"i didn't kNOw" - Michigan Proposal 3

Created by Grace, Coopersville to educate yourself and others about prop 3 on the Michigan ballot.
If passed Proposal 3 would provide for a state constitutional right to reproductive freedom. The term reproductive freedom would be defined as "the right to make and effectuate decisions about all matters relating to pregnancy, including but not limited to prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, contraception, sterilization, abortion care, miscarriage management, and infertility care."[1]
The ballot initiative would provide that the state can regulate abortion after fetal viability, except that the state could not ban the use of abortion to "protect the life or physical or mental health of the pregnant individual," as determined by an attending health care professional.[1]

@@5ilver42 what rights would be stripped in what scenario. Lack of prosecution for botched medical procedures and medication complications isn't controversial. Children getting access to medical care outside the consent and knowledge is neither controversial, but necessary. I've seen more than enough horror stories online about mental health crises and fucking pulmonary embolisms that were ignored by the parents to be firm in that position. Not to mention the lack of restriction for reproductive services will only be a service to the tens of thousands of women and trans men who are denied hysterectomy procedures when men get almost no pushback on a vasectomy. Hell my own friends and I had echoes of just such a scenario. My trans dude friend was denied a hysterectomy for endometriosis and being trans while I only got mild warnings before my own vasectomy and I'm only 20. Sure there might be some way for a corrupt lawyer or judge or something to prosecute on an immoral basis, but as compared to the potential good in the form of granting medical freedom and combating abusive child neglect, there's no contest

Barbara Wieland passing abortion without restrictions is dangerous. Terminating a pregnancy up to birth is so immoral and parental rights do matter. There needs to be common sense restrictions if abortion is allowed and proposal 3 will erase all restrictions including those who perform the abortion. It could be a medical assistant who performs it and guess what….if they mess up there is nothing you can do. The waiting period would be erased and so much more. Not too laughable to me. Women, children, and parents….no one wins if this passes.

@Eric Poindexter it literally is not, for example the transgender one under the law they would still need parent concent as they are minors (under the laws around minors), the person who died would still be able to be prosecuted under malpractice not abortion, they can't force people to perform the abortion just that the law can't limit it (businesses can), the doctor wouldn't terminate with that little danger as it wouldn't be advisable, and so on

@@ericpoindexter5177 As per the proposal, the attending has to sign off on it as a legit medical necessity and, of course, the one carrying the pregnancy needs to decide that they want the abortion...before any laws prohibiting late term abortions can be nullified by utilizing this proposed amendment's ability to override them. This video makes an absurd scenario. If this woman was like, "nah, I want to have my baby." This conversation is dead. If the attending isn't insane, they aren't even discussing this in the final trimester. And because this amendment hypothetically is in place, abortions are available and can be done far, far earlier when it is way less invasive and there is substantially less fetal development. The longer this woman waits the harder and more painful it is to do. So choosing to do so then, unless it threatens her life, is probably not even legal after other laws are passed and "just why?" Yours and this video are just awful strawman arguments for what this issue is about.

@@johnnymonoxide9220 one heads the ability/autonomy to make choices as to who intrudes on their own personal property. Whether that's forcefully or non forcefully evicting someone or even defending with deadly force is irrelevant, even and especially with regards to age. Even if you grant personhood to the fetus/baby, etc, the point stands. One could even go so far as to claim a second amendment right to bear arms to defend property. Just swap the arms with abortion pills and let the property be ones own body and you have effectively the same argument for defending your house but for abortion.
