I Finally Caught Up To Vinland Saga...
Ойын-сауық
It's been a year since I've been caught up to Vinland Saga, and so I thought it was time to re-read it and catch up. Let's talk about it.

Vinland Saga is one of those manga that doesn’t glorify violence, but makes it more realistic and represents the struggle of Thorfinn as the lives he took begin to haunt him. And I love it for it

My favorite part is Spoiler alert kinda? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . When that one viking dies in a raid and we get his perspective as he dies. At first he's happy thinking he'll go to Valhalla but as his vision and senses fade He begins to panic and wants to tell his friends it's not worth it, fighting and death isn't worth it. But then his thoughts fade into nothing

Chapter 193 was a masterpiece
Vinland Saga to me always felt like the opposite, but also important, side to Berserk In the way that Guts is a protagonist known for never sitting down, to keep going and cut through everything for his goal, to keep struggling Thorfinn is similar through a struggle of, well, not fighting. Guts looks at danger straight ahead taking it head on. Thorfinn looks at danger trying to work around it or remove the conflict entirely. There’s a line when Thorfinn visits his father’s grave “When I was a boy my father said something to me. ‘You have no enemies. There is no one you should hurt’. Now I realize what a noble teaching this is. I want to do right by those words. But, IT’S JUST SO EXHAUSTING.” Thorfinn doesn’t always go through an external struggle every moment of his life but suffers keeping to the ideology to set for himself. That in the world you NEED to stand your ground in what you believe and know is right. Even if the world says otherwise and I love his conversation with Canute because of this clash of Ideology. To not kill and use the first resort that always reduces and takes away conflict. Where Guts is offense style of Thorfinn is defense Guts is an unstoppable force, The Struggler, Thorfinn is the Immovable Object, A True Warrior, like his father 1 took out 100 men 1 took on 100 punches 2 sides of a similar coin

I agree. And to me Thorfinn battle is more harder than Guts. Because the fight to save a life is harder than the fight to kill. I really love Thorfinn character development. From a killer to a savior. So I don't understand why people hate Thorfinn development.
I feel at this point in the manga that Vinland Saga is something very different to its common counterparts of Vagabond and Berserk. It has matured, not through (exclusively) craftsmanship, tone or mentality, but rather purpose. I think that while purpose is interpreted quite literally as one of the biggest themes in all three of these seinen giants and their corresponding authors, in Vinland Saga it has taken a new meaning. Vinland has detached itself from being part of this "trinity" in my opinion. Vinland Saga is like someone who went to art school and devoted themself to becoming a master painter, but is now in their 30's and paints for fun, painting for the people around them, even though their art would single-handedly turn a gallery into a national landmark.

The moment Hilde forgives Thorffin and his reaction was the first moment ever in all those years reading manga that made me cry, I read many sad moments through the years, but none ever felt this real and beautiful, Vinland Saga is none less than a masterpiece.
Been caught up with the manga for a year now. And all I can say is... Welcome to the club brother
The story is so well written that it blows my mind. Even though this manga is almost 20 years there have been almost no hiatus and the mangaka is actually finishing it and I respect him for that.
6:38 That entire scene of Thorfinn being told he has to carry everyone with him to get out of that pit, reminds me of a story I once read about of a man who was stuck in purgatory, when he would try to escape, piles of other dammed souls would hang onto him to try and leave as well, he would try to get them off him, which would only result in him falling down once more and failing to escape. Eventually, he decides to bear the burden and lets them hang on to him as he climbs out, which is when he finally succeeds.
I've read many of the classics of world literature and other classics for many years now and i got to say, Vinland Saga's prologue and farm saga together form one of the best pieces of storytelling i have ever witnessed. I couldn't believe what i was reading half the time. It really has changed my life and that place is only for very few pieces of literature
About time 😉
One of the latest chapters involving Hild (if you're caught up, you know the one) absolutely destroyed me in the best ways possible and reminded me of the strength of the emotional core that's found within VS. Truly a masterclass of character writing and the value of a powerful pay off.
Thorfinn: I just wanna live in peace with myself and my loved ones Thorkell: hehehe, akimbo-axes go brrrrrrrrrrrrr
The "I forgive you" segment of chapter 191 makes me cry
The future seeing chapter was wild can't wait to see it animated
I don’t think any word better describes this manga than the word “saga”. Thorfinn’s story is fully encapsulated by that word. Incredible manga, one of the best I’ve ever read!

I already said it in your community post, but I've been caught up with the Manga for about a year now and I've loved it (watched the anime first). I've been thinking of rereading the series for a while and will definitely once I find the time. Thank you for getting to this series.
My favorite seinen of all time. The anime really did the first arc justice, and I really hope the same can be said for the second. Thorfinn is obviously an amazing character, but it amazes me how Yukimura managed to make such a complicated and charesmatic character in Askeladd in the short time he had on the pages. Both him and Thorfinn are in my top 5 manga characters.

