Security can be found without SIA licenses. If a person is hired directly by a company as their employee they don’t require the badge. Contracted security need SIA. Most security are contracted. From a security company like g4s etc so require SIA licenses

@@mentalalec if a person is hired directly by the company as a company employee they can work as the company security role. Door supervisor license is required for alcohol establishments. I work as security for a family business.I gave up paying for the SIA licenses I had when renewal times came as I do not require them anymore. SIA is a money grabbing enterprise. I had badges for CVIT,Door supervisor and cctv. A added note : my Tesco points card has as much legal authority as a SIA badge has. They have no authority above a regular citizen has.

Like all the nuclear power plant run by EDF energy in the UK. They employ there own security guards as EDF employees and they are not sia licenced

Why doesn't he just say I was wanting to know what you were doing in a public place but then realised it was an auditor who knows what's what and backtracked. In house security do not require an SIA licence simple fact, they are just employees of the company and have the same job with much better perks as any licenced officer, the sia licence thing is just a business to make money, believe me I've been doing this for decades.

I LOVE THIS CONVERSATION.

He’s right on the fact that he could have police written on him and it be perfectly legal, you could even go further and wear the entire uniform, but for example, if somebody was to approach you thinking you’re a police officer and you didn’t correct them, that’s when there would be a crime committed.

I actually live in Didcot and would love to see you visit the Didcot Army Barracks on Vauxhall road, it houses the 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Regiment RLC, so would be an interesting watch. The Barracks themselves have been there since the first world war as well. The job centre in the town centre could be interesting too as I've had many issues with staff in there over the years.

Like so many comments already mentioned if employed direct you don’t need sia. I work in building which employs its own security. Their back ground checks are far greater than the SIA. This time a great security officer( I liked him a lot) give an auditor a lesson. Well done that man !!!

Must have SIA for contracted security but not if employed directly by the company, exception is doormen at clubs who are employed by the club but must have SIA

Not every security officer needs an sia badge. If they are hired specifically by the company its classed as in-house security and part of the base company it operates in. If you work for a security company where you are a contractor then yes you need a badge.
