Thank you this was so helpful! I want to be a music major because I feel like I would regret it later if I didn’t. But I’m also scared of not making it, and everyone keeps telling me how unrealistic it is. You just helped me a lot ❤️

One comment for anyone wanting to pursue a music degree: Music theory is the same everywhere. Therefore, it makes sense to obtain that part of the puzzle wherever it makes the most financial sense- locally, online, self-taught, etc. In the end, it doesn't matter how you came to the knowledge, only that you have it.

I'm currently studying music right now, so i guess i can answer this lol Most music degrees afaik have a mostly classical focus, but include opportunities to participate in Jazz ensembles and other things of the sort. In my school there isn't much for blues or R&B, and the only pop material is actually an acapella club. If studying classical music sounds boring I promise it's much more interesting than it sounds at first, and the knowledge you gain from it can absolutely be applied in all areas of music.

A degree in Music “Performance” with no specified genre usually refers to classical music. Generally jazz degrees are referred to as “Jazz Performance” or “Jazz Studies”. Also, the way she describes her experience in University and the music careers of her friends (playing in professional orchestras, film scores etc.) also leads me to believe she is a classical musician. Hope this helps
