way to diminish other peoples videos. For me personally, I really enjoy the variety of all sorts of different mountain bike content which is available in so many amazing channels on KZread - it helps me improving or honing my skills on a bike, understanding tech like suspension setups and whatnot much better and just having a blast watching your videos. And damn, you are right, it takes a lot of courage to put your own content out and that should be something you should be proud of.

YT is for everyone. Thanks for standing up for the smaller guys and for all of us. They really missed the mark and comments like that just make them look terrible to most. Meh. Keep up the great work! Quality YT videos take so much work and skill!

It's kinda the point of the whole thing, isn't it? Most of mountain biking isn't at Whistler. Whistler is a great place I'm sure, but it's not required to enjoy the sport or make good content.

This was spot on. I first started watching KZreadrs to view trails I planned to ride, not to see people shred double blacks. Even most of the PB content I have watched is for the average person plodding their way down a new trail and pushing their boundaries. Part of what makes Remy so great is that he does both of these things and he is accessible to people like me. Anyhoo, love your content, even when you just ride easy trails. :)

It's fun watching pros nail mind bending lines and drops, but I get just as much joy watching new riders progress. Maybe they did chicken out on that 3 ft drop in that video. But its so satisfying to see them nail it in the next video! Some perfect examples of people doing it right are Kara Beals and Jamie and Ben with Matt Jones. Seeing Jamie nail his first ever backflip was every bit as exciting as seeing Matt land any of his world firsts. Watching Kara go from barely being able to ride a bike, to becoming a better rider than me is WAY more inspiring to me as a rider than huge backflips off of cliffs for redbull. You may argue that these riders only got success because they had support from their pro friends, BUT THAT IS EXACLTY THE POINT!!! we want to be able to see the whole range of skill levels and progression, and big brands and their pro's need to be more aware of this. With all their skill and star power, Matt Jones and Tom Cardy they to use it to pull others up with them, rather than just look down at less experienced riders and gatekeep. I really hope Pinkbike picks up on this, and will acknowledge that they they probably spoke without thinking, and that they do want to cater to all levels of biking, not just the rich and elite.

As someone who loves making videos, i often feel when people see me out filming, that theyre judging me becuase im just an average rider filming myelf and that you need to be a pro in order for it to be cool. We all just do this becuse we love it, no need to ruin anybodys fun pinkbike

Yoooo!!!!! @splooshmtb Point proven, right here and now. I live out at the beach in the Eastern shore. We have basically nothing to ride within two hours of us and so if I'm traveling to ride, and especially if I'm taking friends along whose skills I have to account for, I NEED to do KZread trail recon. I've watched so many of your videos for places like Bacon Ridge, Rockburn, Fairland, etc... it's an invaluable tool and I really appreciate you, bud.

I grew up riding a Mongoose through the woods and that was my mountain biking and I fully understand there's so many people in that exact place in life who watch these videos purely to see what's around them and if they would enjoy it. And I've gotten countless first timers out on my bikes because of it, some even got the itch! You and everyone else posting content from real local trails with real everyday riders offer a much more tangible value to the MTB community because it actually helps, not just sell ad space for the algorithm. Plus GMBN is better 😜👌

Those comments by the PB guys are a bummer. Everyone starts as a grom. Everyone YT was created for the type of guys "bumbling down the trails" just trying to show the world a glimpse into their life/passion. I actually find it more enjoyable to watch the non-pro amateurs because they're out there just pushing record and having fun. You just hit your first jump and got 2" of air and can't stop talking about how cool it was? Dude. I'm right there with you in the stoke. I am a MTB coach specifically because seeing people get excited about mountain biking gets me excited, which it turn makes me psyched, which then usually ends up with the two of us flying down the mountain at mach chicken giggling like little school girls. Thank you for not buying into elitism and encouraging your audience. What keeps so many people in this sport is the sense of community and collaboration that I haven't seen anywhere else. That's what we need. Keep at it 🤙

I could rant on about Pinkbike on many levels but this takes the biscuit. As a platform with such high reach I feel Pinkbike has a duty to the riders and creators that make up 99% of the industry, not just the elite. I get this feeling way too often with PInkbike and how far off the mark they are with making regular riders feel valued and inspired. Bad job Pinkbike. Good job Loam Ranger.
