I Flew by Japan's Cheapest Airline from Tokyo to Osaka, But ... Ep.311

I booked Cheapest Plane Ticket from Tokyo to Osaka by LCC Airline flights. It's much cheaper flight compare to regular flights, but there are several things that you should be really careful. Hope my mistakes can help your future Japan trip! (It's a Really Good option for some specific travelers, but Not ALL)

They Only accept 7kg (2 backpacks total)/passenger for Carry-on (You CANNOT buy the carry on space). So if you have several heavy fragile stuffs (Ex. Laptop, Cam, Lenses), Definitely you should avoid using it. But if you don't have heavy fragile stuffs, okay with small seat, and long walking distance. Peach's Services are really good! So It's a great way to save money! (Definitely Much Cheaper) Hope this info helps your next Japan trip😊

You forgot to mention cost of traveling from Tokyo to Narita airport (3600 approax.) Plus Osaka airport to Osaka (3000 yen). Hence total cost should be around 16000 which is more costly than shinkansen

@@vipulbetkekar1597 Where are you getting those transit costs? It’s ¥1400 to go from Tokyo Station to Narita Airport via Tosai and Asakusa lines (transfer at Nihombashi), and ¥1200 to go from Kansai Airport to Osaka via Nankai-Kuko and Midosuji lines (transfer at Namba). I agree that shinkansen makes more sense than flying in a lot of cases though.

@@bubbledoubletrouble hi, I got it on internet. Yeah, we can go to Narita airport from Tokyo in local trains at cheaper rates but with luggages it becomes hectic. Also, there is direct bus to Narita from Tokyo (besides limousine), however weight of luggage should not exceed certain limit. I was completely unaware of the fact that we can travel from Kansai airport to city in just 500 yen. I stay very close to Haneda airport and next time I should consider using flight to travel to Osaka. Thank you very much for the information. Stay safe

Time is money, money buys time. I flew Jetstar to Hokkaido to experience a "no frills" "à la carte" carrier. I didn't have any luggage but I checked the policy online when I bought my ticket. The Jetstar terminal is FAR from the Narita NEX station. Once you go through security, you have to walk even more. The departure terminal looks like a garage. There's just a kiosk to buy snacks, NO brewed coffee. 90% of the passengers are under 30 years old. If you want to eat something do it before you go through security. If you add all the time up it probably comes to 5 hours (see Rion's video about the train to Narita). The Peach departure area looks much nicer than Jetstar. @ 17:31 "I like it!" You wouldn't if it was raining... Don't you love the "no frills" ramp to where you get on the bus to get to the main terminal? And then you still have to take the train to get to Shin Osaka. On the other hand, if you take the Shinkansen from Tokyo station, you'll be in Shin Osaka in 2 hours 53 minutes, and you just get on the train, no security. There are trains every 15 to 30 minutes. No baggage fee, a good selection of bento or other foods and liquor (even French Burgundy wine!) in the station as well a VAST selection of souvenirs. Finally, if you miss your flight, too bad (more fees to rebook?)! If your miss the train, there'll be another one in 15 minutes, just get on. Time is money, money buys time.

We used Peach to travel from Narita to Osaka in 2018. Leaving from Narita was convenient for us because we started fro my in laws house in Chiba. Personally, I would be reluctant to do that again. At Narita they had a completely separate terminal for the low cost carriers which could only reasonably be reached by shuttle bus. There was still a lot of walking involved and time wasting. The LCC terminal was grotty compared to the normal terminal. Add in the small space between seats and the luggage limits and add ons and the whole thing just becomes not worth it. If you go on the Shinkansen, you can sit in a nice big seat with plenty of room, enjoy the passing view and arrive in a central location wherever you are going. In my opinion, the extra you pay is worth it. It was sad to see Kansai Airport so deserted with many shops closed. The food outlets were good.

I used to think about taking the plane to Osaka from Tokyo but it seemed taking more time than Shinkansen. I stayed close to Tokyo station which was take less than 10 minutes to get there and the took Shinkansen to Osaka for 2 hours and 30 minutes. When I considered to fly to Osaka, it would take 1 hour from Tokyo to Narita and I had to get there at least 1 hour before boarding time and the flight took 1 hour and 30 minute to Kansai Airport and then I would take the train to Osaka station for another 1 hour. Totally, I would take at least 4 hours and 30 minutes. So, Shinkansen is always my first option.

Agreed. The ONLY situation that where I've found LCC worth it is when you're transferring to an international flight. KIX (Kansai International) is more convenient if you're in south Osaka, but the ONLY airlines that fly KIX-NRT are LCCs. Japan Airlines and ANA will usually fly to Itami in Osaka, or Haneda in Tokyo.

