Unbound cops are overall better in function, the way they work is a lot better than any NFS game after Blackbox came out, the spotting mechanic is great, what i wish they did were proper tactics like MW05 and that the limit of cops were higher, so you actually had a very good chase and that the cops would be used for something other than risk, make them a way to gain rep for example, or bounty again, that way for some events, money wouldn't be your only way in, nor the heat level, but also the amount of rep or bounty you've stacked up by taking the risk of engaging with the cops. Heat cops are harder, but that's because they are almost like GTA cops, they do not care, they simply want to take you down, tactics aren't exactly employed here either, it's just chaos, add that to not being able to destroy the cops or engage with them for long and it's obviously going to feel harder, because you are less powerful to handle them than in Unbound. So what do cops need to become right now in NFS? I say, keeping the spotting mechanic from Unbound works, bring back police tactics from MW05 and enhance them, while taking from MW05, take the way cop chases worked too by making a chase harder with the number of cops reaching 100 if the pursuit gets longer, give the player tools to help him, but not to instal in their car, but instead to use the enviroment again against the cops, racers know their streets better than cops afterall, make the arrests feel like proper penalties again, car strikes, inpounds. Cop chases became a core feature in NFS since MW05, time to make them vital to the franchise again. Unbound nailed the fun of the races, now to nail the fun of the chases.
Running from cops in heat felt intense and rewarding to escape. Unbound just feels like a big speed bump when your spotted, all the mechanics they chose to add "intensity" from cops are just lazy and extremely tedious that leave you pissed off after getting the chase overwith. I too miss the rhinos, way better than spawning 2 choppers directly in the path you are going. The day/night cycle was great for deciding whether or not you feel like dealing with cops during a session, the only drawback in heat was that day/night ended up splitting the 16 player lobby down the middle, and being spotted at night can kick you from and existing race queue.

I support this comment a lot. If heat was on Ps5 the same as unbound many would most likely pick heat. While I agree with you somewhat because I’ve gotten away from the cops in heat without having a “really” fast car, the cops in heat have a pretty easy method of getting you but it was the thrill of facing those odds that was the most fun. The point was you were never supposed to go to heat level 5 without having a “really” fast car. In unbound I didn’t feel really threatened at all. They compensate “intensity” by just spawning you with helicopters after you get away which isn’t very challenging; it’s almost entirely annoying. Oh yea, the first couple weeks of the story are rough, yet fun. then by the end it is just annoying. Stupid helicopters
dunno about Heat, but the amount of scripting on Unbound sometimes drive me nuts. They constantly spawns in front of you, they follow you even while escaping (often I'm "trapped" between 3 or more cars / helicopters that followed my direction despite supposedly they lost my trace), that last damn car chasing you at like 400Km/h+ just for making the reinforcement timer ends. Plus I'm noticing some cars are more fragile than others: I risk so much being hit (or bumping them) with my Exige, cause I take more damage than them, and I almost get one-shotted if charged by an Interceptor.. I don't like the general balance of the cop chasing.. As you finish one chasing, I'd like to have some peace in my gameplay, instead u can been spotted immediately after.. plus u reach too easily level 5 (after 3 races, sometimes).. There are Nights/Days session where I play like 1/2hr of racing/roaming and 1+ hr of cop chasing.. that's clearly too much PS I don't want to brag, but just for clarification: I'm like 1% of Dirt Rally 2 ranking, so I'm not a slow driver.. But it seems that NFS actually PUNISH fast driver (for example with the infamous slingshot mechanic)

Car durability makes sense. Obviously the Exige is going to be the weakest car in the game because well. Look at it compared to the Panamera. Bigger cars are able to take more damage. And as far as the cops spotting you fast. You can fix that issue in the Auxiliary upgrade and equip your car with the “Undercover Racer” option. It’s literally designed to make you “camouflage” as you drive past cops. But yeah, the cops randomly spawning in front of you is definitely annoying. I agree with you on that.

