It's so funny, a throwaway line that was never even supposed to be seen by the public has become literally iconic in the DW fanbase. I love David Tennant

I think the most impressive thing here is the fact that he said all of that nonsense with a completely straight face and continued into the no. 23 bit without changing his cadence or showing any sign that he had literally just gone on a rant about pears and spouted nonsense words not two seconds beforehand. Hats of to David Tennant for just being a really fantastic actor. :D

The thing was, they told him this right before they did the clip so he wasn't able to practice it. Ei, he was able to think of anything to say right away and NAILED IT!

The Rory in "as Rory just pointed out" wouldn't of course be Rory Williams because he only showed up during Eleven's years. So he's probably referring to Rory Taylor, cameraman during that season. www.imdb.com/name/nm0853114/ That also means the bit about the Housemartins was probably an honest opinion by Tennant, not in character as the Doctor. Except the Housemartins broke up in 1988, so they couldn't have played in 1990.

I'm always impressed with how quickly and completely he snaps back to character.

THIS is why I admire actors and acting. While the quality might be bad, almost anybody can memorize the text they have to say from script, but this, just talking from the head about nothing so it could fill a space for the FF scene, when there is nothing in the script... that, IMO is the true brilliance of acting

Really worth watching, The humour in this clip is pretty well representative for the show and the angels are the kind of wonderfully weird and fascinating things they run into all the time.

The show he's referencing is called "Just a Minute" where panelists have to attempt to speak for a minute without repetition, hesitation, or deviation. If someone slips up you can buzz in, gain a point, and make your attempt to be speaking when the minute ends. One of the crew members "Rory" probably used it as a simile of what he's supposed to do so they can shoot enough jibberish to fast forward through in the final cut.

I like David Tennant's sense of humour.

I would have so much trouble keeping a straight face throughout this! He did an excellent job! :D

The pear bit was probably inspired by the list in the New Adventures Virgin Publishing novel Human Nature that Human Nature & Family of Blood were based on. The text from the novel reads like this: "4. Eat pears. I hate pears, I don't want to wake up and taste that." (Pg 46) I wish that bit remained in the episode but you can only adapt so much.

Aww, come on Doctor, pears are delicious! ...well, at least in my opinion.

I like pears. It's getting the right kind of pears that The Doctor should try. Find some yellow, mildly bruised up pears, slice them up and try those. You can also try Asian Pears. They have a very mild taste, almost like a melon or watermelon. Those are good to. But maybe that's just a Time Lord thing and they don't like pears. Lol.
