@@worktvk Exactly. And usually the lighting is way more flattering in the afters. Harsh Top and side lighting make everyone look awful; gentle front lighting with diffused side - lighting makes people look great. I mean, it's oversimplified here, but imagine shooting someone at high noon and how awful they'll look.

I totally agree. I'm 60-years old, and of course have whined about my sags and bags and wrinkles, but I'm determined now to embrace aging and start being grateful for the wisdom the years have given me, not to mention I can now call everyone "Honey" with abandon! What's been true for me, and I'm sure is true for many older ladies, is the pleasure and relief of not trying to live up to some impossible standard of beauty and reveling in being myself with all my quirks. There is great freedom in aging.

Plenty of surgeons (including one who has done multiple surgeries on me which are not cosmetic, but he does cosmetic surgeries as well) do NOT tell the truth or have the patient’s best interest in mind. To many, you are walking potential $$$ and nothing more. Of course that also goes for other professions out there, but it is especially high ranking in the surgical profession. Surgeons supposedly are one of the highest ranking professions for psychopathic individuals. Take it from someone who has been there, done that: it’s wise to be careful when considering a surgery. To do your research as all surgeries are life-altering in some form and often permanent. Obviously the surgeon who commented above actually cares about her patient’s lives, so thank GOD for her! ❤️

@@SW-oy5zw I think plastic surgeons who work at hospitals get paid a monthly salary, as opposed to those performing cosmetic surgeries? Either way, as they often work on restoring people's looks, like cancer/burn/assault/maul/etc.victims, I think they particularly have patients' best interest in mind. It's their passion to help get the best results.

My questions would be 1 Can you see a faint raise of the thread under the skin? 2 Once the bands dissolve after a year does it all fall back down and one must repeat the procedure annually? 3 The cost? And does the cost of having to redo it every 1 to 2 years surpass having a full lower face lift that I would assume, if one takes very good care of themselves in terms of nutrition and exercises, rest, etc. lasts longer?

  • @eg4926

Amplifying procedures like this to your overwhelmingly young female audience with absolutely no mention of: 1) potential complications/risks...such as, off the top of my head: ultimately exacerbating skin stretching, threads snapping before they dissolve, potential for nerve or muscular damage? 2) cost 3) how often it needs to be redone to maintain results reads very native advertising to me & is frankly wildly irresponsible on Refinery29’s part. I am also exhausted by this convoluted narrative of empowerment through plastic surgery when all you are doing is bending over backwards to meet patriarchal beauty standards because you’ve internalized that your value rests largely in how conventionally attractive you are (which means aging is the ultimate Bad given the current status quo) if you wanna get work done that’s absolutely your right, but simply & straight up it is never just for you- that’s just not the nature of external appearances when you live in a ~society~ no hate to the women in the video, i just think Refinery29 is gross for this type of harmful messaging. we get enough of it in the media already, more is not needed.

Please do a little research and understand the material used in the threads; you could no more easily “ snap” or break them than you could a fishing line...Did you see any facial skin stretching ? No, you didn’t because the “ mature “ skin is simply repositioned with support to it’s original /youthful placement ; this procedure yields subtle results.

I don't know how I feel about this. Beauty ages as we do. It may not be the youthful fresh look we once had but that's what life is. Embracing the new and unknown and making the best out of it. You can still be beautiful at 40 or beyond. I don't think it's healthy to try to maintain a level of youthfulness that you've already lived. This kind of procedure perpetuates the idea that the ideal beauty standard will be forever young.

I did this 6 weeks ago for my neck, not my face. 6 LIfting threads not barbed ones, but the newer ones that still catch but without sharp barbs, they're softer but still have the lifting effect and about 20 smooth threads. I really like the result though the recovery was more of a pain in the ass than expected and for a couple weeks I wasn't sure if it was worth it. But now that things have calmed down I'm really happy with it. It's a very subtle difference not in a way that someone would say "what did you do to your neck?" and exactly what I wanted because I was only really sagging in one small place and it absolutely picked it up. It's still my skin, I still look my age but it took away some of the excess. There was only a little bit to pick up anyway. This was more for me and for my wedding pictures next month not something others would notice. TBD how long it lasts but I'm really glad I did it for my wedding. I also got a discount through a friend so I can't say for everyone that it's the best financial decision and you definitely need a really good practitioner. It was a bit uncomfortable but with the lidocaine and laughing gas I was pretty much fine. Pain came later but only for a few days and then just off and on for 6 weeks.
