Old bootlegs always intrigued me because there wasn't exactly an effort to replicate the actual style but instead making it appealing.

I'm Chinese and I used to play the Pokemon Red version showing in the video when I was a kid. It's so hilarious to see in Elliot's video

2:27 It is "Hey, You Pikachu!" and yes it is on the N64 and my cousin loves it for some reason.

Syntax games typically steal other games sound chips, and I'm pretty sure all the music and sounds are from CastleVania 2: Belmont's Revenge.

As a Taiwanese, this video just brings back so many memories. The term "神奇寶貝" is an old Taiwanese Mandarin translation of "Pokemon". However, in 2016, Nintendo aimed to "standardize" the translation across Chinese-speaking regions, so they changed it to "寶可夢", which is just a transliteration of "Pokemon". It's heartening to see that somewhere out there, "神奇寶貝" is still on someone's shelf, bearing witness to history.

The Pokémon “Green” was probably just Pokémon Blue. It started with the same animation and the sprites are from that game as well. The original Pokémon Green had different (and very ugly) sprites that got redesigned for Blue. Then we got Pokémon Blue sprites for our Red and Blue versions everywhere else in the world.

In the last game (the platformer with Raichu) I'll guess all of this: - The grounds sprites look ripped from Super Mario World - The music and probably some sounds are from GB Castlevania - I'm pretty sure the frame around Mewtwo in the game over screen is from the title screen of Super Mario Bros 2

7:33 - the music in the game is from Castlevania - Belmonts Revenge, just pitched a little lower.

Gotta Find 'Em All

To this day I watch YT vids like this in hopes to find out the game I played in Kindergarten. It's similar enough to regular Pokemon at a glance, but all you do is throw balls or rocks at some sprites approaching you from the edges of the screen. I know Onyx was one of the sprites, but I don't remember much else anymore. It was what I assumed Pokemon was until I actually played it in 2nd or 3rd grade.

The last game looks like some crazy mashup of Casltevania and Gargoyle's Quest.

Bro why you actin like you don't know the names of the pokemon 😂

I am jealous of those knock off Pokemon carts. I need to keep a better eye on stuff like that - pretty difficult to find online though since most sites don't allow bootlegs like that for sale.

I love that the knockoff Yellow Version has a Djinn from GoldenSun on it.

I think it’s funny how sometimes in that 2d Pokémon one the level tiles look really good almost like they were taken from Mario world and other times they look absolutely terrible

Looks like a romhack of a wonderboy/monsterworld game with the dropped pink boots and tunic at the start with sprites turned into pokemon.....thats a wierd one.

Pokemon Green was changed to Blue when it was localized by Nintendo of America because they thought Blue would sell better in the West. Blue is the one that truly never left Japan

I have to admit from an artistic standpoint the box art cartridges and manual work are visually gorgeous except for the dodgy game knock off. 10/10 effort with a Gold Star ⭐️

I wonder if any of these have been dumped and uploaded for the internet to enjoy yet.

I have a old bootleg copy of “need for speed” for the gba that i can’t handle anymore, it’s so weird it has a battery and off brand cart designs similar to this

The third game with the charmander, clefairy and squirtle on the front is actually blue version, not green. The jigglypuff battling gengar in the game's intro and the sprites gave it away.

lol the spiral holograms take me back, somehow every 2000s bootleg toy had to have these holo-spirals all over them hahaha It made spotting fake pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh or what not cards easy haha.

That one game saying Niutiude or whatever on the logo screen probably has something to do with the Analogue Pocket not running it. Also, I thought hacking a custom logo onto that screen while still booting was only possible on the DMG and GB Pocket. Those read the logo from the cartridge once to verify it and then again to display it, making it possible for a cartridge to present the correct Nintendo logo the first time and then the custom one to show. While the GBC and GBA read it once and both check and display what they read.

I like the Carts, Its like getting a TENGEN game over the Nes Version lol or the Electronic Arts / Micromachine Carts for the Genesis

Your Pokemon Green version was actually Blue version with a green pallet and a modified title screen. Pokemon red has a Charmander standing next to the player sprite, blue has a Squirtle and Green has Bulbasaur as the first Pokemon after booting.

I love the knock offs, I just got some last week.
