Awesome vid as always. The tumour result from the larvae of a parasite that encysts in the muscle tissue. The fish reacts by forming connective tissue around the site of the infection, effectively isolating it in a fluid-filled sac. The parasite generally dies apparently, leaving a sac with black inky fluid. I had fish in tanks develop these (back in uni days) and often they healed up eventually.

Cool video Matty for fast fish there are reels with an independent knob, where only the spool turns when the fish takes line. Good for the fnger and the line doesn't get caught so quickly

Hey mate, I've asked the same question about the black ink sack before and here's the answer I got from a writer of a fishing magazine. "Its a result of infection with Sarcotaces sp., a type of philichthyid copepod which infects the musculature of a range of fish species. When the cysts are cut by the fillet knife they release black fluid over the fillet."

I have seen heaps of fish of many species with wounds behind the head, some healed, some fresh. I once caught a Bonito with a fresh wound and sucker marks on its flanks. I believe they are from squid attacks. I have never seen the black cysts.

I 💯 agree with yiur stand point. Sustainable fishing isnt about keeping no fish, its about showing respect to the environment and taking only enough for a feed. Taking one good sized fish a trip is totally fine imho. Its when guys go out and 'bag out' and take 20-30 fish a boat off a single flat that I get a little disappointed. And thats an fish on fly

Awesome Tusky! Bro, keep your fly rod tip touching the surface of the water when you're stripping your fly. You'll "feel" the eat in an instant and miss fewer bites! Instead of lifting the rod to get a hook set, just keep the rod pointed at the fish while the tip is still at the waterline and give it a hard strip set with your stripping hand and you'll properly set the hook deep and firmly. Also when casting and when you pick up the fly line, while keeping the rod tip still at the water line, take out the slack with your stripping hand, then reach up the flyline to strip again and then S L O W L Y pick up the rod. As you pick up the line with the rod, you'll feel the water tension which properly loads the rod while you lift it and then shoot some behind you once you hit your back stroke stop and then make your forward cast and then eight shoot it on your forward stroke or make one more false cast and then shoot it out, not hauling it any faster than your haul on a normal false cast and you see the rod wake up with plenty of power without you forcing it out there (which can blow up your cast. Finally.... S L O W down your casting stroke and let the rod do the work and not you forcing it out there (like you would casting a plug on a spinning rod).

@@Daiwa_Is_King Mate, I didn't tell him how to fish. He's seriously awesome, but is still somewhat new to fly fishing and fly casting. These things I mention will only improve his game. I have about 25yrs worth of helping people with their fly casting. But that being said, he's the man when it comes to fishing in his dream setting that most only dream they had the opportunity to do so and to catch what's he's caught.
