    I spank people with my Slash Ultimate all the time with the stock radio. If you have a stupid fast servo like a Savox 1258tg servo it makes the radio not feel slow. I did good with my Sledge running the stock TQi radio in the etruggy class and as I was walking off the stand one of the racers said to me “Dude I gotta know! What is your secret?” I basically told him when you’ve been running these radios for 10 years you just get used to it. They have the same reaction time as a Spektrum radio.

    I actually like the tqi radio. It fits my big gorilla hand perfectly, unlike my Spektrum radios. With the tqi Bluetooth module and a fast servo it works just as well as my Spektrum's.

    There is a guy that used to race at my local track That drove a pretty much stock Slash 4x4 With proline hole shots on all 4 corners, stock radio, and different weight shock oil in the stock shocks. He schooled everybody. It was almost comical to watch How upset all of the other racers got.

    The Slash Ultimate is a very capable truck. It does better on the tight technical layouts than the higher speed ones. I have very little done to mine. Castle Sidewinder SCT combo, Savox servo, 50k in the center diff with the black sway bars and vent holes on the body cut out like a nitro slash. Rest of it is stock. Just run the right tires for the track conditions and you can be a contender with it.

    I think his drive of your 4WD Slash demonstrates you can do well with a car that lacks a little power but drives well. I don't know how many higher end trucks were in that class, but he must of beat quite a few. and, if I saw it correctly he was running stock Traxxas tires. He drove extremely consistently. There are a lot of good used 4WD Slashes out there for sale and people can go and race and have fun racing.

    This has to be done again but with upgraded electronics. Patrick Rossiter showed the 2wd Slash with the lcg chassis can be very competitive at both the JCONCEPTS race back in the summer and just recently at Masters of Dirt last month.

    A good driver will largely do well regardless of the car. I started racing at club level a few years ago and remember one of the guys I started with, was wondering why he was so slow compared to others. One of the guys who had been racing for years (we’re talking National and International winner) offered to swap cars. The other guy literally over took him multiple times. Handed the controller back and said “Nopes, nothing wrong with your car mate. You just need to practise” He and the other older experienced races then proceeded to teach us that spending more money on say a faster motor etc doesn’t mean we will be faster, just means we will cause more damage when we crash - and being so new, we will crash, a lot. Outside of the nuances of set-up (so shock oil, tyres etc) their main advice has always been to practise. Just keep driving whenever you can and become consistent. I’ve finally started seeing my lap times drop by about 1.4 seconds which for me is amazing 😂😂😂

    I race a 2013 Slash Ultimate myself and I’ve actually won a few races with it. I have very little done to it besides cutting out vent holes on the body like a nitro slash, center diff with 45k in it, tires for the track, and a Savox 1258tg servo and a castle sidewinder 4 3800 combo with the stock non TSM TQi radio. I actually drive more precise lines with that than I do with any of my other cars.

    The Slash Ultimate can actually be pretty competitive with the suspension and tires sorted (perhaps a center diff mod might help too). I remember Jang from Ultimate RC putting an lcg chassis from the 1/10 rally onto the slash 4x4 when it debuted. He noted a remarkable improvement in how the truck performed, I believe he even said that it's performance was on par with the losi scte (which was the 1.0 at the time).

  • @VestedUTuber

    @VestedUTuber

    6 ай бұрын

    Personal experience, I think claiming that the LCG Slash Ultimate was on-par with the TEN-SCTE is a _little_ bit of a stretch, but it's close enough that even on clay you can make the Slash 4x4 competitive with the TEN-SCTE. Still, it's surface dependent at that point, higher traction widens the gap.

    Ok, one other thing I want to say... of the racing kits for 1/10th scale SCTs, and I know this is going to piss off a LOT of Tekno fans... the ET410.3 is the least optimized. It's really more of a high-performance basher that can race. The thing is, Tekno cars are built significantly heavier than other racing brands and their suspension geometry is set up to handle rough surfaces. Quite a rarity among racing vehicles and it really helps with durability, but the result is that Tekno's cars generally do best on rough, blown out tracks with low traction, and struggle on smoother, higher-bite surfaces.

    So, one thing I'll say is this - people overrate the gap between entry level and top-end platforms _on the right surface._ On carpet, hypothetically speaking since no one runs 4WD SCTs on carpet, a Slash 4x4 would never stand a chance against any of the more competitive 4WD SCT platforms. But on clay, it's a lot closer. And on dirt, good driving matters more than anything else and even a Slash 4x4 can be competitive in the hands of a skilled driver, especially if they also know how to tune their vehicle.
