I don't recommend Saphir Renovateur for your shoes, if you are a beginner like me!!

Hello guys, today I talked about Saphir Renovateur. This is often called Liquid gold and people love this product. But personally I think there are many other better products to use.
Let me know what you think!

You seem to be confused about what Rénovateur is for. It's a leather conditioner, not a polish. It's to rehydrate and condition clean, dry leather BEFORE you polish. Rub a small amount into freshly cleaned and dry shoes just like you would apply moisturizer to yout own skin. Let it dry, and then brush your shoes. It should soak right into the leather and not leave any residue on the surface. THEN polish your shoes. It's really easy stuff to use. It's just a conditioner. It needs to be able to absorb into the leather though. Don't put it on top of a thick layer of old wax. Strip the old polish off, clean your shoes, condition the leather, and then give them a fresh polish. It couldn't be easier. 🤷‍♂️

So firstly, watching the right videos from the people who know what they’re talking about when it comes to shoe care is a must. From everything I have gathered Renovateur is not something that is supposed to be used often. Typically, you would use Renovateur on a pair of shoes that you just purchased that are coming off the shelf where they have most likely been sitting for long periods which drys out the leather over time. Yes, when you apply Renovateur to a new shoe where the leather has been drying out it is going to change the color of the shoe because you are reapplying moisture to the leather through conditioning it. After the first use you really should only need to use a creme or a combo of a creme and polish. If you don’t take care of your shoes or just let them sit for long periods of time you may only need to use Renovateur like once MAYBE twice a year. This also solves your problem of going through it so quickly.

That's exactly true, beginners should listen to professionals. Renovateur is a conditioner, and as a conditioner, like pure mink oil or any other brand's conditioner, it is not a polish, and it is not to be used regularly. Easy to search on google what and when to use a conditioner.

  • @Naurif
    @Naurif2 жыл бұрын

This isn't a product that you should be using once a month for a shoe shine, as it isn't meant for polishing: it's a conditioner (or a reconditioner). If the shoes have been sitting for quite some time or you've beaten the hell out of them and worn them in all kinds of bad weather and haven't taken care of them, that's when you break out this product. And it doesn't take much product to breathe some life back into the shoes (or boots), so you've probably applied too much product to your shoes (that probably didn't need too much conditioning in the first place). I know it's costly, but I look at it as not that expensive because this is something that only goes on once a year or so. And please--don't use this on your Shell Cordovan shoes! Sapphir makes a Cordovan cream if you want to use that for the Shells that you own.

@@willisix2554 Oh really? That's good to know! Renovateur for my calfskin shoes and boots is a good product. But I was taught that Shell doesn't need a conditioner like Renovateur--particularly the lighter colors like the Natural, Amaretto, and Whiskey. I was told that Saphir's Cordovan cream (or a Venetian shoe cream) is the way to go for Shell care. I was also told that a product like Renovateur could possibly darken the Shell and matte its luster, so I've avoided it. I love Horween's Color #8, so all of the Shell Cordovan products I own are in that color (I don't own any Shinki Cordovan products). I don't want them to lose the shiny finish or darken to a near black. I was also taught that Shell Cordovan didn't really need to be polished per se. I have to admit that I didn't believe this at first. But I tried just brushing the products, and it works. I brush the living hell out of the products (especially my wallet), and the nicks, scuffs, and scratches really fill in. The shine is crazy; it's really reflective. But it's really odd though. Sometimes, I can brush for like three or four minutes, and pow, instant shine! But then there are times when I'm brushing for like ten to twelve minutes, and nothing is happening. Anyway, thanks for sharing. It's boot season, and I'm about to break them out for the first time since last season. I might try the Renovateur and see what happens.

I don't want to be rude but most of the information in this video is flat out wrong. I've yet to see anyone use even Renovateur to cause any white residue. • @Kudusole

Thanks for the comment! I disagree because beginners have no clue how much to put or how long they have to buff for. If someone knows how to do that, are they truly a beginner? Yeah, it's not a rocket science, but it's not a natural thing to know either, especially if someone has never seen a shoe cream before.

@@Kudusole come on, you have instruction on the jar. Adequate people wouldn't apply half of the jar on a pair. Even in combination with cream, which I don't find very practical, as cream is not far away from this product in action, you won't have any problem if you follow instructions and common sense. I like shoe waxes and apply them all over the shoes, no problem. Wax is supposed to be used on leather. Yes, you shouldn't wait like a week before buffing off, 5 min will be sufficient. Use harder brush and everything will be ok.

Was not initially aware it had waxes in it. Through trial and error I have found I needed to buff w/i 3-5 minutes to prevent the residue. Then it works great. The problem with Saphir Renovateur is not caused by the waxes because the concentration is just very small to cause any creasing whatsoever. The real problem is the large concentration of solvents in the creme. Renavateur is a no no for hand-painted patina because it will strip the finish. It is safe though with box calf especially black. Renovatuer is ideal after stripping the shoes especially when using acetone since it dries the hell out of the shoes. In my opinion, the best Saphir conditioner is Saphir Creme Universelle Balm. Try it and you will not regret.

