Training at Lance's school in the winter of 2015 was one of the most challenging experiences of my life, despite how nice, generous and caring (and fun/funny!) Lance was. I distinctly remember, one day in the middle of training, looking up at the clock to see how much time we had left in practice. And that's when I realized something "terrible". I realized that I never do that when I rehearse in theatre, or rehearse when working on a stand-up comedy set (at the time, my main interests had been acting, stand-up comedy, and I had been convinced that pro wrestling was the thing for me). It was a terrible realization because it meant that I didn't really love pro wrestling like I thought I did. It meant I had more of a vague interest in it rather than an all-out passion. Because, as long as I'm fed and hydrated, I could rehearse a play or a monologue almost all day, since I truly love those passions. And as I also looked around at my fellow students, I saw that some of them lived and breathed this thing we were doing (shout-out to Gisele Shaw!). I wasn't. So not only was I not a natural athlete, but I didn't even have an obsession with the sport/art form to compensate. My heart sank as I realized that I could either quit in the middle of training (which I didn't want to do) or that I could do the best I could for the remaining weeks, but ultimately I now knew that I'd made a mistake coming here. 8 years later and I can now say that, while I still sometimes struggle to pay the bills and I work day gigs to pay them, my main focus now is on something that I truly love, that I'm truly passionate about. Training at Storm Wrestling Academy taught me several things, and one of them is that: in my opinion, if you don't "feel it", if you're not willing to go the extra mile, give it your all, then something like pro wrestling is probably not for you. And I learned it the hard way, but I'm so very thankful that I had the humility to cut my losses and follow a path that was truly right for me. Thanks CVV for this interview, so nice to see/hear Lance again! He was truly an excellent teacher 🙏

This is one of my favourites so far, Chris! Youre in top form and so is Lance. I enjoy the parts about wrestling training because I also made the some of the same decisions and sacrifices when it came to wrestling training, I always dreamed of continuing my training in Calgary at Lances School - but before that, I went to Squared Circle in Toronto in ...2002 and Ron Hutchinson & Fuego were running the classes...but I first trained at HBKS's Academy in San Antonio in 2000 after choosing HBK over The Hart Brothers camp in Canada... but after Texas and graduating Shawns Academy I decided to come back to Canada...Lance seemed like the next logical best step to top my training off - but I never made it out to Calgary...in time! I was however also fortunate enough to get in the ring with Shane Douglas one afternoon too, another solid as f person as well as a great Pro Wrestling mind & performer, in my books. Great Interview, Lance Storm is a true pro! I didnt want this to be over, I hope there is more soon!

What Lance fails to mention, as does nearly every other person who talks about that segment on Jim's podcast, is that Jim specifically prefaced it by saying that he was talking about the subject from the perspective of a (former) promoter. That was the entire point of that segment: A star who is still fairly "hot" with the audience, leaving for private reasons before their run is over or the wave of buzz and popularity has broken or flattened out - and what that means to the business of a promoter who built that star up. From an old-school promoter's perspective, he had a point. He was not talking about the situation in general, because CLEARLY it had a lot more aspects to consider to it from other perspectives. But that was not what he was talking about. Context is important. Well, not on Twitter or in the IWC where nobody understands contexts or timelinesand everything is just about quote-mining for tribalist verbal warfare - but in real life it is!

This is an epic meeting between two esteemed / respectable Canadians. Jack Tunney: I didn't knew that the WWF president was actually from Canada. WCW/NWA (nWo: Ted Turner; Eric Bischoff) vs. WWF/WWE (Vince McMahon Sr./Jr.) vs. ECW (Eastern Championship Wrestling: Paul Heyman, Tod Gordon; Tri State Alliance: Joel Goodhart) = ahhhh... the good ol' Monday Night WARS, back in the 1990's, man. Stampede Wrestling (the famous Hart Family camp; the (Stu) Hart dungeon), RIP. ROH too (Gabe Sapolsky; Cary Silkin; Rob Feinstein (RF Video), not Rob Black (XPW) ) Chris Jericho is a legend: he is just like the Energizer Bunny = Jericho still keeps on going and going. Don Callis (the Jackyl in the WWE; Cyrus the Virus, in ECW) as the Invisible Hand, is such a fun character: a shady, slimy, carny POS, Don King-like snake oil salesman. TNN: Spike TV (ECW "Hardcore TV", TNA Impact Wrestling & the WWE); now, the Paramount TV. he was put in a stable, in the WWF, as the Un-Americans (Lance Storm and Christian (Cage). it reminds me of a classic Andy Kaufman promo vs. Memphis, TN people & his opponent, Jerry "The King" Lawler ("I'm from Hollywood." "Lawler, you are from Memphis, TN. Have you people, heard of a thing called Soap ?!?")

I love me some lance storm, ever since I was watching early 2000s he was always a favorite. I would disagree with what has caused the recent explosion in wrestling interest. While aew is def a part of it, something has happened the past 2 years that has REALLY put wrestling on a much higher arc.i think it's a combination of aew, the bloodline, Cody and even Vince "stepping down" and wwe has been a such more improved company since that happened. A combination of all of those has caused interest to really increase recently.

That's really what all oldschool guys are saying with this new generation, the care more about their big spots rather than wrestling psychology and telling a story. They have been saying it for a long time but young guys still don't get it.

Interviewers should be there to put sensible questions then let the guest run with it and thats what we get with CVV. Also gotta say I totally agree with Storm on star ratings. My favorite wrestler other than bray and Steven Regal. Love this man. Also. As someone who cannot stand Cornette, lance's stance on him makes a lot of sense and its a way of viewing him i havent considered. Still cant stand him, but it opened my mind a bit

Lance is fucken awesome. His take on "star ratings" is probably the best, most rational I've heard in ages.

You have to respect the wrestlers that have matches with Yoshihiko, the blow up doll, the athleticism you need to have is outstanding, Yoshihiko rules btw! 😀

There's a possible typo in the video description, Chris. I believe it should read "He joins Chris Van Vliet from his home in Calgary... Alberta, Canada", because the pause is absolutely essential when saying where Lance is from.

Storm is still young by today's wrestling standards but it always makes me feel good when seeing a retired wrestler who still has it together physically and mentally sharp A great example of living one's best life after wrestling

I filmed a few wrestling shows where I am and worked with a guy who went to the Storm Wrestling Academy in 2016. He is a cool guy and was nice to chat with about Lance sometimes.

Woah just now learning Lance is actually from Sarnia. I live in Michigan an hour from Port Huron and you can throw a rock from there and hit Sarnia. Lots of chemical plants I don’t think I’d wanna swim in the water

I was fortunate enough to watch his run as a Impact Player and then go and dominate WCW. WWE definitely dropped the ball with him, really one of the best that has ever done it.
