Ok just to clarify: I like the new OST, I enjoy both of them and I know SEGA just couldnt use the old one anymore because of legal reazons. This is just a meme, and only in this format so I could use the Jetzones ver as well. Both themes are great, sonic's ost is always great...... minus the dark brotherhood one, you know which one im talking about. Its just, like I said in the description: Im gonna miss old Ice Cap zone's theme

Yeah, uh, so hard times was an unreleased song made by the jetzons in 1982, and made 16 bit in 1993 but the prototype tracks were in case the tracks didn't work out but now in origins, they sound much... worse.

Hearing the final Ice Cap so quickly after hearing the Prototype version made me appreciate even more how good the final track was.

Carnival Night Zone sounds like waiting and then playing in an amusement park, Ice Cap is more leaning on the sound of snow than Ice, and Launch Base, while not as funky, does fit the mood of marching towards the Death Egg before it's too late. and it's all clobbered by Jun.

They had no choice. It’s because the original Ice Cap Zone music is composed by Michael Jackson, it is highly unlikely they will get it back as it is now Sony Music property.

This one song cant be replaced by random notes

The OG Sonic 3 soundtrack is good and better than Sonic Origins replacement, but atleast the Sonic Origins replacement does a good job remastering the prototype music and making it feel like you are in the zone, the sonic origins for ice cap makes me feel like I am in Ice Cap doing Sonic's thing and go through it with speed

The Proto music (which was 95% complete by the time of its replacement) was vastly superior to the early Midi's that Jun Senoue based his remixes based on. The only issue it had was the same as Starlight Zone from sonic 1, where an instrument would get passed over by SFX

I actually completely forgot that there was an alternate version of the ice cap zone music. I remember the one for launch base zone because I played a Sonic Knuckles collection on PC back in the '90s, but I forgot about the ice cap one

I've already bought Sonic 1 and 2 so many times, that I see no problem in enjoying Sonic 3&K through emulation, including my favorite music. I've given Sega so much Sonic money through the years. I deserve the original Sonic 3 and that's what I'll play.

Yeah, Sonic 3 Complete is still the best way to play the whole game of Sonic 3&K. It's a romhack made by the same guy who later made sonic mania, Christian whitehead, and it combines both games into 1 as was originally planned, and has all these different options that you wouldn't expect to be there, like you can use the levels and layouts of any of the characters and play through them with any character, e.g. play through the full length game including death egg zone with knuckles, plus it has things like the original level order that was planned (until they had to split the game into two). In the original order, Flying Battery zone is in the sonic 3 half of the game, coming after carnival night zone and before ice cap. So the level transition to ice cap, in the original plan, was to have you fly out of the flying battery through the door, which came loose and fell off too, and then you snowboard down the mountain at the beginning on that door from flying battery instead of just a snowboard that happens to be there. All those options, and stuff like that, even level transitions, were painstakingly put in the romhack by Christian whitehead for _FREE_ with him obviously never charging anyone any money to download and play it. Yet, Sega expect us to pay £30 or whatever for sonic origins when it has absolutely nowhere near the same number of options as this romhack from 15 years ago The only thing is, I wonder if Sonic 3 Complete works on original hardware, an actual mega drive. Red Hot Sonic does videos about that so maybe he's done a video on this romhack specifically, I'll have to have a look. But, as it is, I have no desire to play the full sonic 3&K game in any other way than this romhack. It's the definitive way to play it. The only thing that'd make it even better would be if it were wide-screen, but that's no big deal really. The point of sonic games is to play them over and over, learning all the level layouts and enemy placement, so that you can go through the levels quicker and quicker. So you don't need to see what's coming up to know exactly what's coming up, you'll know regardless

Funny thing about the newer Icecap OST is that it's actually been around for a VERY long time. I didn't know about the original song since i never got that far on the Mega Drive version. I did however have the PC version from AGES ago when Sonic 3 and Knuckles was on the CD-Rom for PC and the newer icecap song was already there.

Just wait till you hear the soundtrack to the steam release of Sonic CD.

Besides, getting the rights to the original music is impossible now because it's not just Michael Jackson's estate they have to deal with but like a bunch of other composers like Brad Buxer. Why else did it take so long for Headcanon to announce the soundtrack to be used in the Sonic 3 portion of the game in between the first trailer, and said announcement?

@@Aiden-Ed Not even Michael Jackson music. It was written in the early 80s by a band named The Jetzons which Brad Buxer was a part of. Brad Buxer also worked on Sonic 3 (who claims that MJ was involved but minimal, on this song in particular his involvement was non-existent). For a while SEGA was not bothered and continued to re-release the game and its' music but suddenly stopped. SEGA's old strategy for releasing copyrighted material without paying royalties was to just do it and hope nobody noticed but obviously someone did. SEGA doesn't want to pay for previous usage of songs that didn't belong to them so they are not going to start now. Ice Cap Zone's song is owned by Fervor Records who makes pretty much all their income by licensing their music out to TV studios and film. So if SEGA wants to use their music Fervor wants money, that is their business model. You are right though the prototype music isn't that bad, it isn't great like the release music is either though. Criminally though it is not made to even sound like it came from a Sega Genesis. If it did it would probably sound a lot better, that music was after all written with that hardware in mind.

That track used to represent Origins isn’t even from Origins it’s from the actual prototype build. It does use the same song as the prototype but it sounds distinctly different.

That's not even the sonic origins version of ice cap theme, thats the s3 prototype version

Nah I only bought it so I could play S3@K since there's no other way to play the game other than playing it online with terrible touch screen controls, and the inability to save your progress. I just really wanted to play it since it's my favorite Sonic game, so I got it. The other 3 games I already have on my phone so I didn't really care for them.
