"I don't think we're going to make it" | Backpacking to Matterhorn Peak (Hoover Wilderness, CA)

So... there's this mountain... it's epic, it's menacing, and its 12280ft tall - and we wanted to climb it!
So we hopped in the overlanding rig, drove to Bridgeport, CA and started our adventure into the Hoover Wilderness. We camped in the truck, backpacked to a pristine alpine lake, and tried our best to scramble to the top of this thing. Grab a cup of coffee, kick back, and listen to our story of how it all went down. Enjoy! :)

I need your help! KZread hasn't been recommending my videos as often because I recently changed my content to be more outdoors based. If you're enjoying these videos please do me a huge favor and hit the thumbs up and click subscribe. It doesn't cost you anything and it is the very best way you can help me convince the ol "algorithm" that people like to see these videos. I really appreciate it!

Love your outdoor content. It feels very authentic and relatable not all influencery and fake. And the quality is top-notch!

I really like that you add a bit of camera shake to the tripod shots. Makes it feel like there is a 3rd person there recording your journey. Cool touch!

Jack Kerouac and some friends tried the Matterhorn and told the story in "The Dharma Bums". They went up Horse Creek to the southwest side -- a longer scramble (with maybe a little bushwhacking) than the north face. Back in those days, and up until maybe 1980, there was another natural wonder in the area. Just up from the creek was an imposing terminal moraine with a small glacier beyond. The streambed below the ice could be accessed from the side through an open crevasse. Exploring that world for maybe 100 yards was like spelunking an opalescent castle -- really luminous.

Better than any movie or show! Your channel helps me to slow down and appreciate little things in life. BTW, we have the same tent as you guys - very light and practical. And sometimes when we wake up in the morning and open a fly sheet, we are amazed at the views we forgot we were coming nearby. It is super cool just to lay down inside and occasionally check the views from the corner of your eye.

To answer your question on twitter, YES its worth it! Great video. Please consider that it might not be so "rewarding" in terms of performance, however is so much more "rewarding" in terms of our enjoinment. Much love my friend.

Cody this video is so awesome. To see you working together warms my heart dude. To have a teammate is everything in this world, and y'all really make a good team. Ok yeah the visuals and just sheer magnitude of this hike is also just frigging incredible, so absolute mad admiration for the art.

Killer video. The journey is everything! I always try to explain to people, the places you don’t have to work hard to get to, you will always forget. I can’t tell you how many places I’ve drove to, got out, looked, and forgotten. But when you roll an ankle, scrape up your knees, have to carry everything you need to get there and survive on your back, and rely on a partner to keep pushing you, you’ll never forget it. It makes it immeasurably better. And to capture the journey, failures, decisions, and filming logistics, along they way, that’s super special.