Heat police was harder to escape from, but easier to avoid contact with. In Unbound, they chase you a lot more, they harass you constantly but are easier to lose or to eliminate. In Heat, there was a lot more tension when being chased, they were hyper agressive and that made the chase epic. Also, you had to manage your health a lot more due to limited petrol station repairs, versus unlimited ones in Unbound. The probability of surviving a chase in Heat is a lot lower than in Unbound if you play the game like it's meant to, not just hiding on top of containers to evade the cops. I've been arrested many more times in Heat than Unbound, easily 10x more. I haven't managed to break the 2M Reps in a single night stint in Heat. So many rhinos coming after you that you're bound to get hit sooner or later no matter how good you are. In Unbound, the Swat pickups are a joke in comparison. Ghost know how to make cops behave like serial killers since Rivals. Criterion make nicer cops, the friendly type, take Hot Pursuit where they're essentially sitting ducks. Races are a different story, dead easy in Heat, harder in Unbound. Graphics are day and night, Unbound just looks incredible and runs so smooth at 60fps. I can’t judge it right away yet because I just started the game not to long ago. Though with unbound I was at a heat level 5 with the eclipse a class & Plymouth b class & was pretty hard literally. What I liked about heat is when your in a race & finished your literally driving still & doesn’t put you in a cutscene like unbound when you have cops.
The Unbound cops were mostly just an inconvenience. I think being able to get to a safe house to end the chase would have been a good change.
I miss the “drive around the map and look for a breakable to disable the cops thingy” it made it so that you had a fail safe in your back pocket when out running them wasn’t working. Now it’s jus out run em and make sharp turns in hopes you’ll loose em
Agreed, heat cops are more difficult, one time I was on the highway with my p1 gtr and then a corvette pushed me into the other lane to hit the spike strip.
I feel the opposite honestly, I feel like ever since the last patch for heat. The cops have been very random; most of the time they don’t even try to come after me and just end up immediately losing me. and sometimes they go all out ready to murder me. They also broke the red ring that appears around you during pursuits since you can go a few meters away from the cops and you’ll be out of their LOS, technically if you’re fast enough and turn a corner then they also lose you. Completely breaking the system put in place. I haven’t exactly figured out how they work since then, but it seems to depend on a car’s overall acceleration, but even then the Ai gets confused and doesn’t kick in until awhile later allowing me to escape heat 5 cops at 80mph lol. I feel like Unbound did better in terms of updating and polishing the pursuit system but they became less tactical and aggressive because of it; for example: I like how there’s a definable radius around the cops when they’re after you, making it more clear when you lose them. Also the cooldown being slower allowing more engagement and strategy. I think the system as it is, is better but they need to buff the units in terms of aggression and tactics.
@thecarspec_

Exactly, imo I prefer the system in Unbound more but prefer the aggressive behavior in Heat. Though what bugs me with Unbound cops is how they patrol after escaping/during Heat 5. It's really time-consuming and in pain in the butt trying to get to a destination since they're everywhere on the map. Is was like that in Heat too but not as excessive/annoying.
But the cops in Heat are so hard to beat that somehow the corvette can catch up to a Koenigsegg!
Cops in payback quietly watching💀
Dude this happens all the time to me no matter which game i play🤣
Can't really say anything about Unbound cause I don't have it... yet, but as for Heat, being chased by the cops at heat level 5 in a car that is level 290 or lower is a pain.
Big agree, the cops in Unbound are easier, but they are super super annoying and its not that im worried about them, im just sick of them appearing EVERYWHERE. There must be about 100,000 highway patrol cars in the force over the entire map. Either that or the entire precinct just happen to be where you are, always
This cool video mister black panthaa
as you said cops in unbound are a joke, more annoting than difficult, but i do have a good laugh passing by like a rocket and disabling them from the side haha. they both have their ups and downs, in heat it was easily escapable by doing jumps also.
Cops in Unbound in the early game are quite stressful especially in a class B and A car. But I have not been busted once, only been close to getting busted.
