Sound travels better off of and through most liquids. Oil would likely mute it a bit, but it would be a sloshy mess to fill it enough to contact the PCB or generate a higher pitch keystroke sound from reducing the effective size of the sound cavity. But hey, who isn't down for a sloppy, wet keyboard? hahaha

Kinda cool fact: one of the chemicals used to make aerogel, tetramethyl orthosilicate, is basically pure sand but in liquid form. It reacts with water to turn into its solid form, and becomes super super fine, but is insanely dangerous. This is because if you get it in your eyes it reacts with the water in your eyes and turns solid, but does so under the surface of your eyeballs, and causes permanent blindness. Also if you inhale it then it reacts with the water in your lungs, and having sand in your lungs is bad (shocker).

@@KukaiTori its extremely brittle so it crumbles easy. Its safe if you get it on you, it just likes to absorb the oil and moisture from your skin. Just wash your hands after and you're all good. It only hardens when you make it (manufacture). When it absorbs liquids and oils, it expands slightly, turns to more of a white color and basically turns to dust when you touch it or try and move it. If it gets in your eyes you just need to rinse it out well and you're all good.

Honest thoughts from someone who isn’t in the keyboard scene and only clicked because I wanted to see something done with aerogel (thanks a LOT) here’s what I thought of each noise. No foam- my favorite of the bunch. Foam- sounds exactly the same as no foam but like the audio was pitched up. Deeper sounded better. Aerogel- sounded akin to our crazy neighbor Caryn from Las Vegas who would tap her acrylic fingernails really fast on our ceramic counter when she got really into talking very loudly about something that made her anxious. A bit too solid sounding and gave me shivers in a bad way. (Does this count as childhood trauma?) My iPhone keyboard clicks through my headphones as I type this message that will get me hate probably- 10/10 😂 BUT- whoever this guy is, I like listening to him and his humor more than I like listening to the keyboards. My computer is a 2001 dell with a 20 year old crayola keyboard so maybe I’m biased to the nostalgic plasticky tapping sound.

I like metallic sounds so no foam sounds pretty good to me, but aerogel is just clearly the best for thock

Hi Hipyo! I recently started customizing my red dragon keyboard. I went for the Akko cs switches.I'm looking for keycaps now. The keyboard is 80%. Do you have any suggestions which are budget-friendly?Thanks.

Maybe it’s the video, maybe it’s my phone speaker, maybe it’s my ears, but I’m a musician and don’t hear ANY difference whatsoever between foam and no foam. Still a satisfying keyboard.

For burger mount you're supposed to put o-rings both sides of the screw so that the plate doesn't touch either the screw heads nor the case metal.

for _sure_ the aerogel. Holy shit the difference is huge. But it's interesting because it doesn't sound like it just "dampens" the sound, it actually changes the resonance characteristics of the sound, and where the fundamental frequencies of the (switches? board?) are located. Especially obvious on the bigger keys like spacebar

It's aluminum... it was discovered by an American scientist and he named the element aluminum. The Oxford Dictionary decided it didn't sound "proper", and added the extra vowels, making it sound pretentious and terrible. The entire controversy started with self-imposed British superiority... fun stuff.

I want you to make a rustic 1700s pioneer keyboard out of wood and cast iron, then fill it with hay and pemmican. Now please.

Challenge idea! but not much of a crazy idea, but you should compete with some of the keyboard KZreadrs you know and try building any movie or TV series based keyboard and see which one is the best, again not such a crazy idea but that's my suggestion for a video Challenge.
