“I have a 5% chance of living past 5 years.” (Audience caller) | The Real Stuff

Ойын-сауық

In this week’s episode, I sit down with Jordy Glassner, a 31-year-old wife and mother who is living with terminal brain cancer. When Jordy first decided that she wanted to share her story publicly on social media, a mutual friend put us in touch so that I could show her the ropes. I’m so honored to have her joining me on our show to share her story with all of you. In this conversation, Jordy courageously opens up about her unexpected battle with glioblastoma. Her story begins with a chilling numbness and evolves into a fight for her life. Jordy’s recount of the disbelief, the emergency surgery, and the pain of not being able to see her son before the operation is a powerful testament to a mother's love and resilience in the face of harrowing odds. The narrative doesn't stop at survival; it's a relentless journey of adaptation to a new reality. Jordy eloquently speaks to how her diagnosis has permeated every aspect of her life, from the loss of a career to the redefinition of her self-identity and personal relationships. Through her eyes, we witness the grief for a past life and the transformation of relationships, yet we also discover the potential for deeper bonds and new perspectives. Jordy’s experience, punctuated by the ebbs and flows of treatment and waiting periods, offers listeners an intimate window into the emotional complexity that accompanies a life-altering diagnosis and the unwavering hope that can emerge from its depths.

What an incredible human being Jordy is! I relate to her on SO many levels in SO many ways. I am a cancer survivor... was diagnosed at the age of 36 with stage 3 bilateral breast cancer. It has changed my life meteorically. I can't put it into words most days. I know I'm beyond lucky to be alive and so grateful for every moment I have. I've lost dear friends to this disease. My mother has had cancer three times and now my uncle is going through it. It's gut-wrenching. Something can happen to any of us at any time. Death comes for all. Having a life-threatening experience is a major lesson to live in the moment and really, truly not take anything for granted. I really hope this beautiful interview shifts some perspectives in the best way possible. I'm so inspired by her courage to come on here and be so raw. Jordy, you've inspired me to share my story. 🌠

Love to you, Jordy. My husband had cancer(In remission?, clean scan March 6, 2024), I have felt the darkness. It's so dark, so hard. Telling our kids was the hardest. I wish you strength, happiness, peace..... everything you hope for. I am thinking of you.

Thanks for sharing this is so thought provoking. My dad died of cancer, my sister “beat” cancer, and our mom also passed away. Death in any form is so hard on everyone involved but unavoidable and this topic shouldn’t be avoided. It definitely helps us to realize how short life is and remind us of what is truly important. I feel grateful my blessings and for having heard this story thank u!
