They did make a short rifle version of the Krag called the "Philippine Constabulary Model", which is quite rare & valuable, but that's definitely not it. That old Krag is a "Frankenstein", cobbled together from surplus parts, likely by Francis Bannerman or some other pre-WWII surplus house. Such rifles were often bought by American Legion posts for parades and funeral salutes. Many WW 1 vets, trained on the '03 Springfield & M17 Enfield, wanted a "modern" bolt action hunting rifle, rather than the old leverguns their dad & grandpa used. So, in the 20's & 30's, tons of surplus Krags were sold and used as cheap, effective deer rifles, many being sporterized. And many of them put food on the table during the hard times of the Great Depression, when there was often no other way to do it. If your rifle shoots straight, & feeds you when it counts, then all else doesn't mean a darn thing.

The bad news is that at every flea market there are always at least 1 or 2 guys trying to sell rifles like that. Cut downs and/or home made copies of so called "Jungle carbines". As mentioned in another post, only the .303 British SMLE's used the term and there are not that many originals but Lord knows plenty of Aholes with hack saws will try and make a buck!
Aussie here, its so strange to see places like this considering the ridiculous gun laws here. I am shocked you can buy a decent gun cheaper than a knife and the awesome variety you lucky guys have access to makes me extremely jealous.
Man, I wish we could buy knives and guns at our flea markets. Shit, I wish we could buy them anywhere at all.
@7:19 that Landrover is bad arse lol. I learned to drive in a 1968 model Landrover in Australia. My dad would take me out spotlighting foxes and rabbits, so at 12 years old, he taught me to drive so he could shoot. Great memories. He passed away 2 months ago almost 88 years old. We went on many trips in the Landrover. Pig hunting in New south wales.

G'Day Chief Smokem-- From Australia, Thanks for taking us along to this amazing flea market. Flea markets and car boot sales here in OZ don't have any thing like what you find over in the US--definitely no firearms, although I've picked up a few old firearms related tools such as brass/iron shotgun reloading gear. Also some very basic wood turned ones that you could see a bushman reloading his cartridges with at the end of the day. I've used them and they work fine. Keep your videos coming. Always enjoy watching! Cheers, Steve

At a flea market or swap meet, if it looks like a diamond, it is, until you can prove otherwise. To yourself, that is, the seller will still swear it's a diamond, as long as they can sell it as such. Your eyes, ears, & wits are the only means you can really trust in such places, but if something's worth the price to you, that's all that really counts in the long run.

Krags have a reputation for having a butter-smooth action, but that poor guy looks like he hasn't seen a drop of oil or any TLC since Roosevelt was in office. Neglect of any fine machinery is a deplorable thing, but it's especially revolting when it happens to a fine firearm. That rifle should have been passed on to someone with some responsibility & appreciation for such things several decades ago.
@gregwilliams386

That Krag has a 1903 Springfield front sight and 1901 rear sight. Might be a conversion done by the US Army at the Benicia Arsenal in the 1920's for a civilian marksmanship program.
@grantgarrod2232
17 күн бұрын
@@gregwilliams386, it's possible it could be the model in question, & yet it seems rather unlikely, considering it's state of neglect. Someone involved in marksmanship at that level would be unlikely to let such a rifle intentionally pass into hands of someone that would let it rust to pieces like that. But then, guns can have bad luck too, & it may have been sold at an estate auction to some unknowing & irresponsible slob with no appreciation for what it was.

@@marcb.9492, too many ammo companies keep dropping many of the old reliable cartridges from their lineups to make room for the newest whiz-bang magnums, & if you don't reload, good rifles gather dust in the safe because it's too hard to feed them. I once owned a fine Savage 99A levergun in .250-3000, & I had to let it go because ammo for it, especially varmint loads, was harder to find than a virgin in a cathouse.
Some really nice knives & Guns and some decent prices as well. What free state is this, I may need to move there?

kick arse. man
People who are wondering how this is possible, where it is , what ate the laws on this. I will explain first the legalities. Okay under Federal law it is perfectly legal for anybody to sell their privately owned Firearms to another person in thier same state, without the need for any licensed Gun dealer to become involved, subject to that person's state laws if any. In about 25 or 26 states have no regulations regarding private party sales other than Federal law. And under federal law you cannot sell a gun to anyone that you know is prohibited from possessing firearms. No federal background check is required. Background checks are only required if you buy a gun from a regular gun shop.

Too many people in the past have turned such things to nefarious purposes, until the fearful populace pushed the government to enact draconian laws to "protect the public". Now a days, they have people committing random stabbings in countries all over the world, but they can't stop people from buying or carrying knives. It's peoples' perpetual & often increasing willingness to commit armed assault upon their fellow man that is the true issue, but, since government can't control or even curb such behavior, outlawing ownership of certain "dangerous" objects is the closest they can come to look like they are addressing the issue. :(