I used LCC a lot for quick short business trips where I’d only need an overnight bag and some devices. Once you’ve used it a few times, you’d know their rules and not get caught out by their extra charges. Most continents have many LCCs, Southwest, Frontier and Spirit in the US, Easy and Ryan in Europe, Airasia and CePac in SEasia and Tiger in Australia. They’re an affordable and quick option in most places where there may not be good ground transport links so if planning on seeing the world, best get used to them

Thank you Rion for sharing this jaunt from NRT to KIX. I'm sorry to see the International terminal so quiet too. It appears that the average traveler would break even by taking Shinkansen considering the time and cost it takes to get from downtown Tokyo to Narita, then Kansai into Osaka. The LCC carriers in many countries do grab the attention of travelers who are budget conscious for the low price of the air ticket but ultimately have add-on expenses like you experienced. I think the outstanding network of train service within Japan really makes a strong competitor to the LCC offerings within Japan. I enjoyed your video, thank you for documenting your experience. This will help future visitors to Japan to decide what domestic travel experience will work best for them. 😉

Hotels used to have bathroom scales and such. Quite practical when you are setting up your baggages for tomorrow's check-in.

Terminal 1 was very nostalgic to me as I went through there 3 years ago when I flew into Osaka. I took the Haruka train into Osaka from there.

Reminds me of another low cost airline my younger sister and I have used when we went to Japan - Air Asia. Low cost Flights will always have sneaky additional charges, like baggage, tax, and optional baggage insurance. Glad eventho there was extra charges for you, you still managed to save a bit of money. And you arrived in a shorter amount of time! Every penny , or shall i say yen , counts. My sister and I also had a difficult time repacking when we were leaving Japan to Malaysia because of the baggage weight. I don't think we bought alot of souvenirs, but finally we passed the weight for carry ons! but oh boy after you check in, there are so many souvenir shops around the boarding gates. Very tempting!!! A lot of passengers bought chocolates and other stuff , and when it was time to board, the staff was very strict and told them to stuff it in their bags as much as possible. I was also looking forward for the Mochi , but they gave you oranges instead ;_; I was sad too .

When you arrived at KIX, got off the shuttle bus and up the escalators, I immediately remembered the lockers on both sides of the doors, and imagined myself heading straight to the ticket machine to get my tix for JR Namba Sta.!😆 I've used KIX as my base for Peach flights to travel in Japan domestically so I still remember quite a lot even though it's been 4yrs! Although I've traveled extensively via the shinkansen, but I've used LCC a lot in Japan due to time/schedule/distance constraints - with Jetstar from Narita to Sapporo and Okinawa, and with Peach to travel from Osaka (KIX) from/to Kagoshima and KIX from Okinawa, and even internationally from Busan(Korea) to KIX. Despite the additional shuttle ride to smaller terminals, and walk from plane to terminals, it was still definitely worth it for me as I've always traveled light and hardly ever have any electronic/fragile gear to worry about. I've also booked them early enough that I only paid no more than 6,000 yen for one-way flights (1 checked baggage included). My preferred mode is still the shinkansen, but if there's time/cost/access constraints, LCC are great alternatives (atleast in Japan). 👍

While it gave you extra content,if you add the hotel fee, it was a lot more expensive than taking the train from Tokyo station! It was a new experience for you though so👍 Thanks for taking us along!

I was researching Peachair and Jetstar Japan for my next trip so this video was very helpful. Think I'll stick with the Shinkansen.

We have those small airlines here in the U.S. too. It seems cheap at first but they have fees for everything, like carry-on bag and seat assignment. By the time you add it up, it’s almost the same price; plus you have added stress and inconveniences in my opinion. This video is “a good to know” info for future travel to Japan. I wouldn’t want to take that airline for domestic travel. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your family time.

i too regret taking the plane over the Shinkansen. I plane ticket itself is cheaper than train, but I forgot to take into account, the cost of getting to and from the airport. Also, taking the plane, you have consider the time need to get to and from the airport as well as the need to arrived 2 hours before you flight to check in. That eats up a lot of your time savings as well.

One time when traveling by train I left my piece of luggage in the waiting booth (I was helping a family member get theirs in from the small outdoor waiting area we weren't familiar with and they would not let me get off to get mine as well) and embarked on a 20+ hour train trip with nothing but my purse and some tears. On the way home from my trip I used a shopping bag to carry the few clothing items etc I had been forced to buy and everyone kept complimenting me on how light I "packed". The whole thing was kind of stressful, but at some point I did realize what little I needed on a trip to have good time and have packed way lighter ever since. Tho I don't travel with camera equipment.

I used peach air to fly Hongkong - Fukuoka in 2019. Bought extra check-in baggage and inflight meal (really delicious gyudon I couldn't believe was plane food). I still saved a few hundred bucks compared to flying with a major airline. It was straightforward and got me from A to B. I can't to travel back to Japan again. Thank you for the videos Rion