What a beautiful way to summarize this video and the message this story wants to deliver. It really was spot on and hit real deep. Keep up the amazing work, brother❤
I caught up right when I started the school year, and since I am a senior now I noticed how before I would have not been able to enjoy this series as much if I read it a year ago. This is because I thought (at least before reading peakland saga) that I was a fan of action manga only, but this manga proved me wrong really fast. It's my favorite manga ever because it hits so close to home and the characters are all endearing in their own right, even the "villains", who I would argue aren't really villains because I can see why the characters act the way they do and it just feels very realistic. This series really just hit my emotions and has a special place in my heart.
i got caught up to vinland saga when the most recent chapter came out, and hearing you talk about vinland saga makes me reminded why i love it so much
I read Vinland saga as my third manga ever and even today free reading many many more it still stands out as one of the greatest in development and storytelling, one of my favorite manga of all time.
Hild (Hildr) is the name of a valkyrie and means battle in old Norse. Hild is used in many poetic phrases for battle. Old Norse poetry use many poetic phrases to allude to concepts because it makes it easier to write alliterative verse, the poet can pick any number of different phrases to fit with the alliteration instead of being tied down to just a few words. And the archaic set phrases become a poetry in themselves. The main tale about Hildr is a darker version of the rape of the Sabine women where the host of the father and the host of the husband / bride stealer fight and kill each other and are then resurrected in the evening by Hild and then fight and kill each other the next day, every day, forever, until Ragnarök. Hence, Hildr came to embody eternal battle or battle itself. The husband / bride stealer of Hild is Heðin, hence, a kenning for Hild is often used to allude to Hild is often "the woman of Hethin" or "hethins maiden" or some such. Here are some kennings using Hild or allusions to Hild to say "battle" in a poetic way: "leikr Hildar" = Hild's Game = battle "Heðins snotar mot" = to meet Hethin's woman = battle "harðan leikr Hildar" = hard game of Hild = battle So Hild as the name of a revenge cycle is not a bad choice.

Vinland Saga is incredible. Simply incredible. It proves that Change is possible in anyone's life, that you can be better than your past self if you really try hard enough, this is one of those very few stories that are close to my heart
i need to catch up to Vinland saga aswell, all i know recently is that Thorfinn was tryna communicate to those people and he was forgiven, and it was amazing to read
I really like that this hits on that idea of being empty allowing for rebirth. Because how I've heard it is "when you have nothing you can be anything". It's the idea of once you have nothing to lose you have nothing holding you back. It is both a comfort to those going through stuff and also a reevaluation for those that find materialism losing it's luster. In the case of the latter you find that your possessions aren't what defines you as a person, you learn that you don't even need a roof over your head. The only thing we truly require is food, once that baseline is achieved we can put all our energy into achieving our goals, whatever those may be. The way I break it down is saying "say your goal currently is to relax on a beach, you can achieve that" and people like to respond you need a car, gas, etc. I then slap my legs and go "nope, you've always had transportation sorted, your legs are all you need".
I'm not completely caught up but I don't have much to catch up on but this journey of Thorfinns and everyone else along the way is so damn great it's criminal
Thorfinn & Hild parallels are my favourite parts of the manga.
Lets goo I was waiting for this video
Mask, I just want to say this is my num. 1 favourite anime channel. And your why, I can tell how these stories have impacted U and how much U care for them as artworks
Yes it is monthly. I am very much enjoying this arc even though it is slow arc, i love these small moments of chacter interaction.
Loved the vid man
I just finished it about a month ago and it really pushed me to think about how I was dealing with my anger and hatred through vengeful thoughts and chasing things that would aid in that drive, when Thorfinn began talking about the “first option” it felt like a wake-up call. It hasn’t completely changed how I do things all that much, but I do stop and think before I get absorbed in my anger and might lash out and think about that first option.
I just rewatched the first season to be ready for the second season and then I remember the manga from about a year ago. As I saw the paths of each of the characters, and how much it paralleled with Berserk in different ways.
This series peaked for me with the battle at Jomsborg. Was not expecting it to be that great
during the farm arcs for vagabond and vinland saga, I always remember the quote "it's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war"
By the time you made this video, a conflict happened which is so incredibly written for the stakes. I'm so stoke to what happens to the ending of this series
Haven't read the manga yet, but the final scene from season 1 is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen in an anime.
I'm too scared to watch this for spoiler reasons, as I'm reading this manga myself at the moment. I'm reading through the infamous Farm Arc. I'm absolutely loving every second of it and it's been incredibly addicting to read. It's been written and paced so well, that it's very easy to read. It's smooth to read through. Vinland Saga's anime is the first anime that made me want to get the manga to continue the story, now that says hell of a lot about a story. I'm nowhere finished with it (I'm on book 7), but it's already special to me in that regard. Berserk is my first ever manga that I started to read and Vinland Saga is my second. I'm reading both of them alongside each other to an extent and it's amazing to go through two absolute peak stories at the same time. Masked-Man, I'll be watching this when I've finished the story myself. Very much looking forward to it.
I BEEN WAITING ON THIS
I've only read the Prologue as of now but Im hyped to get to the rest of the manga sometime soon especially Farmland. But Masked when's the Fata video coming??? Been waiting on that one for a while now.
i stopped reading for a hot min to let the series build up and it was almost painful to hear how great its gotten and not be in the know but i always was like nah nah nah just a lil longer and im back on the sattle. but now i think its the perfect time to catch up. i love me some vinland saga.
wish we could've seen some of the journey to constantinapole too, some SoL some romance would be fun break from all the shit happening for me as a gintama lover, its good rn either way, i just want him to put ivar in his place
Vinland Saga changed my life and the way I think. Farmland arc is my favorite arc. I know how Thorfinn feels, I felt the same way. He truly is a role-model.
Great manga, I’m up to date with it as well. The anime is one of my top 10 favorite anime.
this story is so great and relateable on so many human levels.. I cried when Hild forgave Thorfinn, one can just imagine how much that meant for both of them..

