Ah yes, the great Californian city of Seattle I actually like this realignment, I think it could be HUGE for the NFL. And it would create SO many rivalries! The simpler version would be: Move the Cowboys to the NFC South, Panthers to the NFC East, Dolphins to the AFC South, Ravens to the AFC East and Colts to the AFC North

I would swap the Bills and Eagles. Philly is pretty close to Baltimore and would have a Pennsylvania rivalry with Pittsburgh and the Bills get to maintain their rivalry with NE and play the other 'New York' teams.

The ONLY thing I would change would be swapping Philly and Buffalo. Then I think it would be perfectly optimized. Keep all the NY teams together (+ NE) and create a new Pennsylvania divisional rivalry.

You’re missing the nuance of having two different conferences with this whole thing. Make the regions a little bigger and split each region into two conferences. Eg. Circle 8 teams, and then split them into two similar divisions in different conferences.

Before the days of every game on cable tv, the large markets that had two team would always be in different conferences so more visiting teams from both nfc and afc could play and be seen in the large markets. NY,SF,LA Chi. Mostly true in baseball and football. There were also territory rites teams had where they would not let another team from same conference into there area

I used to love visiting Seattle California, love how good you are at geography

I would move the Eagles and Bills that’s all just to get the battle of Keystone state and Bills with the New York teams and Pats just makes a little more since but everything else is awesome

Ive always wondered this and came to my own conclusions as well.. i ended up with.... Move Miami to AFC South, Colts to AFC North, Baltimore to AFC East. On the NFC side of things, move Dallas to NFC South, and Carolina to NFC East. Can keep everything else the same.

Yep, this is the best solution if you want to keep the AFC and NFC split around for historical reasons. But if you ever wanted to shift to a West vs East conference split like in the NBA or NHL, then the divisions in the video work quite well.

This was how it was to be when the went to the 8x4 divisions but Jones refused to move out of the east. Modell insisted that his Ravens play against his rivals the Steelers and Kraft kept the Dolphins in the east. The colts and panthers were the odd teams out and have had to deal with the power of the blue bloods. It was actually big news for awhile about how some owners bullied the league.

As a panthers fan who lived in Florida for 20 years I would hate that, but very entertaining for sure, thanks for the content

Divisions are arranged to cast a wider net to all of the country. Having Dallas in NFC East allows fans in the south to care about teams in the East. Totally agree these should be mixed up a bit. Not sure on the Florida division though, i get a weird sick pleasure out of watching Sun tanned Miami players having to travel to Bitter cold Buffalo once a year.

Dang, i would hate for the Cardinals to have to play the Chiefs twice a year. Although, it would be nice to be in an overall easier division.

You need the people coming from out of town. Being close geographically meshes too many people and will have empty or over packed stadiums for particular games. That’s why they have a team outside the general area.

The reason for the distance is so that the rivalries are so much more meaningful and the fan base for each team is larger. If you’re born in New York the team you enjoy is split into thirds, especially so if they’re all in the same division. If you put them into different divisions it makes it where the competition is different for each nearby team.

living in gb wisco, great 20-30 degree average today, wore a sweatshirt and sweatpants pretty nice out, i love it here because its not to hot in the summers and the winters can get cold sometimes.. but then you have an excuse to miss work or school some days! I think it would've been more a bit more interesting with certain limitations, like most (not all) NFC & AFC teams had to stay in their same conference. That's the main reason why you don't have 3 Florida teams in the same division, or teams like Jets & Giants together. A lot of current NFL setup is based on when teams came into the league (like Carolina & Jax together, therefore they wouldn't be in the same division) or old alignments with 5 team divisions. Colts used to be AFC East, Seahawks used to be in the AFC West, Bucs used to be NFC Central, etc. The old divisions were really weird though. People forget the Panthers & Falcons used to be in the NFC *WEST* & Cardinals were in the NFC *EAST.* Anyway, great job though, still enjoyed your take 🙂

The Jets and Giants could not be in a division together because they play in the same stadium, so they could end up having four or five "home" games in a row

The nice thing about an in-city rivalry is instead of having extra home games, you can have those teams play the London and Mexico City Games. Someone has to be the home team in those and lose a home game for the year, but it would work with the teams with basically extra home games.
