I just made one of these and it's brilliant! I have to admit that reconstructing something without plans was a challenge, but so worth it. Now I have an incrementally adjustable circle cutting jig that can cut from 5" to 23". Yeah, I could have made it 4 to 24, but I volunteer in a hobby shop and our stuff gets chewed up. Less than 5 inches can easily be done with cutting waste and smoothing on a sander. More than 23 inches and you'll have to use the jig saw in our shop. The size I made is safe and easy to use and I can take things I learned and apply to other projects. The current jig is wonky, way too large for the deck of the largest bandsaw, and isn't accurate. This will be such an improvement over our old, non-functional and frankly unsafe jig. Thank you for posting! And thank you for the exercise in rational thinking (with math). That incremental mechanism will be perfect for many more jigs!

Essentially a cross-slide with integral pivot for arc cutting. Nothing to patent but a great home project. Very nice

You should add in some type of wedge or pin locking device to stop the jig from drifting. You can see it move just slightly and causes the one circle to be a smidge out of round.

That is an interesting construction. It hasn't been patented because one of the requirements of a device that might be patented is that "It is not obvious to someone skilled in the art". You are skilled in the art of wood working and you came up with this device but it isn't much different than some of the devices used to position materials in a CNC machine. It does on fact look very much like the mechanism used to position the work head in a CNC machine. It just happens to use wood as the main material and components. By the way, that tool you made is really neat. The US Patent Office has granted patents to devices that were previously patented by others many years before and it is obvious to me that the patent filers simply copied a previous art. A perfect example is the patent by Ferdinand Porsche for a trailing arm front or rear suspension where ball joints were used to locate the wheel hub where it attached to the trailing arms. This was used in the Audi Grand Prix machines of 1930. This morphed later into the front trailing arm suspension used in the Volkswagen Beetle where a king pin or pins replaced the horizontal ball joints. In about 1960 or there about two engineers working for one of the American auto companies applied for and were granted a patent also for horizontal ball joints in the same manner as the Porsche patent of the 1930s. How did this happen? It is quite simple in that the patent examiner was too lazy to do an adequate job of searching the existing records. Even before computers there were ways of searching the patent records to find similar patents in the past.. If you are interested in how things that should not be patented get patented see the Dr. David Martin interview associated with the Lockdown Video. You may find the same interview or one similar if you look for the interview between David Martin and Reiner Fuelmich on BitChute. David has some really interesting things about our patent system.

He should have until 12/12/2022 (one year from public disclose) to file a non-conditional patent application assuming he hasn't profited from this or any derivative. To everyone but the inventor, this is prior art from the day of publication.

You need to put an expansion joint in the table slot runner and tighten it up when making a circle. Keeps it from moving back and forth. The 2nd cut shows the table sliding forward and ruining the circle.

Ingenious jig for cutting the circles. Certainly makes life easier for this type of project.

Отличная идея! Люблю такие приспособы из фанеры. Недооцененный в России конструкционный DIY материал на самом деле. Чтобы повысить точность, надо обязательно фиксировать протяжку после запила ленты на нужную стартовую позицию в круге. Иначе (на ленте, на диске еще прокатывает, хотя делать круги диском опасная затея) чревато напортачить за счет смещения этой приспособы в канале протяжки, особенно когда внимание сосредоточено на кручении. Что у вас и происходит на 7:38. Ну, думаю, что этот конструкционный недостаток уже давно устранен. Ось из фанерки, что держит опорное кольцо можно сделать побольше, или вообще заменить на подшипник. И еще небольшая идейка для универсализации конструкции: В опорном кольце (то что вы приклеиваете) можно сделать делительные отверстия, чтобы пилить многогранники. Причем на разных радиусах наделать разное количество, три орбиты, думаю будет достаточно: 5,6,8 граней (отверстий на орбите соответственно). Позволит делать так же 3 и 4 грани (6 и 8 через пропуск). А в портальчике, в котором торчит ось вращения сделать на этих радиусах тоже отверстия для шпильки. Когда надо напилить многогранники (внезапно!), вставляем шпильку на нужный радиус и насаживаем опорное кольцо на шпильку, пилим соответствующую деталь выполняя просто протяжку, крутить уже не получится, шпилька зафиксирует деталь в требуемом положении. Торец приспособы, который работает у ленты можно было сделать тоже из фанеры, На опорные функции это особо не влияет, а портальчик можно было и поближе к ленте придвинуть. Либо же портал сделать таким, чтобы опорное кольцо выходило за его край на пару сантиметров. И эти пару сантиметров выбрать фрезером из того дальнего торца. Тогда опорное кольцо можно почти до самой ленты выдвигать.

You can do this technique without the Rube Goldberg device; that is why it hasn't been patented. I guess you could contend this makes it faster on doing multiple, different radius cutouts but you'd have to justify the time and cost to construct over using some scrap wood, a couple of clamps, and a centering pin (cutoff nail) as the platform.

