I Got Robbed in Canada | My Motorcycle Gear is Gone! - EP. 168

This is definitely the most dramatic motovlog I've ever realised because for the very first time on my trip around the world, I got robbed. During my hairdresser's appointment in Moncton, New Brunswick, Chillie got stripped of our camping gear, spare tools, and parts. But this experience only made us stronger. Are we there yet? Not yet!

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

as a Canadian who does many adventure rides and follows you, i am so ashamed that that this happened in my country. i will send a donations to Franek as I am a bit late seeing this post. One thought, when I am travelling and park my bike I am very careful that I can see it from wherever I am inside. I have been robbed (mugged) and it is a soul-destroying moment. Much love from the rest of us in Canada.

I'm so choked that this has happened! As a Canadian I'm embarrassed, but the reality is we have the same opioid and meth crisis that many western countries do, so these petty people do petty crimes commonly. One thing I know for sure, Canadians will rally to help you. What is the best way to inject some money into your budget? I'm challenging all Canadians, and in fact all your followers, to kick in some assistance to get your gear replaced. Just let us know the easiest way to do that. Best of luck going forward, Kinga.

With the security video this guy will very likely be known to local police. The down side is that gear is likely sold fast for very little, so the guy may be charged and convicted but getting anything back is, in my experience, unlikely. And getting reimbursement from the guy also very unlikely. Watch out in poorer neighborhoods especially but a loaded bike anywhere in our towns is a target, partly due to the massive drug induced thievery problem everywhere now. So happy to have you touring Canada's east. Such a downer for us that you have been disrespected here considering all dodgy places you have been. Your hair looks terrific.

Feel bad for you, I’m from Chicago and I know you were just here not long ago, I would have been more afraid of getting robbed here than in Canada. You are tough and spunky, and your hair looks good. You’ll be ok, that stuff can be replaced.

Being robbed is one of the worst thing that can happen when you are on the road. As motorcyclist we are always afraid of theft in poor or third world countries, but they are more safe than developed ones. Hope everything goes well and you continue to inspire.

🇨🇦 I realize this event took place over 3 months ago but I am profoundly sorry this happened to you while in my country. After all the world traveling you have done on Chilli, through some pretty sketchy locations at times, to have this happen in "friendly" Canada is very disappointing and an embarrassment. I suspect the theft was motivated by addiction needs; such issues are prevalent in Canada. As I think about it I realize the impact is more than just the loss of equipment which can be replaced, but the loss of items that are attached to important memories which are triggered each time you use the item. That tent was the tent you slept in while wild African elephants wandered about right outside! Etc etc. I put myself in your shoes and I know that the term livid would not come close to describing how I would be feeling. Do you have an account we can donate too? I saw no reference to one on your website. Again, my sincere apologies.

Sorry to hear this but surprised because of your wide travels this is the first time you’ve run into this. I hope you find replacements. I don’t ever park my cycle where I can’t visually see it (around people) and I know it’s a pain in the ass when you’re by yourself. Glad you’re ok though and your bike didn’t go with the rest. Hope you can get setup and put this behind you. There are still good people in the world that would be happy to meet you.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Back in 1987 I bought a new BMW K75s and traveled up to Canada to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Once I got to the BMW dealer in Moncton they warned me about motorcycle thefts there so I guess they had issues even back then. (I was also warned about St. John, NB too) It was strange to have to put my "street wise" hat on after all the nice and welcoming Canadian people I had met throughout my trip.

Our larger cities are becoming ganglands...lack of police resources and judges who let the offenders out within hours of being caught...they know that they face little or no jail time if they even bother to go to court. We are having a crime crisis here in Canada and our leaders solution....to go after the most monitored, most law-abiding segment of the population and they to say that us having firearms is the problem.

Sorry about your lose. We had a truck, trailr, snowmobiles and personal effects stolen in Qebeec, CA. Canada has a big problem with auto theft. The police do nothing about it, but write a report. Afterwards, we spoke with many people with the same problems. Good luck.

What a terrible thing to have happen!😢 I had a similar experience while camping. I left my site for a bit of a walk and came back to find someone going through my belongings. I walked up and asked what they were doing and the guy tried to act as if it was his camp gear and I was the intruder. Needless to say I ran him off and alerted the park rangers. Never saw him again but didn’t feel comfortable there that night. I just can’t believe the nerve and carelessness of some people. They don’t care how their actions affect others as long as they get what they want. I’m very sorry you had to endure this situation. Much love and respect. Safe travels ❤

I’m so sorry that this happened to you because it probably spoiled what could have otherwise been a great visit. People at Aadrian’s Cycle are fantastic (they are my motorcycle mechanics), and on your way to the hairdresser if you would have slightly turned a bit more to the left, you would have caught my house. So sorry I missed you - I would have shown you around town.
