Interesting. I have these and didn't think they were anything special, I mean I have BRe Knuckle Peacemakers in one Les Paul and they are phenomenal and the I have these in another and SD Magic Greens in another. All are different but all are equally great, saying one blows the other out the water is a strange claim

Kris, the content is really nice to see.. and thank you. On pickups, I always like to match them on the covers.... personal preference. I ended up picking up the Toxic Twin and recently a decibelics Golden Horse. Absolutely the finest Klon type sound I have ever heard. Ever. Take care and keep jamming.... have to refret my 1990 Greco with dry pickup. Lightning on standby.

Hi Kris. The new bridge pickup sounds really close to the old one tonally, and reducing the output makes it more versatile and controllable. As for neck ones, maybe I am wrong, but for me, it sonds like they not only have reduced low frequencies, but the volume of the low strings as well. I would probably fiddle with the height of the pickup or polpieces a bit. However, the new set sounds awesome, so congrats on the update!!!

Hi kris! A lot of musicians especially the yonger generation forget that the les paul was conceived as b bop, jazz in other words for clean sounds in the 50s. It just happened that professionals got that blues, rock sound in the late 60s. by cranking there amps I also use low wind Humbuckers there are more articulate and compress less. As always great playing kris. 👌 👍🙏

Hi Kris, For old neck pickup try capacitor in series before volume potentiometer. It cuts off some low end mud. Begin with 47nF then try 22nF and so on. You will find best value for you. I added this mode in my les paul with P90. I use 15nF capacitor for neck pickup, 10nF is also ok. For bridge pickup, maybe treble bleed...good luck!

Sounds terrific. I wouldn't put anything higher powered than these into a Les Paul. If you have too much output you get this muddy mid clash with a Les Paul or other mahogany guitars. You want a pickup that's bright enough to balance well. But not overwhelming.

Hi Kris.Have you choose the bridge pickup uncovered to avoid the "bad feedback" of the unpotted pickup (microphonic with high gain)? I've the set of Mojotone (regular output with cover) and the bridge has the famous "mechanic feedback" with high gain. Thanks

You tried the various methods with the old pickup like flipping the neck pickup around so the screw pole pieces were facing towards the bridge instead of the neck, and lowering the pickup body and raising the screw pole pieces to get more clarity and articulation, right? With modern Modelers, even mediocre pickups can be dialed in to sound awesome through the right Cab/Speaker. 🤷‍♂

Listened to the examples a few times with really good headphones and the Mojotone's have a better balanced tone overall. The Seymour in the bridge and the RV in the neck were good but they did not have the vintage sweetness and balance of the MT set. What is funny is i had been seeing quite few players that have been through the PAF repro hunt all say they liked the Mojotone clones the most. they had tried Wizz, Throbak,OX4 and a few others and the only other pickup winder that was equal to Mojo was stephens designed and that is really saying something because his pu's are a two year wait and they are big bucks!

Where did you get the mixed set (zebra + aged nickel) from? Love the look but T only has matching sets and the Mojotone website doesn’t show these either :(

Hi, they only show the matched sets because 99% of the buyers wouldn’t ever choose a mixed set. 😅 I get it, it’s not the classic „clean“ look. If you want to mix you can get the neck and bridge separately and combine the looks as you wish. 👍 Cheers!

It's as good as you describe Kris. Still in the rabbit hole? 😂 Btw, about the old bridge pick up, can you solve the problem by turning down the volume knob to the sweet spot? And for the neck pick up, can you solve the problem on the amp setting(treble and bass knob), and adjust the bridge pick up sound with the bridge pickup tone knobs? One more question, what will you do with the old pick up? Thanks

for the neck you can also solder a capacitor that acts like an inverse tone knob - it just takes a while until you find the right value that works for that pickup.

hi, this will sound like a real stupid question but I'm new to guitar and want to play the style you played in the very first song. I assume you're playing in one chord? if so, what do I have to learn to be able to freestyle like that? will a single pentatonic scale be enough to riff? any scale? any help would be appreciated as those pickups sound divine

The 59 Clones are amazing. I have a set of the three different versions. Hot, Standard and Low wind. The low wind set sounds so good in my CS‘64 ES 335. I have the Hot set in my R9. These pickups are so much more articulate than the CS Custombuckers.

The Ltd Edition SKinnerbursts I have in my Classic, are adjusted to be able to be clean. and still have that 'lively' tone. Not sure why yours seem so hot. But you mentioned Antiquities. Mine were from the Joe Bonamassa Skinner burst limited edition run of a few 100. Not really Antiquities. Frankly, I preferred your old set over the Mojotones. Yes, the old Neck could get boomy in your samples, time to time. But you got rid of that, at the expense of a more overall meh tone, imho. On the Bridge, I don't think either was better or worse. Just slightly different. In the head to head, the Skinnerbursts wasn't any hotter than the Mojotones.

I can tell right away you just have to lower the neck pickup a little. your going to have to mass around with the pickup height and the screws a little on the pickup but you will be able to dial it in.

  • @revolead

I prefer Seymour Duncan pickups in most instances exactly because they don't have that obnoxious mid hump. Every overdrive clone on the market (SD-1, Klon, Tubescreamer, modded BD-2s, even some Blues Breaker clones) have mid and mid-high humps built in. That allows you to more than compensate for whatever mid-loss is in a traditional PAF design. It's exactly the scooped mids that make a PAF a PAF, and I don't understand the obsession over the last 5-7 years of making a PAF with a mid hump, then running the mid-pronounced LP design into a mid-heavy Klon into a mids-forward Marshall. How many mids does a player need? Then again, my preferences versus yours are exactly why there are so many pickup designers in the market, so if the ubermids tone makes you happy, then go for it.

@@avispasentuass I will also admit my Heritage H-150 has a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF. It's a mid-forward, slightly hot PAF that wouldn't be to Kris's taste, but I do like it. I just have to tone down the mids on my pedals when I use it. That mid-forward PAF tone also sounds great through a cab emulator with Vintage 30s (or something like them).
