Cars Movie Description:
The film features an ensemble voice cast of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman (in his final voice acting theatrical film role), Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy, Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Michael Wallis, George Carlin, Paul Dooley, Jenifer Lewis, Guido Quaroni, Michael Keaton, Katherine Helmond, John Ratzenberger and Richard Petty, while race car drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. (as "Junior"), Mario Andretti, Michael Schumacher and car enthusiast Jay Leno (as "Jay Limo") voice themselves.
Set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic talking cars and other vehicles, it follows a hotshot rookie race car named Lightning McQueen (Wilson) who, on the way to the biggest race of his life, gets stranded in Radiator Springs, a rundown town that's past its glory days, and learns a thing or two about friendship, family, and the things in life that are truly worth waiting for.
Development for Cars started in 1998, after finishing the production of A Bug's Life, with a new script titled The Yellow Car, which was about an electric car living in a gas-guzzling world with Klubien writing. It was announced that the producers agreed that it could be the next Pixar film after A Bug's Life, scheduled for a 1999 release, particularly around June 4; the idea was later scrapped in favor of Toy Story 2. Shortly after, production was resumed with major script changes. The film was inspired by Lasseter's experiences on a cross-country road trip. Randy Newman composed the film's score, while artists such as Sheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, John Mayer and Brad Paisley contributed to the film's soundtrack.
Cars premiered on May 26, 2006, at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina and was theatrically released in the United States on June 9, to generally positive reviews and commercial success, grossing $462 million worldwide against a budget of $120 million. The film received two nominations at the 79th Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature, but lost to Happy Feet (but won both the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film). The film was released on DVD on November 7, 2006, on VHS in limited quantities on February 19, 2007, and on Blu-ray on November 6, 2007. The film was accompanied by the short One Man Band for its theatrical and home media releases. The film was dedicated to Joe Ranft, the film's co-director and co-writer, who died in a car crash during the film's production.
The success of Cars launched a multimedia franchise and a series of two sequels produced by Pixar and two spin-offs produced by Disneytoon Studios, starting with Cars 2 (2011).

    I'm going to need you to understand how important the number 43 is in Nascar (and how it relates to this movie). 43 belongs to Richard Petty. The reason it's important they included it, and in Nascar, is that he won 200 races between 1960 and 1984. His career ended in a crash (as did the 43 in this movie). Furthermore, the voice of 43 IS Richard Petty. And yes, that was Mario Andretti, although I don't know why he was there in the first place... He was an Indy driver. Also, those 'car bugs'... They're all Volkswagen. Literally VW "Bugs".

    Cow tipping is actually a myth mainly made by how city folk think country folk act. In fact, it's kind of impossible. Cows can in fact can get up on their own, they don't sleep standing, they're so heavy you can't tip them with even a stronger human body, and they can get mad and hurt you.

    My personal interpretation on why he didn't finish the race - he didn't want a win where one of the other racers was in such a horrible state. It's like if you were running a race against someone who broke his foot, that wouldn't feel like a win. It actually seems to happen in a sports irl, people help their competitors before crossing the finish line. Another assumption is that he didn't want The King to go last. If he had finished the race and then helped him, The King would've been 3rd place. McQueen decided to end up last because he has many more races in his future anyway, but that was The King's last race.

  • @brownwolf5766

    @brownwolf5766

    5 ай бұрын

    I think there is a much simpler explanation. The exact rules are, of course, not known to me in this universe's race, but it is not always prohibited to push another racer. Naturally, this is only allowed as long as you are still in the race. If McQueen had finished the race, he wouldn't have been allowed to push the King over the finish line. The King would have been disqualified for that, so he wouldn't have finished his final race. Edit: Or the Race could have just ended after two of the three racers finished it. So in this case The King also wouldn't have finished his last race.

    27:59, the fire truck "Red" is emotional because the person who was supposed to voice act him died in a car crash before they could record his lines. And they didnt want to re-cast the voice, as he had worked for Pixar for years as an animator, voice actor, director and writer. Cars was the last movie he co-directed and co-wrote, which is why his name also appears at the end of the movie "Dedicated to Joe Ranft".

    I’ve never really understood why this movie gets so much hate. I mean, sure, it’s not as good as Pixar’s best movies like The Incredibles or Ratatouille, but it’s still really good. The movie tells a unique story from Pixar’s usual catalog, focusing on the history of the American motorways and putting that in its own universe. The characters are generally pretty good and iconic, Lightning McQueen’s character arc is really good, the world building is flawed but definitely interesting, the score slaps and making things personal for a second, this might be the first movie I ever watched (or at least the first one I can remember, this was probably around 2007) so it’s always been a little bit special in that way.

