I Found the BEST SPOT!! Incredible Pike Fishing

Спорт

Floating an unfamiliar river for some super aggressive pike. I searched around for a while, and then found one of the best pike holes I've fished in a while!
Fly rod: 9' 8wt Orvis Clearwater rod (4 piece)
Reel: Waterworks‑Lamson Liquid Fly Reel 3.5
Line: 8wt scientific anglers fly line, 20lb tapered flouro leader with a 20lb RIO wire tippet.
Rod/reel setup:
-Quantum Octane 6'6" medium heavy action rod with an Abu Garcia silver max and 30lb braided line, connected to a 27lb 9" steel leader.
***The rod and reel I was using is a cheap setup, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I only use it at the river in case something happens, I'd rather break that than an expensive rod/reel.

Good going, definitely found a great spot... at least for that time of year. I found a spot in a cut that was great once and good some other times, but evidently a seasonal thing. Most aggressive jerks I've seen, and it worked. Will have to experiment with that presentation when casting for pike, appreciate the tip!

We fish a lot for Northern Pike and Walleye, on the lake I grew up on we could go out from 3:00 to dusk and get 3 northerns all between 8 and 12 pounds, we wouldnt even consider keeping one under 6 pounds. As soon as the sun touched the trees while its setting its time to drop to smaller minnows and start hammering Walleyes, thats a fun day!

after fishing for 30 years I finally began to fish with a single hook on all luers. I do miss some strikes but it is still a rush and I do less damage to the fish and it is so much easier to catch and release. My favorite thing to do near my house in Florida was to go to the jetty and fish with a plug without hooks and see if I could get a fish to the jetty , everyone thinks you are crazy but it is still alot of fun.

Peelindrag yeah go for it! You would love Sweden when it comes to pike fishing. If you know the right areas you'll catch 30-50 pike in one day and 5 of them will be over 40 inches. I recommend you to search for the swedish fishing movie "Gäddfeber." You might not understand the language but two guys that work in the sportfishing industry caught 22 pike over 22 lbs and 7 of those 22 pikes was over 33 lbs, and they did this in only 2 days of fishing.

He always mentions looking for slower moving and deeper water. That seems to be mainly what he fished on the rivers

As Hunter mentioned, slower moving water and deeper water are the two main things I look for in a river to decide how good I think it'll be. I find the access points on Google maps and then go explore the river, fishing all the slower moving pockets and holes. After walking up the river for an hour or two you'll usually get a good idea of whether that stretch is good or not.

Pro tip: when looking for the trophy fish. Stick to the deeper areas of the rivers. Bigger the water, bigger the fish. Seems as though your boat was usually in the deeper parts of this river. Try fishing where your boat sits and I can guarantee bigger fish. Also, fish the wind blown sides as this is where the bait fish will be more often then not

I appreciate the advice. I always fish areas before I bring my boat near them, I just don't put that all in the video. But in this case I was already fishing the deeper waters.
