Usually in Britain the poppy is intended to be a symbol of respect for those who fought/died fighting for "our" country, Celtic have very Irish roots and therefor, quite understandably, don't wish to show such respect, especially when they were on the other side of some of these wars - for instance, my pals mum is Irish and she was growing up during one of Britain's 'special operations' in Ireland, where her 16 year old brother was dragged out of the house by Brittish soldiers and murdered in the streets - are you going to tell her and her family, and the many other victims of that war, that they ought to show respect for the Brittish soldiers that died slaughtering their people?

If you can’t think why Irish fans might not want to support the British army then you’re mad. Supporting the victims of war can be done through other charities. If you want to support them better to donate to those charities directly.

Any Catholic who joins the British Army or any branch of the Armed Forces needs to examine his or her values and conscience and probably needs to see a psychiatrist. Come to think of it, anyone who joins the British Army needs their head examined.
