If they did have to save them they would have to do it carefully and calmly. If the Arapaima were in an agitated fearful state brash loud movements would only set them off again causing another knockout or potentially dead victim. Have you seen what Arapaima can do to people? They are not aweful horrible aggressive fish, they are like every other predatory fish out there. However when they get cornered by predators i.e us, or trapped in a net they react in the only way they know how. By jumping at high speed velocities. Them simple hitting into a person could either: 1. Knock them out as shown here but legitimately. Or 2. Injuring an important organ in the body and causing their untimely death. Imagine being hit by a solid thick concrete block, that's what it feels like to be hit by a medium to full grown Arapaima.

Arapaima’s are extremely large and powerful fish known for their jumping capabilities and thick hard skulls that have been known to break human bones by ramming at 250 lbs on impact. So yeah this guy very well could’ve actually been knocked out and played it off like he wasn’t.