    McQueen didn't win the race because he wanted The King to finish the race. There's only 3 cars in this race, so the race ends as soon as 2 cars cross the finish line. Chick was right behind Lightning, so if he crossed the line and won, Chick would've been right behind him & the race would be over. and like he told The King, "I thought the King should finish his last race." He wanted the guy to go out on a high note unlike how Doc Hudson went out.

    Cars is a love letter to Route 66. In preparation for this film, most of PIXAR took a month-long tour of The Mother Road and most of the film's features were inspired by various sights along the route: ~ Jackrabbit "here we are" signs ~ various "Teepee Motel"s ~ The Cadillac Ranch ~ The Leaning Tower of Texas The guy voicing the Sheriff is one of the Route 66 historians they interviewed while researching the film, and hundreds of automotive enthusiasts (NASCAR drivers and announcers, Jay Leno, Mario Andretti, the Car Talk brothers, etc) lent their voices for this movie. Bonus Trivia: John Ratzenberger is PIXAR's luck charm and has had a speaking role in *every* one of their films. During post-production of The Incredibles, they realized that they had left him out of that film - they recorded, animated, and added the final scene with The Underminer in record time so they could still make their release/premiere schedules while not 'jinxing' The Incredibles by leaving Ratzenberger out of film.

    Something I always wondered even as a kid was about Bessie, the machine Lighting McQueen drug around to pave the roads. She clearly has a name, wheels and an engine so is Bessie actually a dead vehicle and they are just dragging around her dead body to fix the roads?? And then also the Junkyard where they locked McQueen up. Its full of inside parts of a car. Is that the equivalent of a bunch of organs lying around?? It's little details like that that make you wonder. I could just be crazy and overthinking it all tho lol

    27:40 those are a reference to a art installation in the real world in the Nevada desert or the Arizona desert. It’s practically a row of Cadillacs from over like 10 years in a row and they were half buried in the ground that was made by a bunch of hippies back in the 50s for fun.

    Never gets old! One of Pixar's best movies! I still remember when I saw this in the theater. To answer your question at 7:48, my favorite Pixar movie is still Toy Story

  • @Devious_Reviews
    @Devious_Reviews5 ай бұрын

    When installing home theater systems for people, I'd pop this disc in to test and tune the audio. Opening whispers contrasted with the revving engines was perfect, followed by a banging on the trailer, then "Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow. Ah, good times. If I wanted to test their subwoofer a bit, the movie was _Tron Legacy_ (c'mon, Daft Punk!). Jeff Bridges' voice was fine but if I really intended to push things, the scene of choice would be from _The Lion King_ (1994) when Mufasa is in the clouds talking to Simba. Damn, James Earl Jones has the "bassiest" bass voice of all time. _Cars_ is my favorite Pixar movie of all time. It just barely beats _The Incredibles_ , _Toy Story 2_ , and _Finding Nemo_ in my opinion because of not only graphics (yes, dated compared to the third movie), but by cast, soundtrack, plot, and character development which I'm *HUGE* on. Chick was just a jackass but methinks it was really Lightning who was the primary antagonist but developed for the better.

    I love this movie...it fills me with all of the feels because it came out when my son was just about to turn 3, and he fell in love with it. We spent MANY hours together watching this and playing with his Cars toys and listening to the soundtrack in my '66 Mustang. As a car guy, I get all of the references in the movie and their amazing attention to detail (like the mesa formations in the landscape being old car hoods, the reference to Cadillac Ranch when you asked if they were rocket ships, the references to real hotels and places along Route 66, etc.). Pixar hit the nail squarely on the head with this move. I'm glad that you finally watched it and enjoyed it so much. And yeah, when Sally is describing the decline of the town because of the interstate, it's a touching moment in the movie, especially when you have seen it as much as I have and actually grow attached to the characters. And in case you were wondering, Radiator Springs is meant to be located somewhere between Gallup, NM, and Kingman, AZ. Also, The Fabulous Hudson Hornet was a real race car back in the 50s when they raced on dirt tracks, which is why his specialty is racing on dirt. Very similar paint job, graphics, and everything. Pixar did their homework.

    "Yall a little TOO far from the interstate" Her point was their town WAS on the main road... Route 66 (which is real btw) was the main vein through several states... until we developed Interstate freeways... and in the case of Route 66's meandering route through the mountainous terrain of the Southwest, the Interstate was a time saver and made Route 66 obsolete, and all these waystation towns along the way dried up.

A.
