I Hate $15 Minimum Wage: Now I Am Firing My Workers: Pt 2

Is this infamous restaurant owner a greedy fool or a genius. We revisit this egomaniac minimum wage opponent on his personal crusade to kill the $15 dollar minimum wage in the U.S. Lenny Rosenberg tells reporter David Nazar he is firing even more workers to make a point.

@@joaquinjr2570 Couldnt disagree more. Capitalism is not machines taking over jobs. Capitalism is creating opportunities to earn and or buy. McDonalds operates to keep cost at a minimum and max orders. A cashier can take orders and ring up people faster than a kiosk. Plus a cashier can clean inbetween customers etc. Inc minimum wage made MCD realized that the upfront cost of the kiosk plus losing productivity and efficiency of a cashier was worth it now than a kiosk in a future with even higher minimum wages and inflation.

Now the majority of people in capitalist countries are not living dirt poor in their small farm like we used to 400 years ago. Capitalism is the best system we got. Before the poor had nothing to eat. Now many of the poor are fat. Before many born poor and died poor without any prospects for a better life. Now you live your all adult life poor only if you make bad life choices or if you are really unlucky and something bad happens to you. Wake up! You are blessed. And all because of capitalism.

The problem with the restaurant industry will resolve itself. Fast food restaurants will automate and the small businesses will be weeded out. Only the best will survive and will price out all but the upper middle class. The upscale restaurant will suffer but not nearly as much. More people will start cooking/eating at home again and will be better off for it. My advice to fast food restaurant workers is to learn a trade. Because while you will see 15 dollars an hour, it wont last long. The grocery store chains went through this in the 70s and 80s. Finally, if you're living in a large city and trying to earn a living in the fast food industry. Your wasting your time. Get out and look for new opportunities

Isn't this basic enonomics? When the wage goes up, inflation HAS to happen to keep things balanced. Ultimately the customers pay the employees, so yes, if you want a higher wage, you will see higher prices because at the end of the day, businesses need to make enough to stay open, or else decrease people's hours, they lay off a few people, and/or close down a few places if not entirely. Remember: they need to stay afloat. If you keep adding weight, you'll eventually sink the boat.

Yes, this is where the US fails. ( Aside from Healthcare XD) Min wage over the course of a century has not kept up with Inflation. Every other country increases its min wage by an amount to keep up with inflation. The US politicians do these wage jumps that drastically hurt us. If min wage had kept up with inflation it would be a lot more than 15$ almost 20$. But if min wage increases every year, over time, at an expected amount, then businesses can adjust for it. Used to a person could raise a family of 3 kids, and care for a wife on a simple job. You cannot do that anymore, min wage is 13k take home pay. You cannot raise a family, buy a house, and take care of your wife, and buy a car on 13k a year.

I was for the $15 Minimum Wage, but I'm not oblivious to the evidence; you guys were right. The effect of the increase in the minimum wage has meant there are; 1) Fewer services jobs; both as more services are automated, reduced, and wiped out entirely by closure. 2) Fewer manufacturing jobs; as these get sent overseas at higher rates. 3) A year-on-year decrease in the total salaries paid to employees as a whole. 4) Fewer opportunities for low-skilled workers to earn money. 5) More unemployment at the lowest level for the poorest and least educated people. 6) A year-on-year decrease in the number of restaurants and cafes; there is a high turnover in this industry but there is an actual decline for the first time since the 1920s. And one often underreported problem; 7) Fewer opportunities for people to start and scale their small businesses, as the cost of employing someone is too great. The evidence is in. The massive minimum wage hike has decimated this industry, and decimated the job opportunities. What's more, the instability caused by the ever-looming threat of more government price hikes has compounded the problem.

What part of the formula don't people understand, Entry level employee is statistically zero experience/ minimal skill and zero debt, minimum wage is appropriate and satisfactory as most are still living at home, usually when you start in the workforce you need someone to give you the opportunity to prove yourself and pay you, then as you gain skill and prove yourself dependable, trustworthy etc etc ( and God knows those qualities are not as common as you would like or might think) your wage rate may increase until your expand your horizons and employment future and move up, or on, even as an apprentice you are learning a skill and getting a portion of a tradesman's rate, and as time goes on you gain more skill more experience so your worth increases and your potential hourly rate, so if you dont get the start then you don't get to move up or on, pretty simple but if you choose not to move up or on then don't expect your rate to, pretty simple again

I found that it is nearly impossible to have an intelligent conversation about basic economic principals with people who don't understand supply and demand. If you raise overhead, whether it is fixed or variable, someone has to pay for it. When you raise wages the customers pay for it, the business pays for it, and the govt pays for it. When customers don't want to pay more for food and service, employees become unemployed and businesses move or close down.it is much more complex than that but people must understand that businesses can't print money to pay for increased wages. I can't feel sorry for people who stay in low paying jobs and don't educate themselves. Instead they expect to be paid more than their services are worth. Well, kiss your jobs goodbye.

A living wage is different than minimum wage. A living wage is slightly more than minimum wage, but not much. A person making a living wage generally has a few more skills than a person making minimum wage. A person who has lots of skills earns way more than either a person making a living wage or minimum wage.

It's so interesting that I have yet to see a STATE or COUNTY defined definition for "living wage". Theoretically, as everyone one and their situation is different, each person should have a unique "living wage" and thus each person's wage would be different. Come on, Dem's ... let's see you pass legislation to create REAL individualized "living wages". After all, that's what you're really after, right?

Then the owner says "Now, I'll need to let go about the half of a you so choose among you who can stay to make $15 and who has to be let go. But half of all of you have to go to keep the other half at the wonderful government rule of $15 per at entry level. Now choose!". Then the people who are now unemployed (thanks to the wonderful and fully thought out wage increase), will then be forced to do other things on their own like the folks at gonget.com.

People seem to forget that when a business doesn't make a profit, it'll make a loss. The employees don't risk a single penny; rather, they can get another job if the business closes, whilst they've been taking a salary from a losing business. A business owner can find himself a million dollars in the hole after a year, and even go bankrupt. That's why they take profits; the employee risks nothing when a restaurant goes under. The owners lose everything.

Maybe the workers need to learn a skill and get a better paying job. There was a story about a Walmart work that wasn't making $15 an hour after 15 years. Why is she still working there after 15 years. Learn a skill and go make more money not wait for a company to just give you more. When my coffee is made wrong or my food order is all wrong are they worth $15 an hour.I don't think so.
