I love my yz250 for 1 simple reason, every single day is fun, no matter what the track conditions are it’s just fun to ride a 2 stroke and that’s what it’s all about

Sometimes i just want to put down consistent lap times over and over and the 2 strokes can be frustrating when your laps are 3 seconds different hot and cold.

@@Dylans503 I'm a single dad with 3 kids so I don't have the money for a practice bike for me and 1 for my son and a race bike for each of us too. So 1 2-stroke each is all I can do. I don't think I could afford the maintenance let alone 2 or more rebuilds on 4-strokes every year. That's actually how I pay for the bikes, maintaining and rebuilding 4-strokes. You wouldn't believe how many riders don't know even change a plug nowadays, and apparently air filters are supposed to be ran with no oil! Lmao But I don't want my son on a 4 stroke yet, ya learn to ride better on a 2 stroke because ya don't have the engine braking, gotta keep corner speed up, ya don't have traction control and different maps, just a YZ250 that's reliable and fun af.

I have a 2017 YZ250X and I plan on keeping that bike until the frame disintegrates. It's STUPID amounts of fun to ride and very easy to wrench on, as with all smokers. It all comes down to personal preference. My first ever brand new bike was a '04 YZ250F. Beautiful machine, but in the end I was missing my smoker. As long as two strokes are available to purchase, they'll always be my #1 choice.

i had a 2009 yz450f and a 2010 yz250 2st. i had them both set up identical. same bars , grips , seats , tires , chain and sprockets , footpegs , etc. they felt almost identical when sitting on them. i could not ride for a month and the 450 was easier to get back adjusted to top riding speeds easier but i could ride my 250 for a few days and lay down laptimes that were almost identical. literally within a second of each other. i could actually turn faster times on woods loops on my 250 than i could my 450. i have just always felt more comfortable on a 2stroke in turns. i tend to like my back end to step out just a tad on corner exits. i even set my 450 up to get that same sensation. it took me almost a year to run less sag and gear it down just a tad and more high speed compression. i grew up riding 2strokes and it was difficult for me to transition to 4 strokes.

I'm the opposite, I ride 2 strokes better. Fits my riding style a lot more. I ride the local A class on a "250" 2 stroke (it's an Erick Gorr tuned YZ300) against 250fs and 450's and 2 stroke open if they have a 2 stroke only class. In practice and first moto I've got a n advantage against the 250f's when it's like chocolate cake but when the track gets baked and rough I don't get near the traction the 4 strokes do. And against a 450 it's only disadvantages but I don't ride a 4 stroke nearly as well so I'm sticking with 2 strokes. Last time I was on 4 stroke full time was riding the amateur nationals. I was around when Trey, Izzi, stroupe, and tickle among others were amateurs.. those couple years had some heavy hitters
