I Found The BEST Place in Rwanda 🇷🇼 vA 113

I ride from Kigali to Kayonza, in Rwanda, in Africa.
On the way, I find a lot of local cyclists transporting goods and people on their bicycles. Finally, in Kayonza, I arrive at the Urugo Eco Lodge, women's opportunity Center, a wonderful place where I receive an incredibly warm welcome.

@manuelaffonso, Maybe so, just like your house was built with the help of a carpenter, mason, engineer, electrician, plasterer, etc. If Rwanda decide to build a road, and use a Singaporean company instead of a Rwandese company, it is still a Rwandese road and project. The same way you can say "I built my house in...". You don't say "the carpenter, mason, etc built my house...".

Yeah. That’s true that Kigalians can be friendly when approached but in lies the issue to be honest. Anybody who is well travel knows that it can be very intimidating having to approach locals in order to feel their friendliness. You would rather the locals approach you. So, from that point of view, Kigali is probably the least friendly city in East Africa. In other cities in East Africa, locals will go miles to make you feel welcome, talk to you, and ask if you need anything. You don’t have to ask. I think Kigalians we are too prideful in that regard.

@@carvachallobah04 I get that it doesn’t mean that Kigalians are unhappy it’s just how they appear. But as humans we are visual creatures. We can only be able to confirm what we see. If you don’t see something, you’ll have a hard time believing it exists. Similarly If you don’t show that you’re excited, people won’t know that you’re excited. It would take a lot more effort for them to figure that out. And I think his remark came from that angle. It was based on an observation which is visual by nature.

Your thinking betrays an inferiority complex and ignorance, in how you assume that Europeans are well behaved and mind their own business. You will be shocked to discover how most are driven by a primitive desire to show their dislike and hate to non-whites. They will make time and effort to show you this, in one way or another. That's why Yves is surprised that human beings in Africa are friendly, and only interfere in a positive way. A visit to Europe will be an awakening in how tribal/racist they are, driven by some primordial instincts that will make them poke their noses in your business to ruin your day.

You know the thing about every tourist that comes to Africa they think it's like one big same community aka a country, not a continent. As Rwandans we are mostly calm and reserved people a comparison would be like the Japanese or Chinese meaning if you don't know the language which is Kinyarwanda most people will not talk to you because they just can't or don't feel comfortable doing so. I've noticed that when visitors come to Rwanda or Kigali specifically and see that the official languages are English and French, they assume since it's the capital city people actually speak either, which is not true those are more of business languages, not our day-to-day language so if you can't even speak a word or two in Kinyarwanda just to get people excited to talk to you don't expect people to approach. It's just not who we are and it's not because of our tragic history of the Genocide it's just the way we are with people we can't relate with in the same Language. So you said we are a sad city because we don't name our streets, we don't need to because roads are just roads to us so we don't feel the need to name them. We identify places on the names of some important buildings located in that area eg: kacyiru kuri immigration/kuri ambassade ya banyamerika or Kwarwahama/ Kwarubangura and so on and so forth. Second, you want to justify the fact that Kigali is sad just because you had 2 bad experiences with lodge managers. First and foremost it's unfortunate that you encountered such bad customer service from people who are supposed to know how to treat well visitors since they work in the hospitality business TOTALLY unacceptable, and I agree that we have a big customer service problem across all areas that we must improve. Having said that that doesn't explain why you would label the whole city as sad having been just to few places around and not actually giving the full context in your video, you just mentioned the road naming thing, not the bad encounters you had. So sometimes we see on the internet some videos of black people going to other countries such as Belgium, China, the US, India, etc and getting some bad Airbnb experience or just that the Airport authorities have specifically targeted them just because they come from such and such African country so can we conclude from those videos that the given country mentioned is full of racist bigots or rude hosts. For example, if they had encountered that in a specific city is that city labeled as generally a bad city. But on the positive side, you got some good groceries that gave you a piece of home. So kudos to my city for that. As Joey Swoll famously says "YOU NEED TO DO BETTER"

Just read the beginning of your comment, and you said a lot of things that are not correct. Rwandan people are calm and reserved??? Man, outside of Kigali, that's definitely very far from the truth. Also, you assume that Chinese people are calm and reserved, another statement that is very far from the truth... And finally, it's been years since I am in Africa. I perfectly know that Africa is very diverse and that it is a continent, and I can recognize when there is a weird atmosphere in a city. It's very easy to see that there is a huge weight on people's heads in Kigali, and this statement has nothing to do with the bad treatment I received in my accommodations in Kigali.

Then he mentioned The Northern countries which interestingly are ranked as the best to live in year in, year out. Thats when i realised he just needed abit of chaos in kigali to suit his African perception. I do enjoy these blogs and the encounters with our ppl on the streets. but man Rwanda done changed and for the better. Africans can be warm without the chaos.
