It's not as difficult or risky as you make it sound to hold them yourself safely. As long as you hold the seed phrases and have backups of those seed phrases, in waterproof, fireproof safes, the idea that someone could break in and take them is pretty silly. The odds of that happening are astronomical. Much lower than a brokerage account going out of business, or someone within the company ripping you off. Keeping backups of the seed phrase securely in a trusted family members home or somewhere outside your home, would allow you to recover your assets in the event of catastrophic event or even if they were stolen. Remember, your crypto isn't on the Ledger. Only the keys are. If it disappears or is destroyed, an extra blank Ledger on hand and your seed phrases restores them to that Ledger. I think bank like custody will eventually be a good idea. But right now, there aren't enough protections to make me feel safe.

That's a somewhat naïve perspective. People who advocate for cold storage wallets often fail to consider the real danger in literally being the only line of defense between your assets and bad actors who might want to take them. Basically, you would need to make sure no one knows you have the cold storage wallets because if they did (and if these assets reach the kind of value we are all hoping they do) then you'd be in a very precarious position whether you realize it or not. They don't need to be able to break into a safe or recover a seed phrase. All they need to do is snatch you up and have you provide the seed phrase. Don't think you'll talk? What about when they put a gun to your head? Still playing the tough guy? What about when they start cutting off your fingers one by one? Maybe they get your wife or your kid and start with their fingers? Do you see the problem with self-custody now?

And I understand and agree with Lewis' plan but I'm still not sure where....thinking about Itrust Capital as I believe it is built on blockchain and operated by knowledgeable crypto personnel and maybe not so difficult to access....of course do more research. My understanding is that your crypto is not actually stored with C&B as it is with regular exchanges but is stored with a custodian so your assets are not a part of any bankruptcy assets

Lots of rich companies do it and often walk away from it because they were government plants and shell companies the whole time or got corrupted over time by some avenue (usually via coercion, lawfare, or sometimes even force). If you knew how many so called private companies were actually covert or clandestine govt shell companies, you'd shit your pants because most companies are especially in lucrative sectors like crypto. There is no limit to crime. The criminals always find the way and lots of criminals have the positions of power to get away with it. Look at the presidents. Look at Gary Gensler. The biggest theives in history are the ones people trust to hold their money, yet people keep doing it. If you don't want to feel so powerless over the custody of your assets without fooling yourself then all your assets should be physical and in your possession. And you should have lots of guns and muscle to protect it. Otherwise, if you do anything digital, get comfortable with some level of uncertainty because the criminals run the world. That's why every crypto holder should be matching their crypto holdings with gold and silver 1:1. The fact is gold will always be safer than anything digital. Less returns potentially, but guaranteed less risk. Regarding Ledger, the fact Ledger is actually coming out and talking about it as a possiblility makes them safer if anything. The rest of the custody providers are acting like it's not a possibility, but it absolutely is for every single one, which makes them very suspect to anyone who actually knows how things work.

Asset management is about understanding what is actually creating or enabling the security of those assets. That means knowing or trusting the policies and methods used by the likes of Ledger or Uphold or Caleb & Brown to secure your crypto or back it like how Uphold has publicly posted their reserves to be transparent and knowing that uphold doesn't lend out customer funds, etc. (like a bank does).

I recently got Keystone Pro. So far I love it. You can use the Keystone to roll up your own seed words and it will calculate the 24th word for you. Very cool. Keystone is fully open source as far as I know.

Joining the Mastermind is just another associated cost that doesn't guarantee anything other than lining that dude's pockets, pass. Institutional custody should be available once the switch is flipped. Heck, the government may even make institutional custody mandatory in order to participate in the market. Be fearful.

The greatest risk is yourself loosing the keys. I definitely see Ledgers point, and the security is always based on the seed phrases, doesn't matter if you have Ledger, Tresor or else, the one is more fancier than the other. I think the stock exchanges use these seed phrases too behind the scenes.

Surely ledger would be liable and have to replenish funds if they got hacked due to a flaw in their product security, or have we waived our right by agreeing to software updates?

Also allows you to insure your assets. Banks wont lend against cold storage with no fail safe recovery.

Bought my ledger on your advice. But only time it’s ever plugged in is when I’m depositing crypto on to it. Never done any upgrades just very basic never plugged in a second longer than it takes to store.

@@Beyondthedreamofreality yes you can but be careful about this method cos if your phone/laptop is hit with a malware, it could be subject to a "man in the middle attack"... meaning the address you copying and pasting might be the attacker's public address and not yours. Always use the trusted display on ledger to verify the addresses before you hit send!

Neither do I! Disappointed with Ledger after the whole "seed word" issue... Loved the device too!

Caleb&Brown and Fireblocks have insurance and Fireblock shard. So no sure why you need Polysign?

Trezor or Ledger? Surely kept in a Faraday pouch the Ledger nano x is safe 🤔 If its only used to purchase crypto and hodl and not to trade, then how do you get safer than that?

Good info, tho majority of the people probably won't even have 100k of xrp or even 50k. Thus poly and other's wont even noticed due to a low assest holding. Personally i have nanox, d cent & coinspot. Where its spilt between them. It's more likely other's r doing the same.

Ledger Recover says you have to provide them with your private keys/passphrase. This doesn't sound like a back door if you're handing over your keys in case you lose them. That's on you.

I ditched my Ledger Nano X for a Keystone Pro and an Ellipal Titan. Get the Ellipal. Thank me later. A lot of Keystone’s 10,000 supported coins are shitcoins. I liked the fingerprint reader, but that’s it. I keep my XRP on it, and everything else on the Ellipal.

At the end of the day it’s personal choice, there is a risk if you do self storage and 3rd Party storage, neither are failsafe.

Hi Lewis am I right in thinking that all investment recipients mentioned have an affiliate program and connected link in your video descriptions to receive a percentage from all new customers that invest in said recipients - that one still has love for, or not? Could that be the primary reason they are illustrated in word and clickable description?

I know this is off point. I will wait until the next bull run. I will tell you this, myself and a lot of other people if XRP does not break all-time highs at this next start of the next bull run there's a problem. I have to confess I'm a little upset that it's not sitting at at least $1.50 still being manipulated this is unreal. They have 24 months to make it all happen that's it at the end of the bull run should be sitting in the double digits and stay there.

The more people or businesses you get involved with your assests, the more risk you take on. How many times have we heard about a great company turning out to be a corrupt one in the end. People are involved with running companies, and unfortunately, people can not be trusted.

So your reason isn't because Ledger is unsecure do you're going to Ellipal because of the air gap. I get it. I'm leaning toward a switch because of the air gap really. The backdoor issue with Ledger is because of the update.

So you start off with a "Back Door" scenario to Ledger that could hack your Nano X and remove all your crypto then downgrade having your own key and seed phrase then push a brokerage firm to send your crypto? Are you getting paid for this? No disrespect meant just putting the dots together...?

Fun Facts: Good luck but I trust NOBODY with my XRP, I don't care if they say it was sharded 1000 times. Greed, fraud, hacks and leaks happen all of the time.
