Ouch! That’s a tough lost! Especially torches! I hate when they get that brown jelly disease. I usually dip my corals and just leave them be for a couple of day to a week since their already stressed out from the delivery But if it’s a must to remove them hard to glue frag plugs I’ll use a bone cutter and cut as much frag plugs as I can.

Yeah it’s a big time bummer! Yeah man I like getting rid of the plugs personably. I am thinking of starting to add them to the qt tank without dipping for a few days then dip after they settle.

I personally think it’s better to dip first and get rid of all the hitch hikers before putting it in your QT. With all my corals I get from WWC I usually give them a good solid dip before I add it to my QT. But good luck! 🍀

Sorry to hear man, when I receive corals I honestly just temp and water acclimate them within 30 minutes max. Drop them in my frag tank. With lights out for 24 hr next day give them little light and them say after I would coral dip. Works for me since whenever I add to the QT tank no corals in there. I have higher survival rate than when I order online and stress them out day That’s just my crazy method.

Thanks dude, it stinks. You do temp acclimate then water acclimate? Or both at the same time?

For euphyllia, I think that removing the plugs is a bit futile. Any pests that are living in the plug will most certainly be living on the coral's skeleton as well. I have seen sps keepers remove the plugs as encrusting sps grow quickly and recover from fragging well, but for the lps, I would just leave them on. A dip and quarantine is sufficient.

IMO Euphyllia are sensitive with torches being the most touchy. Since you have a quarantine tank why don't you temp acclimate then place them in, wait about 1 or 2 weeks. Then dip and remove plugs before you add to DT. I've heard Coral dips are harsh for Euphyllia especially torches. I also understand that you are trying your best to prevent pests. Why don't you have 2 quarantine tanks? One for instances like this so you can throw in corals immediately after shipping. Then a secondary where you would remove them from the first one after recovery, dip them, remove plugs, then further monitor. I think this would satisfy your OCD on pests and allow for complete recovery/quarantine. Honestly the point of having a quarantine is to put corals in it immediately then treating for pests later.

I leave the coral on the original plug. I may scrub it with a toothbrush after dipping it to get any possible eggs off just depending on the coral that it is. You’re not going to be able to take every plug off. Especially with encrusting coral

You have your quarantine tank so you can keep pests out of your display without stressing corals. Dealing with any kind of pest is easy in that small QT tank, so don't try to clean or dip the freshly shipped and stressed corals. You don't need to because you have QT and can deal with problems easily. If any flatworms came with your euphyllia, it's super easy to kill them in the QT tank.

Back in my saltwater days, I never had many issues with the man made coral plugs. They are very dense and not much gets in them. I would dip and clean then well then just watch them in the QT tank. Saltwater has sooooo much life it’s next to impossible to get 100% off. Now if they are glued to a piece of rock, yeah I would remove them. I do understand your OCD though! Maybe dip, QT, then dip clean again before they go into the display. My experience has told me being to clean in this hobby leads to more problems. Look forward to your next video!

Your just overdoing the process when you have a qt tank to keep parasites out of your main display. I could tell from the start of the video when I saw the torch that it was not happy and not looking good because it was in and out of 2 or 3 dips and out of water way to long

@@inventoryking I know that hitchhikers can still remain on the plug left on the coral. I do this only cuz I’ve had a few cases were the skeletal structure of the coral was weak and filled with holes and when I cut the plug off the colony broke apart and some even died from it.

Dude a dip is just enough. Don’t waste your time and money trying to remove a plug. There’s more parasites in all the nooks and crannies of the skeletal structure of euphyllia. Honestly that lobo would probably have more parasites on its skeletal then a frag plug that looks brand new.

@@findingmyownway4999 Thing is, it's super fucking easy to kill euphyllia. Saving declining corals like acro's, montiporas, zoas etc is easy, but a declining head of expensive euphyllia, nope, very difficult to save with intention. So saying you keep more difficult corals alive? Well, what makes them more difficult? What is a difficult coral? Corals you can provide with first aid, like gluing over STN or giving amino acid baths to stop recession and such are easier for those reasons. Determining coral difficulty based only on their tolerance of parameter swings is rubbish.