Gudrid best girl. She does so well to Thorfinn. Their relationship is not forced at all. I just wish we got to see it a bit more lol
Farmland arc was just the best where we see thorfinn's peak character development So goood!
14:51 yes yes yes yes, this is one of the top moments in the series, like what other manga does that
I am getting a thorfinn tattoo next month I can't wait Vinland saga is my favorite manga
Still haven't read past the first volume (like 5+ years ago) so I'll have to come back to this video another time but I've always wanted to read it. As much as it's been thrown next to Berserk, I've always gotten the sense that it's far more grounded, with maybe less extreme lows and less fantastical highs. Curious to see if that holds up.

I need to start reading it again now that the anime is back i really liked the switch in thorfinns character tho after the time skip
The way Vinland saga explores the cycle of human violence and how it ultimately just destroys everything around you is rivaled only by the likes of Berserk Both the characters and the story itself shift their themes from revenge and the brutality of war to that of pacifism and personal developement Its honestly an absolute treat with the artwork tying it all together
Gotta start this soon! Need a good seinen

Fun fact if people didn't know. Vinland is a Danish word, meaning wine country. It's the name the Danish Vikings gave America when they first discovered it. I'm actually Danish and didn't even realise the name was Danish until a friend told me😅
I really hope that despite how slow the recent chapters are, that Yukimura is setting up for a big finish for the ending of Vinland Saga.
Finished volume 12 and waiting for the next one to finally sail to Vinland
My God, the anime did everything perfect as the source material, and the episode we have this week hits so much harder! Arnheid's death hurts me so much 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
people barely talk about vinland saga. thank you for this video.
Fantastic series.
tell your brother to get at it!!
I think hild repeating herself a lot reflects thorfinn saying "i am only doing this in order to have a duel with you askeladd" "i am the one who will kill you askelad" and those things. She has her inner conflicts and they are showed so little comapared to thorfin because she is a side character
when floral fury came on i liked the video Wasked man
I think hild i aa really good foil, and support. Like it makes sense with er traumatized and it would be naturally to not forgive him, even as she obviously supports the thorfin she obviouly likes and trusts, he just also, pretty sure her way to bak him up on staying on his path and not slipping up. Yeah its one phrase, but it changes meaning throughout the story in that she wants him to suceed, and back him up an has his back.
Same just finally caught up. Now I know why it’s called a saga. Season 1 was emotional especially at the end and it was only a prologue.
Yes Vinland saga is peak. Yes if you're young, then you're not gonna be able to understand the deeper meaning behind every character. Although you have an amazing plot and development you can enjoy and grow from. Im 16 and I caught up to the Vinland saga manga when I was 15 and it became my favorite. I believe I'm gonna continue to love this manga more and more as I grow older and as I become more wiser. (yes, I admit that I'm not socrates level wise (yet :) ), just because i read seinen manga, also I don't believe age in number always signify intellect). Vinland saga manages to have a very diverse cast while still having parallel characters. And the fact that every important character including villains have their own personal achievement, just shows how important the characters are and how well it can positively affect a good story. The manga is ending soon i believe, and I wish the best for it. The manga still has a few very important conclusions to make and I believe once they have been made, it's in the GOAT-debate.
Still haven't read the classics but it's in my top 4 right now
Vinland saga has moments that can truly stick with you. Arnheid's death messed with me for a while. The mood of the story shifts as the story goes on. I believe it's meant to reflect Thorfinn's change. Like, comedy is there in the prologue, but it is uses more liberally as the story continues. That's good storytelling, in my opinion.
Vinland Saga is a must read
vinland saga is actually so beautiful and i have enjoyed following it and seeing how it unfolds. but i am very sad to say that its coming to an end, the author has said its the last arc and this conflict is going to end it i belive. heads up if u dont want like spoilers btw in history thorfinn was a real person and theyre pretty accurate with historical figures, in history throfinn was the first man of european descent to have a child in north america but sadly he never returned because he was killed by natives and it all is lining up pretty well right now
I’m so scared reading new chapters of Vineland saga. I only want good things to happen to Thorfin. He’s been through so much. So I don’t want to see bad things happen to him anymore.
So Mask finally decided to catch up on peak?? Rare mask W
Right after I said a few days ago we need more Vinland saga fans. Love to see it.
Vinland Saga is sick, if your younger brother doesn't wanna read it that's absolutely his loss.
