"Painting is really just problem solving from the beginning all the way to the end." I will never forget those words.

Thank you for sharing that story
Saw this up close and it took my breath away. Thank you both for this video. I’m so thrilled I found it x
It's always wonderful to see someone's process, especially when they don't take themselves too seriously.

if you don't think he took himself absoltely seriously, you don't understand the Artist at all

@@lindaroberts2297 I think you misunderstand me. Life is about balance. Too much or too little of anything can be a bad thing. In this instance, Angus is laughing, joking and making jokes as his expense. While I believe he is taking the act of painting itself seriously (which is obvious from his finished piece), he is enjoying the entire process of painting (which is what I'm referring to). Anyone, artists included, who takes themselves "absolutely seriously" would not have that demeanor. Unless they were pretending. But based on how Carly speaks about Angus, I have reason to doubt that. I hope this one pithy paragraph helps in understanding better.
Honestly incredible!!! Every stroke so thoughfully placed to build this beautiful piece!!!!
Loved the chit chat and fun you captured along the way, so good to see how no fuss he is about it all. Such incredible work from Angus and you documented and edited it so well!! We get to see him in action forever now, you’re the best Carls 🙌🏼🌟🤍🤍🤍
Thanks so much Carly. You are so fortunate to have this amazing, sensitive, talented human as a mentor.

That must be an amazing experience for you to be able to follow this painting process and to appreciate the artist letting you into this 'intimite' world of creating and many thanks for sharing ! It was also very amusant to watch and such a great portrait but also the story behind the person is so strong . Loved it all the way . Thanks again !

Really nice job with your filming Carly. You’re so fortunate to have such a great mentor too. In many respects that is what you are to me ; I’ve watched you over the years and I feel that I have picked up many things from you. In your charcoal and oils but also in your words of how you look at life. I feel that your art reflects your life and your life is reflected in your art. Stay healthy and strong!
Great film, Carly. It's not surprising, once you see the process, why it takes a year and a half to paint something like this. Wonderful portrait! It was very encouraging to learn that the greats start their projects at the last moment and then completely blow the deadlines, just like me. I feel much better now! Also great to see that your mentor was able to mentor two painters at the same time he was working on multiple large projects. A great man!

So true!! And yes he actually mentors a lot of young artists and helps them where he can but I’m the only one working for him so I’m lucky to get so much insight

Thank you so much for sharing not only this wonderful masterwork but the process, while also giving us a glimpse into the personality of your mentor. It's art not only on the final piece, but on the wonder about the subject as well as the amazing amount of focus that has to be put into it on time and details. As your mentor says, you did a great job showcasing all those aspects on this video.

Well done, was a real Joy to watch you paint. Great result.
Great video of the process of painting. Well done Carly! Now get to work!😊😊
an artist is about seeing something complicated become easy😊
Ficou fantástica, Carly. Seu mentor é um excelente artista. Linda pintura, sei como é trabalhoso fazer uma obra de arte assim.
So amazing painting 🎉
Loved this his work is insane!! More videos like this please
He is an amazing artist.Loved his portrait of Behrouz at the Archibald. He should be a multiole Archie winner, but alas, the judges are caught up in controversy and wokeism to appreciate brilliant art🙏 What a blessed life you live Carly Renee
Would seriously like to know what projector he uses. I am looking for one. Many artists have been using one of some kind or another for hundreds of years, going back to the camera obscura in the later 16th and early 17th century.

It's not pretty in the background of this painting with an elderly white-haired lady… Just ok for a woman with white hair. Background blue / purple cloudy sky not good!
Not the best mentor to have and this work has already been done by many artists in the late 70's and early eighties in NYC Galleries and executed better. Derivative. Cliche, and technically weak.
