What a great review. Thank you for describing your experience with the speakers and for explaining the Wilson Audio line. Great job.
Great stuff, Lee. Thank you for the thorough overview and detailed sound impressions.

That Cranberry Pearl is absolutely exquisite. Anyone who hasn't seen it in person needs to do so to truly appreciate it. I agree with you about bass; one of the most amazing demos I've ever heard was a few years ago at RMAF. Wilson had a system set up with a pair of their Thor's Hammer subwoofers. They played a track that didn't have any appreciable low bass content, and in the middle of it shut off the subs. As soon as they did, your sense of the size of the room the track was recorded in went away immediately. When they turned them back on, it came back. It's clear that our bodies use subsonic cues we can't hear per se to help determine spacial orientation - which makes sense, as it's part of what allowed early humans to determine if that rustling in that bush was a potential bear or mountain lion across the field or RIGHT THERE. 🙂

I remember a Florida show where they had Sasha DAWs (and the new at the time XVX on static display) and two Watch Dogs. The Dogs added so much spatial information and indeed that is what my LoKes are doing in the system. The extra LF extension is just icing on the cake.
I really appreciated all the detail in your review. Very aspirational. And inspirational.
Just beautiful. I wish I could see that finish in person. Congrats!

Good review. It was great see how the speakers were made. I have to commend you getting good quality video of the Cranberry Pearl finish. If I was to buy and Wilson speaker I would likely get that color. I have heard the XVX, AlexV and Sasha DAW with that finish, they all look gorgeous.

I have been an Audiophile for over 50 years. I that time have owned more big systems that most people read about. Starting with Quads original in my dorm room in 1970. The thing that I have always strived for , is the reality of size in relation to the listener. We should always try to repace the position on the performer to you at the concert or club at a distance that relates to your position in the listening hot spot . So with the speakers at say 20 feet from you the performance on simple vocal should be 20 to 30 feet back. The trouble with larger speakers and I will use the larger Wilson’s as a reference . The voice and ambiance become larger in reality. Having lived with both the Aleixia 1. And 2 and will say that their ability to relate to size and ambiance with the hot spot is Superb. There have been very few systems in my travels that do this. With many systems the voice projected is if you at at the microphone and not a listening position 20-30 feet away.this is very fatiguing. By the way I was the part owner of Lyric Hi Fi . And sold thing like infinity IRS etc .larger than reality, but many people liked that during its time . The Duntech Sovereign was one of the only large speakers that did it right years ago.

@@pedrocols,Recorded noises and sounds are music whether or not rhythmic or static. But if you’re listening and reference live vs studio sessions it’s just a matter of preference. A studio is a controlled environment, you can enhance vocals choirs instruments. Live can offer both bliss and errors that’s equally enjoyable but still subjective criteria.
First: your reviewing via video makes most other TAS reviews seem quite limiting by comparison. You've done a superlative job that helps us get closer to appreciating the product. Second: as someone who's progressed from Alexia to Alexia II and now Alexia V, I'm in full agreement with your experience and assessment. These are musical and articulate and just so damned great!

Don't have the Series 1 to compare with but likely a bigger leap still to the Vs.
The cost of Scanspeak drivers + crossovers is only ~ U.S.$ 2,000.Wilson charges U.S.$68,000+ for ready built product.Nice.
I have some very nice speakers and suitable supporting cast but your video has me lusting after the Wilson Audio Alexia V's. Because I still have some sanity left I will never part with over $100,00o AUD's (unless I win Lotto) but at least I'm going to have a listen given the chance. Great video, thanks.
The midrange unit has been changed so is the tonal balance, Alexia V sounds different I'm not really sure it's better
Great Review!! I think you mentioned the speaker cables you are running... was it Ansuz? I have Sasha DAW's coming in at the end of this month (in Cranberry Pearl as well) Which was an easy decision to make, speaker cables on the other hand, that has not been an easy decision. I want to get the most out of my new purchase but I also don't want to spend as much money on cables as I have in the speakers! So I have not purchased any yet.

I have the convergent tweeters I use them in my ultra car audio set up some of the best tweeters I've used the focal Ultima by contrast harsh
I think Alexia Vs are great. But I've also heard the Magnapan 20.7s which cost less than one third the price.
If I’ve been looking & listening to the Bowers & Wilkins 800 speakers, why should Wilson speakers for their extra cost be a consideration?

Because the movable drivers here ensure better time alignment and that improves everything. The Alexia cabinets are less resonant as well.

I admire Wilson’s products, but… If you have bass drivers that opposed forces you wouldn’t need to decouple from vibrations. If you got rid of the woeful invention called a passive crossover you wouldn’t need adjustable time-alignment, as the DSP can handle that. Micro and macro dynamics, low-level detail and driver control are all vastly improved with direct (active) amplifier connections.

Why do you used compressed files from Qobuz & Tidal instead of streaming hi-res files from local storage? I my experience streaming an album from a local hard drive or NAS sounds significantly better then streaming the same album from Qobuz or Tidal, with Qobuz sounding slightly better than Tidal. Your system certainly has the resolution to hear the difference.
