Oh Michael, you ignorant fool. Nobody DESERVES a fancy watch...it's just a matter of if they'll buy one or not. You mustn't bend a knee to the almighty crown, it must bend a knee (or link) to you. Why torture yourself over mere sculpted steel when you are in fact, MAN! Sculpted flesh and bone!! Anyways, today Michael and Big C talk all things watch collection and of course, Rolex.

I’m glad I was able to gift myself a Rolex last year for retirement. But that feeling paled in comparison to when we got the AD call a few months later for my wife’s two-tone gold DateJust with Diamond bezel and Diamond/mother of pearl dial. It was exactly the configuration she wanted, and they had one come in. It was a way to honor her for 35 years as a military spouse with all those hardships, a corporate wife, getting dragged all over the world, the kids, the grandkids, et., etc. her Rolex means way more to me than mine does. Great episode fellas.

My Dad has a Daytona. Ive never seen him wear it. He no longer wears a watch but when he did, most of my childhood, it was a Seiko Kinetic Titanium two tone gold and silver watch. I remember Seiko stamped on the clasp. When i went to buy a watch i bought one with Seiko stamped across the clasp, silver, smaller in size for me, but dressier, not a diver. So similar to his but not the same. I got it because seeing the stamp on the inside of my wrist reminds me of him. His watch is the Seiko he wore, not the Daytona in the drawer. One day I hope to have his watch. It's what he wore teaching me a concept in school, or tossing the ball around, or working on a project.

New acquisitions this year: Polar Explorer II for my 40th and the Mission to Mars Moonswatch cause it's fun. Most worn: Exp II, then my Omega Aqua Tera swapped to an orange alligator strap. Weird thing: I have a harder time committing to a "cheap" watch than I do an expensive one. With expensive watches, I KNOW what I want and work toward it. Cheaper watches, I look at them as "well, that'll slow me down from getting the next expensive watch," so I can't commit to them, lol.

Watches added this year: IWC Big Pilot Mojave Desert, Rolex Day-Date ref. 18238. I am loving and enjoying both to go with my two-tone Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Black Ceramic and Sedna Gold on rubber strap. The Day-Date was the same watch my dad wore growing up, but sold away years ago. The IWC Mojave Desert was a 3month wait on two different lists (both projected a 6-8mo wait). The IWC has been spending the most time on the wrist and fits really well with my wardrobe/style.

Watches added this year: CW Twelve glacier blue; Arken Alterum (delivery Jan24), CW Bel Canto Nero (delivery Feb24); Omega Speedy Hesalite sail strap); Rolex Explorer II black dial; Studio Underdog Goofy Panda; Wise Hitman Hit66 Lyme Special Edition, Wise Adamascus Meteorite 39. I don’t always buy so many but this is just what became available during the year. I usually go months without adding anything new, sometimes longer. The watch I wear the most is my Omega Seamaster that I bought with my wife (before we were married); I bought it new from an AD almost 17 years ago. Second most often watch is what I wear for work (with a suit) Breguet Classique Retrograde Seconds and UN Classico. The Breguet was what I consider to be my first “real” timepiece and as a result is one of my favorites.

When I started my career, my dad passed on his inexpensive Seiko travel alarm clock to me. It’s a gold painted plastic clock that folds back on itself to make a bedside clock. He used it his entire sales career…almost. Anyway, I don’t use it but I carry it in my bag wherever I travel. Even a cheap piece of plastic can hold sentimental value.

Whenever these guys talk about what watches their kids will wear. I think about that scene from The Office where Michael Scott is about to buy a condo, and he points at a skinny sapling tree and tells Dwight that one day, his kids will climb that tree. Then he realizes that he's in front of the wrong condo and then points at the tree across the street and that, no, that one. The idea that years later he'll still be living in a cheap condo, only with a family? Yeah, that's what I think of when these 20 somethings talk about their kids owning watches years from now. It's sweet, though, that they do.

when I first got into watches I aspired to the Rolex fleet. Submariners, Daytonas. I eventually got round to owning a lovely blue dial date-just that I kept for a couple of years. Your taste develops, and I just moved on. I now have two Cartiers, a beautiful green dial Grand Seiko elegance and just find them so aesthetically and emotionally appealing in a way that Rolex didn't for me any more. Its up to everyones tastes and desires, but there's so much more than Rolex that can satisfy your love for watches, its good to explore

I’ve owned 36mm watches in the past, but I just couldn’t get used to my Explorer. It just felt too diminutive and my wrist are only 6.5 . I hope your experience is different. By the way the NOMOS club campus 36 wears much bigger than the Explorer 124270. I keep mentioning the current gen because older 36mm Explorer wear bigger.

Today you can buy a vintage Omega 18k gold men's watch from $1200 to two thousand dollars. Most vintage Omega watches are very robust. I have a 1934 steel Omega that runs beautifully. Many are manual wind. I am wearing now a 1963 Manual Wind 18k gold Omega Seamaster. It is in beautiful condition. You don't have to settle for a low-level watch. I like vintage Omega watches. To pay $5000 and up for a classic watch is not necessary. Vintage Omega watches are available. My 1949 Omega Tresor in 18k rose gold black face manual wind is gorgeous. It is 36mm I paid $1500 for it five years ago. It has an 18k buckle. I would put a value of $3k to $6k on it. It has a sub-second-hand dial . The new of this watch 38mm version of this watch is $17,000. My watch could be worn anywhere and it would quietly say class. To put all your money on a Rolex is foolish. There is a major price correction on Rolex watches now. If there is a stampede of people selling their Rolex the price could collapse. Rolex tried to control the price by creating a shortage. That has distorted the Vlue of the watch. Prices are down 20%. How do you think the people who bought te Rolex at a high price are going to feel.? People could dump their Rolex watchs.

A watch is water resistant, but not steam resistant. I would never wear a watch in a shower.

I take off my shoes, then my watch when i walk into my home, and i put on my watch, then my shoes when i am about to walk out. Watches are a none domestic thing. I never understood wearing a watch in bed, or the shower. It's like smoking in bed. Grose, don't do it.

Do you wear your watch to the beach when on vacation? I do and immediately shower with it to wash away the salt. It’s the only time I wear a watch in the shower.

Come on guys. Seriously? So you are non fake-watch guys, but you don’t mind about other fake products that violate intellectual propriety? Let’s imagine a perfume review KZread account, only reviewing genuine perfumes. Would it be fair to have them adverting a fake watch manufacturer or seller? 😕