Pomysł bardzo fajny , ale wymaga trochę poprawek : zmiany mocowania nakrętek na zawleczki zamiast wbijanych gwoździ , oraz zmiany położenia tego bolca do mocowania obrabianego koła bliżej zewnętrznej krawędzi i zmniejszenia grubości tej krawędzi będzie można robić mniejsze koła . sama koncepcja bardzo fajna

К тому же, там где зашплинтованные гайки , нужны для них металлические пластины - упоры для гаек. Деревянная поверхность быстро изнашивается от трения гаек.😁

That's a great tool. It appears it has to be backed-out to enter the material and then set to the right radius blindly. Adding a couple locking nuts to the side of the slide opposite of the adjustment drive could allow the proper radius to be preset by dead-nuts. Then the material can be backed-out to start, then the slide set to the dead-nuts for the radius cut accurately.

This is a jack screw principle. Used for many applications including extending & retracting flaps & other controlled moving wing surfaces in an airplane

It can't be patented because it was in old books and is an old concept. We have been doing this and making bowls on table saws also for 100 years

I never really read video descriptions. The whole time I was trying to figure out what the heck is he making. Not even sure why I was so intrigued. I don't make anything. But I like to see how things work. When the end came and I saw him use it, thus revealing to me what it was.....mind blown. Awesome Video

Для патентования нужна мировая новизна. Если это никто не видел, это ещё не означает, что это где-то уже всё описано и предоставлено для неограниченного ознакомления любым людям. А патент нужен только для одного, запрещать производство другим производителям в данном государстве, где выдали патент!! Знать надо азы патентного дела !

А не проще ли фрезером ну или просто лобзиком выпилить какие надо кольца? Ну если только надо этих колец миллион, то да, такая приспособа может сократить время…

I cringed when a threaded rod was compressed in a metal vice. This likely messed up the threads on the remaining piece. Clamping between two pieces of wood would prevent the likelihood of thread damage.

Ничего нового.. - такие приспособления любой мастер изготавливает себе кучу для нужд своих.. - а то что у этого мастера растут руки откуда надо этим он и молодец.. -правда не все мастера умеют делать такие видео.. - но для разнообразия в столярном деле сгодится..

Патент относится к правам пользования, а не к эффективности и гениальности. На самом деле можно запатентовать абсолютно любой механизм, даже не работающий.

Приспособа хорошая для тех, кому надо массово крутить эти диски. То же можно сделать гораздо проще. Понравилось использование подкладного диска на липучке, не надо сверлить тело основного диска. Патентовать, а для чего? Автор, не разбрасывайся словами, смысл которых тебе не ясен. Ты, как видно, не знаешь, для чего патентуется и как это делается.

Great jig. I made a similar one years back but mine was much more makeshift and cruder.

автор, скажу как с 12 летним стажем работы, твоя игрушка просто бесполезна, поэтому её не патентуют, понимаю это название ты написал для ютуба. Во первых новички такое вряд ли соберут, во вторых, твои радиусные заготовки после циркулярки и ленточки потребуют уйму времени шлифовки, а это недопустимо, для это есть фрезер ручной и обгонная фреза, после которых шлифовка занимает всего лишь минуту, в общем это всё зря

And this is an important point. I find it easy to achieve machine shop tolerances with wooden disks on a disk sander using a radius setup. A band saw blade will usually wander slightly in the guides no matter how well you think you have it set up. A disk cut by eyeball on the bandsaw will finish to accurate size and concentricity within thousandths on a disk sander. I get best results with coarser disks, 60 grit or coarser. I believe a belt sander is less reliable than a disk sander, for accuracy.

As a bandsaw jig - great! 🙂 Thumbs up! As a tablesaw jig - OMG that's scary! 😲Thumb off! Just pray the double-sided tape holds.

Perfeito parabéns pelo o invento, só precisa desenvolver um forma que não gaste fita dupla face, ela é um pouco cara, no lugar da rodinha onde bota a fita, fizesse um parafuso pra prender no aparelho e o outro lado do parafuso liso pra encaixa a madeira que vai ser cortada.

Прикольное устройство.)) Клёво то что от ленточной пилы при нарезании кругов, не остаётся гарелости по пилу. Я делал радиусорез (на своём канале) на циркулярку и там остаётся нагар от дисковой пилы. Хотя и пила острая. И углы запила по всякому менял. Но всё-таки это не ленточная.))) Лайк. Подписка.

Excelente invento, mejoraría la fijación con la cinta adhesiva de doble contacto por un sistema más rápido, tal vez con una superficie de lija de grano grueso o felpa fijada con tachuelas, para trabajar en serie más rápido.

Practices with supports in many uses have been applied since the 19th century. It is not possible to patent what has already been discovered. But a nice reminder of the ancient past with new tools.

Sears sold a similar device in the 60s that you could cut circles on a bandsaw or table saw, I remember it because my father had one and made a lot of wooden circles.
