Tudor is mainly all about black bay and their chronograph (other models not that impressive). On the other hand Longines is killing it with new releases like Zulu time 39mm heritage chronograph hydroconquest GMT conquest 38mm. Personally I feel Longines is taking a step ahead of Tudor

Cartier and Tudor are killing it right now for a simple reason that they’re priced correctly. So many brands (like Omega) are priced too high and it shows in the grey market

Cartier is killing it because of their timeless and iconic designs. Like the Porsche advertising slogan: “There is no substitute.” Brand and design ftw. Not so much for their pricing, in my opinion. That is the only reason I haven’t bought one yet.

100% longines is on par with Tudor. They are different though. Tudor is all about the dive watch which is the craze. Longines has a much wider catalog and as a result, more misses. Tudor is overhyped due to its perceived connection to Rolex. And i own both. Dress watches, longines master and flagship. Field watches, longines spirit. Sport watches, longines conquest. Chronos, longines heritage, conquest, spirit flyback.

I wish Cartier would invest into better movements. Love my Santos Medium, but damn it’s dying for a more reliable movement and larger power reserve. My Longines Hyrdroconquest GMT Sunray Brown was my first semi-HI End purchase, and it’s been amazing.

Well, not much into Cartier because I don't dress up but I appreciate how nice they are. I could use one for the occasions where I get into a suit every 12-15 years. Longines and Tudor have never excited me but I appreciate that they are solid entry/mid-level luxury watches. Micros are always a nice diversion and it's nice to retreat into this space when you cycle off of buying the more expensive stuff. It scratches the itch and sometimes you even end up with some keepers! Brands that are "Killing it"? I don't know. I'm never drawn to the "latest and greatest". My more expensive watches are typically stuff with staying power, that have been out for a while.

yeah, those UK guys are very creative. I mean, the Bel Canto is a beauty. And Studio Underdog is just amazing. Farer is also at that level (i mean, their moonphase is so cool.) The only problem with these UK microbrands is that as soon as they are released, they get sold out.

I believe that Sinn is developing magnificently. They bring out so many new models and continue to develop their collection in terms of technology and design. One example is the new Sinn 903 ST, which is technically far superior to the Breitling Navitimer. Technology and design at a still acceptable price.

Longines still use the worst, cheapest and nastiest watch pins (cotter pins) in their bracelets, which automatically disqualifies them for me. Only $100 watches have them now. The benchmark starter brands for me are the usual Casio + Citizen + Seiko and none of them use cotter pins any more - I believe all their base models use the pin+bushing method. Cotter pins on the other hand are friction fit to the bracelet links and gradually wear out the hole making it bigger and eventually the entire link becomes useless. Plus cotter pins split in half after about 5 years.

I've had hands on with the monochrome Black Bay a couple of times, once in Hawai'i and again in Minnesota. It's nice, but it really didn't make me want to pull out my wallet. But when I tried on the Spirit Zulu Time you had for review, I knew I had to buy that watch. Just a thought. The first day, when I tried the Black Bay in Honolulu, I ultimately purchased a very nice Planet Ocean that day, I just like it a lot better. Tudor is a lot like Rolex to me. I want to like them because everyone tells me I have to and I'd love to fit in, but I just can't find a watch in their range that I really want...

i thought the monochrome was underwhelming in person. i don't know what it is, just didn't click for me. I've had 3 Tudors and I can't keep them, because they seem to lack character even though they virtually stand alone in what they offer. Longines seems exciting. Maybe it's the brand name that influences my perception, old reliable versus the prospect (even though Longines has been around, their new era is emerging)

Lol, I'm a fan of both Tudor and Longines but the way you guys are bashing Tudor is stupid. You want to talk about Longines with the same stupid logic? Longines was a dead brand that was bought out by the swatch group and is now just spitting out archival designs with poor-fitting large proportions. Business-wise, the brand exists to target the range of tissot/hamiliton price-range buyers (both also swatch group) with nothing made in-house. It's a brand used to make buyers feel like they are buying a watch with pedigree (which it has) but nothing about the modern iteration of the brand stands on its own.