Crème 1925 is nice to use when the leather is in good condition already, it’s smells great. I only use renovateur after stripping polish off with Renomat and washing with saddle soap. Let leather dry as necessary, and with Renomat you need to make sure it’s all evaporated dry or else it’ll just break down the Renovateur. Use small amounts , mistake I made in beginning was putting it on like suncream. Let it dry for 5 minutes and buff. Smells divine !

I don't agree with most of your observations in regarda the Reno. I been using a lot Reno in all my CXL, Veg Tan and Oil Tan leathers. It's a wonderful cream to use. It's water based with waxes. ANY leather will patina with OR without conditioners. Unless it's save in a dark and dry place in eternity. It dark leather a bit shade but it's helps to condition it a lot better than most products. Beginners or not this it's not oil, grease or wax that will dark a LOT any leather. Amount to apply? Leather will tell you. Brush, brush,. Brush a lot and will fade residue. Like any other conditioner. This it's my .02 only.

The Renovateur should be used when heavily used shoes require hydration. It should be used once a year. All in all, it will depend on the shoe usage and its environment. Another one to be careful with, though less common, is Saphir's Oiled Leather (Cuir Gras) cream. It's a great conditioner on oil tanned leather. I've used it to spruce up a pair of Warfield & Grand Heist boots in brown oil tan leather. I foolishly used it on some boots in Siedel Double Shot (combination tanned with a slightly waxy finish) to rub out some scuffs on the toe cap. The high neatsfoot oil content gave this leather a wet feel, dulled the waxy surface finish and darkened it a bit. Fortunately it was only on one toe cap and seems to be slowly buffing out and color reverting to normal with wear. Lesson learned to not grab whatever is conveniently at the bench during a late night cleaning session.

The product is not intended for polishing. It is the final stage of cleansing (such as saphir RenoMat) and above all a conditioner-humidifier.You should not expect it to over-clean, but you can apply one layer less than a two-part cleanser (with each pair individually, you need to feel), but it moisturizes perfectly. As long as you have pre-cleaned your skin "Till Open Pores." Categorically not to be applied to neglected pores or as "Every Day Care," if used improperly, you should expect at least mediocre effects, at most negative. Recommendations: - Do not use with every basic care. -After application, soak in, then buff off. -Apply with gloves, one finger, in a very thin layer (it is pointless and expensive to apply several coats). -Dry in a ventilated room at room temperature.

It's important to know what each product is used for. We all know how to wash our bodies and faces so i will use the human face as an example. 1. Wash, 2. Moisturize, 3. Makeup, 4. Set/protect the final look. If we were to translate that to cow skin (leather), we would then 1. Wash (shoe cleaner), 2. Moisturize/condition (renovateur) 3. Makeup (dye, wax, etc.), 4. Set/protect (waterproofer). You wouldnt put lotion over makeup because it will cause it to look cakey. You wouldn't put renovateur over wax for the same reason. All moisturizers have an oily-ish substance in it, but that doesnt function as wax. It helps with keeping the skin/leather supple. So, when you are servicing your shoes, remember that you have to strip the wax off before you use the renovateur, then add the dye and wax to repair the color and shine. After that, use a waterproof spray (optional), but in that order only. Hope this helps.

I completely agree with you. I thought I was doing something wrong. It was the Renovateur and Saphir mirror gloss which completely ruins the looks of the shoe. I had to strip them using acetone and 90% IPA. Thanks for the video.

For me all shoes products with wax in it like shoe cream, wax polish and Saphir Renovateur are useless. Wax makes the laether dryer, more cracky and less breathable. So what is the point of using them? The point is that when you apply wax product on you shoes and want it later on to take care of your shoes again - then you have to BUY new product like saddle soap or Saphir Renomat to remove the wax that you applied before. So the customer must BUY two products instead of one! Make sense now? Mind you that sophisticated shoes gurus claim you have to use ….. five different shoe care products if you want your shoes to last. It makes you BUY five products. I am resistable to all this marketing crap as I worked years in advertising business. I am using only one product for cleaning my leather shoes - that is Tarrago Mink Oil 100 ml. In Europe it costs me equivalent of 7 dollars. You can also use other non mink oils. Once I used even my face cream for the shoes and it worked much better than a wax polish :) Good oil softens the leather, moistens it and makes it waterproof. And thanks to it all of my shoes are in great condition and I don't spend long hours on cleaning them. Want to keep shoes care companies with high profits and spend more money? Then buy wax shoes products. Especially Saphire brand.

Save your money and use Venetian shoe cream. If you are scared of removing color use Bick4, it’s dirt cheap but is color safe but not much protection (no wax)

It isn't pronounced "Rénovatoar". The French "eu" is pronounced like the "e" in the English word "her", the "ea" in "to learn", the "i" in "first" or the "u" in "turtle" for instance. 🙂

renovator contains mink oil and it will darken leather... so do not use on light colored shoes unless you want them darker. renovateur is overpriced for what it is.. nothing special and it darkens leather. it's a pass for me.