3:23 Look at the license plate, that yellow E46 is from Palm city lol
Your the reason why I came back to nfs heat
Not to mention the roadblocks are very very random they are often placed randomly somewhere where you weren't going
I still love need for speed mw and nfs mw 2012 cops. they were easy to escape but once they got on you they hit really hard
I like these cops better than heat, it feels a lot more fair, not to mention you dont have a limit on repairs and instead you have a cool down, once you understand how they work they're rather easy, and thats fine, I think thats the point, I regularly play on intense and they did give me a hard time at first at heat level 5, but as i got better cars and understood how they function and each unit's weakness it got much easier. In heat it was very frustrating, no matter what I did in police chases I couldn't lose the cops, and I couldn't get too aggressive with them either, the game would punish me very hard for sacrificing my own health to take cops out. What it took to lose them was often using ramps that jump over lakes/rivers.

defeats the whole risk/reward system though. in unbound heat 5 is the most risk you can take, in Heat you were out of repairs at some point. And the cops were placed randomly around the map in heat. Unlike unbound where they spawn on the street you`re on. makes it very annoying to drive places. not because they will actually take you out, just because they delay what you actually wanted to do. Throughout my playthrough (in medium difficulty, don`t know if that affects cop AI), I was busted exactly 1 time, and it was because I had a crash and got screwed over by the respawn. The cops are stressful at first, but once you get an A+ car, they become vary manageable even at level 5, and from S onwards they`re just an inconvenience and a time sink, more than anything else...

I actually agree, the NFS Heat cops were actually something I realy enjoyed and appreciated. After all the older NFS games and seeing how bad the Cops were on NFS 2015, even tho I didnt enjoy Heat that much, I realy loved the Cops in Heat!
I did like the ferocitiy from the cops of Palm City. Offroading against them is not always good. But chases in streets only, I still think PD from Rockport (2005) is the vicious.
I feel like NFS unbound is to NFS Heat like how NFS Carbon is to NFS Most Wanted
I honestly find the interceptors the most frustrating cops I've ever dealt with. They rubber band perfectly based on your speed, you would have a full boost nitrous and attempt to take down that cop but you can't close the distance. I had one that sat about 5 feet in front of my car on a hair of health for a solid 3 minutes as I was driving on a highway...
he said peace at the end and I thought he said peas, right after the video ended an ad played that advertised peas
If you rear end police in unbound, you take no damage. Idk how I found this out but it is really fun wiping out all units in Lakeshore in one session
Heat's main problem is its hit detection. Even though you T-Bone a cop at high speed, you still take damage and sometimes the cop is unscathed.
"if i wanted to go against babies i would play fortnite" best sentence ive heard
The drifting in heat☹️
the only time they almost caught me was cuz I ran straight into a freaking tree that I didn't know was unbreakable lol
I remember having to build a car fast enough to win races at night but good enough off road to give me an advantage against police while playing heat
The Unbound cops were way easier to escape but they would spawn near you any time making it impossible to do anything
If the cars didn't take as much damage from impacts, Heat would have been similar to unbound with annoying cops
I loved that building reps is a goal for you in Heat, even you can challenge yourself. "I will make 10 million reps this night" and that is a fun mode in itself. Sad, you cannot do anything like this in Unbound. If you are done with the story then you get online and there's no reason to play with cops, we do not have cops in online so it is not good.
I can't figure out how to get the gas stations to appear on my mal so I can pin them for a rout when I'm being chased. Lucky, heat 5 I'm mostly chased by mostly the heavy units so offroad and jumps don't help at all
I purchased heat on steam for almost 10 dollars in winter sale
I know the games are different but like you said, there are things in Heat and Unbound that’s great. We will never have everything in any one game to suit everyone. I was skeptical about the cartoony effect but I like it now. I would rather not play a new release game that felt like the previous release. I think they got it right on this release. On need for speed heat, all you had to do was go to stadium and made that big jump out and you loose the cops and a garage was right around the corner. I prefer the unlimited timed gas station versus 3 gas station from Heat plus the fast fix upgrade
For me, I enjoyed NFS Most Wanted 2012 cop chases a lot!
Need For Speed Heat became Need For Speed: White Nissan Dwarf Star at the end there
While the cops in Unbound are pretty aggressive, still nothing compared to the OG Most Wanted where they would run moves like rolling blocks. They at least try to pit you in Unbound. This game would have been a lot more fun if they had the pursuit breaks like they did in Most Wanted, where you could use certain environments to take out the cops.
