Super confused Scotty. You’ve railed on Hyundai AND railed on EVs in countless videos. Now this. Yhis car is both. How many times have you said “Hyundais are TOTAL CRAP.” This car barely made it to your house due to the range issues with AC on. And 53k for all that trouble? And no Scotty rampage about it? You are confusing the crap out of your viewers. Still love the channel though.

@@codezalo5773 I like the look of the I6 and it seems like they've made some advancements over the I5. I still prefer the crossover size. Miles per kilowatt hour vary a lot based on environment. Cold weather and EVs don't mix at all, but I'm down here in Texas. It only reaches the 30s and below for a few weeks out of the year tops. If I was back up in the mid-Atlantic where I'm from, I'd have some really rough mornings. However, there are more public fast chargers there than here. I have a 150 mile roundtrip drive to my office. Right now (May), if I charge to 100%, I get back home with about 42%. In the winter, I'd come back home in the teens.

Personally, I like the retro 80s hatch look of this vs. the Kia EV6. That said Scotty best advice here is to wait for prices to come down. The point about commuting and charging is also important because if you can charge at home range and charging time only matters on road trips. Also, a point about price, I just saw a Jeep commercial, $60k+ for a Grand Cherokee and over $80k for a Wagoneer. Prices in general are insane, but people are still buying.

For EVs, you need to put ceramic window tinting to help cut UV and IR rays into the car - this will help the AC from having to work so hard. This is especially true when the car has to sit outside not running for a while. The tinting does not have to be a dark tint, a 5% tint works as long as it is made to reduce UV and IR.

Ioniq5 AWD Limited owner here. My first EV and best car I've ever had. This vehicle is built on Hyundai's new from the ground up EGMP platform. It's an 800 volt system which is quite rare and unheard of for this price range. This means it can be charged extremely quickly. Not to mention the performance of the platform is capable of approximately 600 HP. My particular car has 320HP and 446LBs of torque which is good enough for 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. Some have hit it in as little as 4.5 seconds. Soon Hyundai will reveal the N version of this vehicle which will hit 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds.

I bought my 2017 Chevy Bolt 3 years ago for 22k. Best car I've ever owned. It's sitting on 60k miles with almost no battery degradation and I've NEVER had to take it in for maintenance. The only thing I've had to replace so far are the windshield wipers. Because of the regen the car has it doesn't use up the breaks like normal cars. It's also nice to charge in my apartment's garage for free and not spend a single dime to drive everyday.

I'm not crazy on running Quakerstate oil for next 3 year's, but my mpg I'm getting is 35city 45 hwy with A/C on as well living in the desert. I made a great buy for $28k. I got it fresh off the boat literally made in Mar. 17 2022 and bought it on Friday the 13th right off the truck no test drive w/14 miles on it, because they were selling them before they came in.

Part is cost, part is features. There's a lot fewer moving parts. The service manual for an Ioniq 5 literally says to check the fluids at 30k, 60k, 90k, and 120k miles. It has a 77.3 kWh battery; at $.10/kW electricity prices, that costs a little less than $8.00 to fill up completely at home. $8.00 buys less than two gallons of gasoline right now.

  • @JustinShidell

@@mikewalters3048 Sure, that's fair. I actually think the ideal scenario for most families is an EV and a traditional (or PHEV) vehicle. 95% of the time is running errands in-town, like groceries, sports, dentists and doctors, shopping, etc. EVs handle that so easily, and you always have a full tank, and it's cheap. Want to tow? Go roadtripping? Go off-roading or adventuring in non-urban areas? Take the gas vehicle. Although, with Ioniq 5 being able to charge in under 20 minutes (assuming you have DCFC available nearby), even roadtripping is a reality. It's only really a pain if you live and/or are traveling to an area without infrastructure (yet.)

Now the lowly 1.5 liter/ 90 cubic inch Honda Fit get 1.5 horsepower per cubic inch! The Ford 289 ci. Nope you might not look all down and dope but it'll get you where you need to go! I love used cars, why? Because by the time I buy them it's already had lots of work done I just got to put the final touches on it and boom it's like new without the problems then i invst the remaining balance now i just bought two new houses , own three different business and my investmnt is still yielding good returns of $130k monthly

Nice review Mr Kilmer. That Hyundai is quite sensible. Standard controls and a screen in your normal line of sight. I'm with you on the ridiculous large centre screen and convoluted menus that seem to feature on the " better" EVs. More than adequate performance it seems. Of course you can take an EV on a long off road jolly. Just tow a diesel genset on a trailer behind you 🤪

Good review. The typical car dashboard is a big plus. I still would never buy it as it's very expensive. Most residential electrical is 15 amp circuits. Businesses typically have 20 amp circuits. Today in Texas, I've received four text and emails to conserve electricity and not use large appliances. Guess what? Charging an electric car is a large appliance.

@L. G. Gas prices are only an issue because "the powers that be" are making it an issue. And most of the people out there who are having trouble with current gas prices I doubt can afford to drop thousands of dollars on a new, POS electric car.

I'm not opposed to electric cars I just wish we would have let them integrate into society more gradually. Someone really needs to come out with a way to convert all these combustion engine cars into electric cars as well. I'm not big on global warming like those idiots bleeding our country are. But being responsible with our resources is practical and good. I would think that eventually we will get to the point where we are swapping out battery packs out of cars and pickups. What most people don't realize is once electric cars become mainstream. We're going to be taxed into Oblivion. Not only will there be a tax on electricity but you will be having to pay tax on every mile you drive. That Legislation has already been approved to some degree

That guy payed a premium over the MSRP because there are not enough EV"s for the demand. Them low life dealers take advantage of that. I would not buy over MSRP There are places where you have to wait more than a year to get one. Yes they are that popular. Not just Hyundai's but all EV's. It will be better in a few years. At that time you will get a 1000Km range car that can charge in 10 minutes. Gas is toast. Nice Video Scotty I actually gave it a thumbs up.

This was really the only other EV that I looked long and hard at before I ordered my Tesla model 3 (in March, 2022). Had a comparably equipped Hyundai would have come in at a more-than-nominal price advantage over the Tesla Model 3, I would have bought the Hyundai. I did not wait, nor am I second guessing what I did. In any case, I enjoyed your review of this vehicle, finding that it validated much of what was on my mind when I made my choice and executed.

We find we’re only plugging in to recharge (at home) maybe once a week. Even then the battery pack is rarely below 40%. Driving around town,or even on highways with lower speed limits, the range exceeds EPA estimated range.
