SAME!! I literally remember saving the time and date on my calendar, and then watching it at 6:30 pm when I was in 4th grade 😭😭 like the memory is so vivid, this movie was my CHILDHOOD

it's so funny that you said maia mitchell (mack) looks like bailee madison (bridge to terebithia) because *THE FOSTERS SPOILERS* they actually play biological sisters in the fosters series! also the tanner + lela queerness energy is amped tf up in the sequel and tanner is so good in the 2nd movie you're gonna love it

Tanner was easily the best part of the 2nd movie! The scene with him and the inflatable man brought me so much joy.

i remember this movie being such a fever dream because i would tell everyone about it after i first watched it at 13 and nobody knew what i was talking about. I had totally forgotten the name of the movie and I had NO clue what Ross Lynch's name was at the time. For like 3 years I was convinced I had made the entire thing up.

That's what I thought of the movie "Doogal." Saw it once when I was like three years old (cause we borrowed it from Blockbuster) and it was so weird. And since no one talks about it, I thought it was something I imagined. Then I learned it was a real movie.

Apparently my wife had watched it when she was little (she’s white so cultural difference as i only watched spanish movies or whatever came on late at night like Teen Beach), and the same thing happened to her. No other kid had watched it and when she told me about it in middle school i had no clue what she was talking about. All these years both of us had watched a movie nobody else did and thought we imagined it… edit; word oops

Teen Beach Movie is one of my unironic favorite Disney Channel Originals… like the songs go crazy for no reason 😂

I'm a lifelong DCOM supporter. There is about a decade where DCOMs ruled the world...or at least the world of kids that watched Disney Channel. There are some true gems.

IKR I was always uncomfortable watching those old classic Disney movies, and prefer movies like Teen Beach Movie and Princess Protection program because the "princesses" and girly girl characters are still seen as tough and strong, and not topless bimbo mermaids falling in love with a dumb hunk prince twice their age

This is actually one of my favorite movies, just because it's so cheesy and campy. I literally love how bad it is, it makes me happy (so bad its good)

Mack used to make me very upset when it first showed on Disney bc she was so MEAN. Nothing and no one made her happy, it stressed me so much man😭 Edit: Tanner is the best!! So true!!! Plus the Tanner + Brady and Mack + Layla is so real

Tbh I watched this as an adult for the first time and I hated Tanner LOL o_0 I mean, when he was shocked that a girl did better than him surfing that's what made me hate him. I remember when it came out on Disney channel (I was 10 or 11) and I didn't watch it for some reason, I feel bad now because now this is one of my favorite Disney movies (I'm not much of a Disney fan in general)

3:50 funnily enough, there was a special on “JESSIE” where in which Debby Ryan plays Maia Mitchell’s stunt double!

5:45 I believe they actually had them surfing. I remember on Disney Channel when it came out, they had some promo videos with Maia and Ross talking about surfing. I’m pretty sure Maia had experience surfing beforehand and Ross had to learn.

This was my favorite Disney movie as a kid I can't believe it was 2013 and it still feels like yesterday I was yelling at my mom to hurry with the popcorn as I was watching it premiere I feel so old now the old care free days of young me 😭✋🏽

I love how you said Tanner is definetly not into girls bcs its so freaking accurate because the actual actor who played him Garrett Clayton actually came out as gay in 2018 and is also married and has a husband who he was dating since 2011

I remember it being pretty loved at the time. That was around the time people weren't watching TV as much but talk went around and it got people to watch it and like it. Second movie killed the momentum tho cause it sucks and then Descendants came out so people were more into that.

This movie is a classic childhood movie for me and always will be but my surprise when I found out the movie they were transported into was based off of west side story which is one of my favorite musicals honestly 10/10 Disney channel movie

i really love this movie i watched it with my family when it came out (including my late mother) and we all loved it (my mom and dad grew up in the 60s and my mother loved 60s beach movies) it's cheesy but the cheesiness makes it great' and "how can you like this silliness" cause i know how to have fun maya's character *squints*

Love this movie so much but... I'd like to forget that the sequel exists

Unpopular opinion: i actually loved the sequel…well, aside from the ending 💀

I adored this commentary so much! Teen Beach is such a silly and happy movie, it’s my favorite ever and you had such a good energy! Some people just mocked it but it’s nice seeing you enjoy the silliness of it!! The sequel it’s good but not as good, but I’m very excited to see what you think of it!!

Fun fact the actress in bridge to terabithia that u referred to mac actually played her sister in a tv show called The fosters.

You should watch some of the Frankie & Annette beach movies from the ‘60s that are the underlying source for this one: Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, etc. They’re campy fun.

also this movie proves my theory (well fact) that cheesy things are superior to noncheesy things.

This movie was so fun! Wild that it’s already a decade old. Yesss Garrett Clayton as Tanner was the highlight of the movie for me too! I loved all of the campiness and the references to other musicals. Great commentary!

I've only seen this movie twice but I listen to some of the songs all the time, love it. This movie is TOTAL corn but good corn lol. I've yet to see the Sequel though. Tanner cracks me up because there's nothing going on between those ears lol. And yes you'd kill it in a musical! 🎶✨ Also yes, Tanner is gay irl. He played a gay porn star in a movie named King Cobra about a year after the second movie. He's been in quite a few other things but I haven't seen them.

All my friends in like 4th grade and I learned a bunch of the choreography (poorly) from this movie, especially from the cruising for a bruising song. I also think I was gay for the girl with the beehive.

ohmygod i LOVE this movie so much its one of my fave dcoms actually i think it works so well because its aware that its cheesy so it just leans so completely into it and its like campy and fun, plus the songs all FUCK so hard theyre so good 😭😭 i didnt really like the sequel as much it was kinda trash but maybe thats just because when i watched it i was a tbm1 stan so i was disappointed it wasnt the same vibe 💀 also separately both of the wet side story leads (tanner and leila) are queer which i love, they kinda had chemistry with all of the leads tho crazy

The Dont Stop the Music is one of the best dance choreography in disney movie. and Ross Lynch! Cmon he’s the man. 😂

This movie is definitely in my top 3 favorite DCOMs, even though I had outgrown Disney when it came out! I even had a zipper pull of the surfboard on my backpack all throughout high school lmao.

I was so young and somehow my brain decided to make a choice on wanting Lela and Mack (McKenzie) to be together 😭