You only had to take jumps to lose the cops in heat lol
I haven’t played nfs unbound but if the cops in the story are more inexperienced or that illegal racing in Lakeshore city weren’t frequent then it kinda makes sense why they are more easy whereas the cops in Palm City are more experienced in dealing with the street racers hence the aggressiveness of them. I think its kinda neat if the difficulty of the cops reflects to the story
Now imagine if they brought back impounding ur car. Perfection
It’s a battle… with rubber bend AI lol.
This was the main reason why I didnt even finished the story on Heat, the cops were TOO DAMN AGRESSIVE and it wasnt fun anymore.
I prefer HEAT because it gives you the choice to do non heat races/legal races. Plus you can actually Drift in HEAT, granted you're using the Drag Tire method. If HEAT would have had Drag Races & sprinkled in a few different racing series (like sprint, circuit, drift & drag) with a points system & class restrictions, to me it would have been damn near perfect.
I’ve been playing unbound for about 2 weeks and am yet to be busted. On Heat, from personal experience, I was busted numerous times throughout my playthrough and a bunch of times in post game.
Heat looks great on PC at 4k and 60fps tbf shame they couldnt do a patch for ps5 for it
The Heat nighttime experience - high heat, a new volatile part or two in the back, not many chances to repair, the glow of the neon giving way to red and blue flashers, and just you and your car against the whole police force and you know if you try to fight, you'll lose, so you just have to run - that was some of the most intense gaming experiences I've ever had. But then again, when you learn the police's kryptonite is going over jumps, it spoiled it a bit. Also, once you had max level and all the best parts, there wasn't any very good reason to actually play at night. By contrast, my take is that Unbound feels more 'gamified', with arbitrary restrictions that shouldn't exist (heat clears after night, not after day...and changing cars doesn't reduce heat...????) and a rock-paper-scissors selection of police units, that all have easily understood weaknesses and vulnerabilities. In many cases they can be taken out in one good hit with minimal damage to you, lured into crashes or hidden from pretty easily, so the threat to the player is not about individual police units but about the overall system... I certainly wouldn't say they are harder, but I would agree they are more annoying. As long as you keep moving and passing petrol stations you're still in the fight; I've only been busted in unbound once and that was way more my shitty car/my shitty driving than what they were doing. They are fairer to the player, but as a result of that are more robotic and systematic, and feel more like a game system than actual characters. Heat's cops were incredibly unfair (300mph off road corvettes ramming you with their infinite torque as you max your car out, etc), which made chases tenser and escaping from them way more satisfying. But I like that in Unbound there's no practical difference between day and night, it's just a different vibe. All that said, the video wasn't a great comparison. It is comparatively easy to lose cops in Lakeshore city itself, the tight corners, z-axis changes and small blocks are pretty different from Palm City's larger blocks and longer, flatter sightlines, but a cop chase out on the west of the map where there are fewer routes or opportunities to break line-of-sight, that can feel pretty different, for Unbound we are always restricted by the need to both return to the meetups and then escape from the finish line of the very limited selection of races, rather than just choose whatever race we want that lets us keep away from the fuzz. The fact that if you have heat, they WILL spawn cops into the race every time and have them wreck your racing line if they feel like it, that's not helpful either, whereas Cops in races in heat rarely caused an issue. Personally I find escaping heat 4+ in a B class car outside the city pretty challenging, and therefore often choose to avoid B class so I have a decent chance to escape afterwards despite the fact I too really enjoy low-level races.
I had a session of unbound where I was trapped in a barn with two helicopters doing ballet on top of me waiting for me to escape. I stayed in there for 15 minutes. Moments later, I get into a big chase, the interceptor becomes the luckiest cop alive, PITs me into two pipes in a v formation. The game glitches, I get stuck in the pipes, and I lose 25,000. (Don't laugh. I just started the game) As a veteran, I've never been upset with police pursuits and music in these games, but unbound made me furious at the cops and the music
