Finding Flea Market Bargains for my Little Italian House was so much fun! And having my first renovation completed was remarkable and I am over the moon! A little trip to Florence to check on the progress of my bathtub renovation and of course, visiting my son Jack who just happened to be there too! Thank you all for your comments on my ‘Renovating my Italian House - Part 1’ video where you gave my such great tips on hanging my laundry. I hope I got it right this time!
Here are some links to places and things that I reference in ‘Finding Flea Market Bargains for my Little Italian House’.

The Fortress, the Joseph's Tuscan summer home and workshop location, is nestled in the heart of Northern Tuscany a region known as the Lunigiana. The medieval stone compound sits on 27 acres, on the grounds are Roman ruins, a river and the vineyard. The Fortress has a breathtaking view of the Apennine mountains & the marble-topped Apuane Alps and the valley below. The property is surrounded by olive groves, chestnut trees, and fruit orchards. The Fortress was a medieval defensive tower in a region that had over 120 castles and kingdoms to protect in the 15th century. On the property there are 3 outbuildings, a massive terrace, and a private living quarters. You can wander the grounds with camera in hand and capture the Italian country life during your stay.

I stayed at Stanze del David Place near the Uffizi. You can find all the details on Booking.com
Unfortunately, the flea market and tile/flooring place do not have websites. And I actually can’t remember the name of the flea market (lol!) as I literally just stumble don it but do know that it’s in Sarzana! And Il Matromella (flooring and tile) is in Villa Franca. My bath is being repaired and restored in Florence here: www.alexvasche.it

It is really amazing what 100 years had done: the Italians back then flocked to the US and now the Americans are mesmerizing living in Italia. Life is funny the way it treats us.
We have started a new fun game Julie; when you say “literally,” we take a sip of wine! Enjoying your series, “literally.” 😉🌷🍷

Great idea of taking a sip of wine each time she says “literally”! I must try that. She uses that word much too often. I love the Mapperton series and also this one. Julie interjects lots of good energy. Love her!

Yes on clipping, otherwise they get blown together on the line. Pinning on the leeward side. Also depends on fabric, as some fabric gives you “wings” when hung on hangers. I always drape my clothing over the top to the air pit line. It helps stop the sag and gives and even line to pin. I never need to flip them either. Just takes a half hour to one hour more to dry.

You can buy little clips that the hangers go through, nothing blows away.
I live in Australia and we are experts at hanging out washing. I hang all my light weight pieces of clothing on hangers attached to the line with a peg. No creases, lines or need to iron. Try it xx I can’t weight to visit Italy again 🥲

So fascinated by your laundry adventure. Hang shirts and dresses by the bottom hems so you don’t get marks from the pins on the top of the garment. Also three pins can be used for things hanging next to each other. Saves on pins. Just overlap items next to each other and pin them together. You can do that all the way down the line. Hope that makes sense. Sorry if it doesn’t. You can also hang your clothespin bag on the line and move it along as you pin stuff. Makes it a little more convenient than reaching down to get them from the floor. You’re doing great. Love your Italian village. So beautiful there. Your poor lungs! You must’ve been worn out from that ordeal. 😆😆

Julie, FYI way back b4 cloths dryers our ancestors only had the sun. My father only wanted the he slept on sheets dried on line till he left planet! Sun dries, disinfects helps to get stains out etc etc. Ask around there your neighbors help guide the learning process but it worked for millennia.

Thank you for showing that hotel it is indeed affordable and will definitely be adding it to my bucket list of trip itineraries!
Hang the pillowcase the other way, so the opening is at the bottom and the air can flow in from below. Can't believe I'm saying this, but you are right there is an art to hanging clothes etc. My friend always colour coded her pegs when hanging the laundry, I don't go that far, but it looks pretty.

I grew up hanging laundry in my backyard (so relaxing), so am familiar with being careful regarding certain colors and fabrics in direct sunlight, along with the length of time in the sun. But your clothes, etc. will last longer drying them naturally than in a dryer.

You hung your dress across the line at the bust line. Perhaps you will have a fold line where you don’t want one. Try putting things over the line where you wouldn’t mind a fold.
Wow, I am old so I thought everyone knew how to hang clothes. I never turned bed linens inside out (pillow cases) because I wanted the sun to act as a whitener.
We bought a house to renovate in Tuscany too. I love buying antique or secondhand items to repurpose, old italian pottery etc. We have a long journey to renovate our house. Thank-you for sharing yours. It's always nice to see different approaches to renovation.

What a lovely journey you've taken us on 😊 It's exciting to see how you are taking antiques and repurposing them - preloved pcs which will then become part of your new home. Very happy for you 😊
When hanging your clothes, we always hung the second piece corner with the corner of the first to conserve space on the line to allow for a larger load. Also we had a bag that snapped onto the line to contain the clothes pins. We also had a wooden stick with a notch in one end to lift the line up when hanging heavy clothes.
Loved this Julie! Glad to see the light is finally up over the door. Thanks for taking us to the markets!

I love your videos. They’re so comforting to watch. Laundry tip - When I hang my laundry to dry (because I wear a lot of linen) I put my clothes on hangers with clips between the hangers to hold them in place. Then I put them straight back into the closet! In the winter (I’m in Canada) I hang still hang my wet clothes on hangers but I place them above a dehumidifier. This dries them very quickly. ❤

My grandmother use to wash her vintage 1930-50’s clothes by hand. She always laid sweaters, blouses and dressing flat to dry most of the way, then on the line by the bottoms hems. She didn’t want the sun to fade the colors or the clothes to stretch too much.
You are incredible. What you are doing for your daughter is unbelievable.
So much fun to see your lights up and working, the flea markets, the vintage architectural warehouses plus you wore two lovely vintage dresses. I love that you immerse yourself in the local culture. The hotel room in Florence was a wonderful little room, so tastefully decorated. Great vlog! 🥰

Julie, your lamp is beautiful, and looks like it was made for your house. All of your dresses are so pretty. 👗 As regards your washing. If you plan to stay in Italy during inclement weather, I resisted buying a tumble dryer (asciugatrice) for years, on moving to Italy because they’re so expensive here. However I found slimline ones on Amazon for a decent price, (I didn’t want a larger size) and took the gamble of buying a less than perfect ‘used’ one. The only fault that I could find was that the instructions were photocopied. 💁🏻♀️ Really enjoying your renovation vlog, as I’ve done it all myself. Builders in Italy are so good on the whole. 😊 In bocca al lupo! x

Also check out on Amazon BESy Retractable Clothesline for those rainy days. Found this in a B&B bathroom over the tub area. It will support up to 20lbs of wet laundry but be sure if you try another brand that it has a steel cable. You mount the cable holder on one side wall and the little hook on the opposite sidewall. The whole thing is very small. With a stand alone tub, that configuration probably won't work but I'm sure you could figure out some other place. I loved your show on Bravo and I am so excited to follow your new journey❣️

Love that flea market! So many beautiful things! Can imagine how to fix up !
First, laundry doesn’t have to be in the sun. Colors will dry in the shade. The pillow cases were upside down, opening to the ground. Second, a hair dryer or vacuum with the hose in reverse will blow up the air mattress. But your determination was heart warming. Italy is lovely , but Americans are still having trouble getting over seas. Lots of restrictions and they are considering more because of the Delta variant. Watch your neighbors hang their laundry and you will learn how it’s done. Loved the quick video to see how things are progressing.
Never bored, just subscribed and loving every minute from Maryland USA.
