I Finally Bought My Grail Jacket...Was It Worth It?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Nikelab ACG 2-in-1 is one of the best-known techwear jackets and included in countless images since it released in 2015. I finally cemented my consoomer status and managed to get hold of one 😎
While its reputation is well-founded and there are a lot of great things about this jacket, never forget that for every cool piece of clothing there are alternatives.

Really appreciate the sincere reflection in this video. I always struggle deciding on what’s a “reasonable” price to spend on clothing. This brings up some great points and I hope you continue to enjoy your grail/future collections!

Thanks! Pricing is a hard one too - it's tempting to spend over the odds on some stuff out of desperation for a particular item that you really want, but if anything that only makes any potential underwhelming feeling worse

I'm the same with items for my Transformers collection. I see something I really want, take months pursuing it, finally find one, and... it sits on a display shelf. The chase is often better than the catch.

Can sympathise with that for sure! I think lots of collection-based hobbies are similar. Stuff like retro gaming for example - I can't imagine many collectors actually play their games regularly, even the ones they've dropped $100+ on

@@ThisIsAntwon some of us are old enough to have those games still and not be collectors just hoarders. I was originally going to sell my retro games but I have a child now and it would be a bit pricey to replace if I ever wanted the child to try some of the games her dad played. There is always expectation and reality and I get the struggle. In reflection I'm actually pretty nihilistic. For me I have things that are grails but it boils down to it doesn't truly matter to me anyway. It's just a fun distraction.

So glad you got this for yourself! I think a lot of us can relate to both this grailed-purchase high, and then the low. On the subject of branding and PR, and us subsequently liking it or not, I think it's about intention in the product. I buy some high-end stuff when I find things I like, and it is almost never motivated by functionality like teachwear. But it's like a tap on the cheek, I think, in that if it was meant as a slap, the one providing it hits harder, it's offensive, we're offended, but if it was meant as a caress, same motion, but softer, we like it. It's the thought that counts.

Supercool video Antwon! You are really good at guiding us in your thought processes and thus showing us your vulnerable side (up to a point). Thank you for doing that. Though I have to disagree with the Dume jacket looking better on you. The construction of the Dume has it folding in weird places on your chest and sleeves, and I much prefer the ACG's fit on you. Last, since we're sharing, I bought my personal grails earlier this year after tracking down a pair in eastern europe. No regrets whatsoever! I paid a fair price, and knowing that the chances of ever finding another pair are practically 0%, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Our grails partly define us, they are a reflection of our passion, and I am very happy to have a physical representation of what moves and motivates me.

Liking the philosophical approach. The hunt is what keeps you addicted. I remember buying my first couple of grail pieces and being super happy, feeling like a rockstar when wearing them... but at a certain moment it doesn't feel as special anymore. Then you start looking at even more exclusive and/or expensive items. I would personally take these factors in consideration; 1 can I afford it? 2 do I need it? 3 how versatile is it?

I enjoy every video you put out Antwon, but this one… perfection. How to move on from that?! Much like moving on from copping a grail?! Thankfully, you will… we all will. Seriously enjoyed the philosophy behind purchasing an item long sought after. It’s a reflection we rarely hear spoken and for those of us who both love material items AND have souls, it’s refreshing and comforting to know these are feelings and honest conflicts others have as well! Cheers, mate- long time watcher, first time commenter! Carry on!

I really appreciate the video and especially the thoughts at the end. While looking for approval and positive feedback is a totally understandable reason I as a newbie in techwear fashion have always seen thisfocus on certain hyped pieces very critical. Techwear seems to have reached a point where a big lot of people wear the same items with minimal differences to each others fits because they know that these are "THE items" that will get the most positive feedback. I really wish there would be more ersonality shown and individuality expressed in the fits. We all should be more open-minded and be constantly on the search for new technical advances - that is what makes the difference between techwear and hype-focused mainstream fast fashion.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with spending a lot on something you want to have, it's a consumer world after all. Recently I got the Acronym x Air Presto Mid Racer Pink off of GOAT, cause I've wanted those for years and the only thing that was stopping me was they were around 400 euro new. It may not sound that much, but sadly Im in Bulgaria where we don't work with euros, so for me it was 850bgn without shipping on a 1.3k paycheck. Things finally are sorta working out for me, so saved up for 2 months, forked up the grand total of 1.25k bgn (620-630euro) with shipping + imort fees and tbh I don't regret it at all, if anything it actually showed me that sometimes showing some patience can still work out at the end, cause I didn't rush to get them when it would have put me financially in a tight spot.

I will say that as cool as the Jacket looks, I will agree that when I saw that other jacket on you...it definitely looked cooler, and less....costume like...idk. Don't get me wrong....the other one is amazing looking but my drawback with it is the almost costume look of it.

Well.... that got a little sad boi at the end lol. I was happy that i waited till spring to pick up the veilance monitor for HALF the price. The people at the store watched me try it out so many times that when I got it they actually cheered lol. Similarly though, after my debates over want and need.... and capitalism doom I glad I got it. it'll last a long time.

Congrats, man! To me the Monitor is one of the best pieces ever, and it was my personal grail for a long time, too, until I got it for half the price on sale. I love it to death.

There is no need. Only want. And want is not good or bad exclusively.

It's a self-healing cutting board to protect surfaces when using a craft knife, but works great as a video backdrop! Not sure exactly where I got it now but somewhere like Amazon will have them for sure

I bought my first Stone Island jacket in May, and I've worn it every weekend since. Even had a row with the missus in the shop, who obviously didn't want me to drop £400 on one jacket. But I've had one eye on a Stoney for approx 20 years, and thought f*ck it, why not?!
