With all the powerful bonuses it's actually super easy. I play deity regularly and have been playing JNRs districts mods since they first came out. It's hard to go back to vanilla. Not only is it more generic, but you notice how much more gradual the base game is. Honestly I can't play without the mods.

urban complexity is one of my favorite mods for civ 6. note that there's some special features if you play with monopolies and corporations mode. maybe next playthrough you can run that? also, a small tip: not being able to harvest bonus resources isn't as much of a penalty as it used to be, as every bonus resource has some sort of benefit now, either it lets you build a new improvement in that city, or it provides some sort of passive bonus, unlocked with technology

Is everyone sleeping on the maori forest production passive? Favorite civ game I ever played was a marae/preserve-only game, no improving resources. I planted forest on every tile on the continent. Every single tile was SICKENINGLY good -- production, culture, science coming out the ears in every single city. Every tile producing tourism, and half of them giving science too... But I can't find anyone who plays the maori like that, feels like everyone's just chopping away like it's any other civ

While Kupe can't remove resources, it doesn't always mean it works against preserves! I think it can be worth thinking of those resources as potentially bonus yields for them. Place a preserve next to copper? Enjoy the extra gold. It's something that doesn't always come up, because the preserve takes time to come online, and there may be mods that merit further consideration, but I think it's something to at least consider!

Scouts are recon units that get a handy ranged attack for defense later in the game but scouts are currently crippled due to not being able to upgrade them outside of your territory - but thats the thing, if you're using scouts properly they probably aren't conveniently nearby in order to swing by your borders for an upgrade. They need to be able to promote outside of territory but make it take 2 or 3 turns, have them "set up camp and resupply" and then come out promoted.

I typically do this with Japan, but I played a True Start game with Maori and grabbed every single island besides Australia (I did take New Zealand, Tasmania etc from them) and then closed boarders on every civ in the game preventing them all access to the ocean with the exception in a few key places where I just stockpiled ships to attack anyone even attempting to enter the blue waters. (Looking at you Australia and Brazil) Since I play on the Nintendo Switch I chose the alternative colors. The ones that match Tom Nook's shirt from Animal Crossing and renamed my capital island to Resident Services and then dominated. It was like the prequel to Animal Crossing New Horizons explaining how Tom Nook got all those islands. It was a fun game and that strategy works so much better with Japan because of their shallow water bonus, but the more powerful naval nations came be mitigated if you camp their harbors early and refuse them even one boat.

Hey Potato - a comment about scouts to counter your opinion @ 24:20 ... I had three scouts early game and made a highly promoted spec ops army in the late game. Because of their ability to move after attacking and the +20 combat strength, I was able to one shot every unit from a free city and destroy the city itself over without taking any damage. Just needed a melee ship to do the capture. Would be awesome to see that in one of your games.

I think scouts can be useful as a defensive early military unit, but only really in 2 scenarios: to put a city under siege if there's 1 tile across a river from the city center, plop the scout in and hit fortify, or if the city has no military, but you don't want to build another warrior because you have archers or something; or to defend a flank/fortify on defensive terrain. A fortified scout on defensive terrain does actually beat a warrior. Problem is, swordsmen is a completely different story, and you can't upgrade scouts until skirmishers...

More civ! If at all possible, please play the Denmark civ mod at some point, both Norway and Sweden being in civ VI with no Denmark triggers me no end.

Glad Civ6 is back on the menu! Nothing against Humankind, but nothing in favor also.. Also, Maori cant harvest ANY type of resources, including wheat (bonus resource)..
