I Dyno Tuned My Turbo Ls1 Trans Am. Here's How Much Horsepower It Made.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Does my new engine still make 1000 Horsepower as my ONE K HP License Plates would suggest? In this video I finish up the tune on my 2001 Turbo Trans Am WS6. I normally tune this car at the drag strip but going to the dyno is fun so here we are. Enjoy!

I built a C5 with an LQ9 stroked to 403 and a D1SC instead of a turbo , tons of methanol. Made 856rwhp , 20* of timing , 18psi (head unit maxed out) , and 12.5 afr. It made like 801 at 11 afr and I kept leaning it out a little , watch for KR in the tune , check plugs , repeat. Eventually got to 12.5 afr without knock but was scared to go any leaner. Something about all the methanol allowed for a leaner afr than expected.

Great videos. I’ve watched many on these Fbodies and yours is the only one I’ve sub’d to. Even better that your local. I’m 5 miles from 66. Currently building an iron 5.3 into a cheap LS1 for my 94 Formula T56 project car (didn’t want to deal with emissions). Do you like the 88mm turbo? I’ve been looking at turbo maps and it’s really involved to figure out which one I want. Also who’s cam did you go with? I see your putting together a build video, hopefully that will cover some of my questions I have. Where do you run 9’s without a cage? 41? Keep up the great work, and the videos coming. Sucks that it’s time to put it to bed for the winter.

Thanks! I love the turbo on this car. Don't go too crazy looking at maps and going nuts. There are so many proven combos out there its insane. Get yourself a nice borg warner turbo. Not sure what you can fit but get a hold of Dr.Turbo and he can match something up for you. My turbo is basically a copy of a PT88, which is another good route. My cam is a custom grind spec'd out by Martin Smallwood. Google his name and you can follow and message him on FB. You are going to want to go with a custom cam tailored to your setup. I run 9's with no cage at Byron Dragaway, although I haven't been there this year. I have heard they are becoming more strict but honestly I don't think Ill run the car again with no cage. Alex

You can for sure get them tuned. It costs a lot more but man those things move with a simple tune.

he's not "guessing" power. He's just familiar with the formula trap speed = 234*(BHP/weight)^1/3 (that's a cube root). It works every time. You've said it weighs 3900 lb (you don't say if that's with you in it). 1000 bhp should let you run 148.66 mph. the best ET would be 9.17 seconds (1363/mph).

Curious, what did they charge for the 3 pulls? I’m about 45 mins away from them.

In your case you really just need a tune for it to run properly. I wouldn't beat on a car with an aftermarket cam and no tune. Did you do fuel injectors as well? Thanks for watching Alex

On the plate - LOL why have a sleeper car which you’ve done a killer job of building - and then a billboard on the tags. Also we all know RWHP not crank tells the truth, did it pull 1024 RWHP ........ let’s go back to the dyno with some timing and boost :)

Nice! I have an 04 GTO making 741HP that has burnt and broken 8 4L60’s! The last 2 were guaranteed for 1000hp! Over $14k in transmissions! Finally went with a rather stock $1200 4L80 that has 2 trouble free summers! 1st gear ratio has killed my 60’s from 1.51’s to 1.8’sb as one of the penalties that’s more than made up for with reliability. How in the world have you gotten a 60 to survive?

Oh and 23 degrees without meth with zero knock. 28 total with 14gph two step. 18 degrees initial from my stock bore and stroke LS6 from an 02 Vette. I sold my 14,000 mile 02 black on black WS6 for this GTO 8 years ago without regret.

I didn't think it would make anymore than it did before because the setup had not changed. Honestly you probably are at the point of diminishing returns with those cathedral port heads and LS6 intake. If you really want more go with CNC LS9 heads and a FAST 102/102.

It really depends on what you want to do with the car as well. I don't get the sense that you are chasing a number or ET with this car. Just enjoy a 850 RWHP driver and have a beer.

Yea exactly. My goal was to have a real 9 second street car that wasn't gutted and this is exactly that. Not the fastest thing in the world now days but still insane for me. To take this thing to the next level would require many many upgrades like the transmission, fuel system, turbo. Alex
