I Didn’t Expect THIS in Sydney, Australia!

This was the longest trip I ever took. Well over 20 hours on the plane and I landed in Sydeny Australia. I made a huge mistake when booking my hotel. Also, when it comes to lodging, there's a mistake you should avoid at all cost. Find out!
Sydney, capital of New South Wales and one of Australia's largest cities, is best known for its harbourfront Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Massive Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.

Welcome to Australia Ivan! I am a black person that has lived here for over 23 years. I am an African woman from the continent. I moved here when I was 18 and I’m now 41. The Italian taxi guy is right, no issues at all. Australians don't have the history of slavery and intense racism like the United States. Life is relatively good for everyone regardless of complextion, gender, religion and more… Life for an African immigrant is not really dissimilar to the experience of other immigrants. The better your spoken and written English, the easier you'll settle, build friendships, start a career and find your place. My colleagues, neighbours and people that have known me for a while just call me Aussie and I honestly feel that way too.

@@IvainTures I think many Australian indigenous people Aborigines and Torres Strait islanders may disagree with the other commentor in regards of the history of racism in Australia. I was there in Australia as well and had a great time as a black american, but i did not conveniently dismiss the history that occured in regards to the indigenous Aboriginals and Torres Strait islanders. Many indigenous Australians in Synedy live in Red Fern i believe, when i was there over 20 years ago, but things probably changed. There situation is similar to Native Americans in the United States.

Welcome to Sydney! You actually don't need to stay right in the CBD. If you look at the train map, you can pick any suburb within 5 stops from Central station and you'll be fine. And it's cheaper. The public transport here is convenient. Catch the train, ferry, tram - much cheaper than taxi/uber, only use them for emergencies and you'll save heaps. Just tap on/off with any credit card.

Welcome to Oz mate! As soon as you said how much the uber fare was at the beginning of the video at the airport I just knew that you'd booked a hotel waay out in the suburbs somewhere, seeing as the airport itself is only about 4 miles or so from the city centre (I live out in the northern suburbs about 12 miles from the airport, and my uber fare is usually about $65 including tolls). As the 2nd driver pointed out, many Sydney tunnels and freeways (and even the famous Harbour Bridge for that matter) are tolled and these tolls can all add up quickly to easily be up to a quarter or more of the total fare. You made a wise choice to relocate your accommodation to the city centre where you can easily walk to most of the famous attractions or take a tram, train or bus to nearby suburbs. I highly recommend that you catch the ferry from the city (Circular Quay, a short walk from your hotel) to Manly beach for a great day out, and you get a half hour sight-seeing cruise on Sydney Harbour each way at the same time for like 7 bucks.

I lived in Melbourne in the early 70's & being from Brisbane which had more English, Irish & Scottish migrants I was shocked the first time I walked down Sydney road in Coburg. The smells were European the shop signs were all in Italian or Greek & some Turkish . I was lost. I got a job as a crane driver & the leading hand down below also used to give me a lift to & from work .HJoe was the nicest man that you could wish to meet .He was Italian . And one day I was a bit upset as my wife had just been told she had a lump in her breast )My Mum died of breast cancer when I was 15 months of age) & He Yelled at me in a very angry voice & reacted with Get Fu**ed you WOG . WE almost came to blows over it then after work I was walking out thinking how I was going to get home when Joe pulled up beside me & said "Do you want a lift" I almost cried & immediatley apoligised. I have never used that term since .

Assuming the upgrade was with PlusPoints through the Mileage Plus program. Don’t want people thinking that they offer complimentary upgrades on international flights. The only way a complimentary upgrade happens is if a cabin is oversold and even then you would be bumped to the next class of service which would be Premium Economy if you originally booked Economy. Good video brother.

Ivain, quick history to add onto Mr taxi Drivers. Convicts were sent to Australia after America declared independance and stopped the convicts being sent to America. Many Americans arent taught that prior to Australia, America was one of Britain's original penal colonies. When the first fleet arrived, there were 60 different nationalities on board. Free people also came to Australia, it wasnt just all convicts, but its fun to find out if u do have convict background. I think Aussies love the underdog and convicts arent seen as crims, but more like heros for fighting against the system and the British militia. Ned Kelly was one of our most famous and loved characters. Our treatment of aboriginals in the beginning was deplorable. Many convicts would team up with aboriginal groups and fought the "man". But too many hellish practises occurred including taking aboriginal children and raising them in a white society as christians and refusing reunification with their families. The same story across the board for British colonialism. We also had something called the White Australia Policy which meant that the gov could pick and choose who came here and with what skills. Generally the people who most faired well in being picked were anglo europeans. The Policy was dropped in the 70s and the doors were opened to an influx of immigrants from all over. Racial tensions were large for about a decade as we were introduced to many cultures all at once. Aussies demanded the best from immigrants, they were expected to work and be productive and that was the mindset of everyone. Its still the same, anyone can be an aussie, just make sure u work for it. Racial issues have always been here and in some extent still are. They arent on the same scale of hatred as America, but it does exist and I would be a fool to deny it. In the end, your taxi driver was correct in his description of 1950's Australia. He would have arrived on the Italian migrant ships. The country was in dire need of people, so the gov started a program to bring in migrants. My grandmother was a migrant when she arrived in 1925. But they wernt called migrants then, they were referred to as New Australians. The British also had a scheme called the ten pound pom. They were ships of Brits who paid ten pound per person to move to Oz. Yes we are an expensive country, thank the gov for that. But we get a great wage in the most part and we have lots of government benefits. The country is relatively safe, crime exists, dont think otherwise. Guns also exist, but illegal to carry. People can be mouthier absolutely, because we dont fear losing our life to a gunshot, but, in saying that, people hve lost their lives to a coward punch (king hit).

Oh, it's so much easier and cheaper to get an Opal card at the Sydney Airport train station and catch a train to Central Station, and from there, book a hotel that is within walking distance to Central Station. Will save you heaps of money and headaches, for sure! Take advantage of the public transport system there. An Opal card will get you on the trains, buses and ferries. Also, catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly. Such a great trip! :) Much better than Melbourne, we don't even have a train that goes to Tullamarine Airport, just the 'Skybus,' which is a private bus that is more expensive than public transport. Sydney has a much better public transport system. :) You can see some of my Sydney vlogs on my channel. I'm hoping to travel to California, soon, thanks for the inspiration! :)

Ivain you need to know our salarys are higher and so everything costs more as well. Salarys in the US are so low and so is everything else. I was in Philadelphia for a month B4 I emigrated to Canada. Was there for 13 years B4 returning with a husband and 2 girls.

The public transport system in Sydney is excellent especially in the city taking taxis and using ubers is an unnecessary expense. The train from the airport maybe a bit dearer than the normal suburban trains but its still way cheaper than using taxis.

Depends on how many of people travelling. If it was a group of 4 (family), uber is cheaper. If it was alone, train is cheaper.

Welcome to Australia Ivan! $120 aud is about us$78 for the taxi i to the city. The trick is to share with other people as most people will be headed into the city. The train is super easy and quick. You need an Opal card that you can buy from a machine. Staff everywhere are very helpful and can direct you. Signage is also very clear. I always see AUD$ as 1/2 of US$. So just half every price you see and you won't feel too ripped off.

Welcome to Australia, Australians get paid a decent wage, so everything is more costly ( we dont tip) everyone has the right to earn a decent wage. Public transport may take more time (our country is huge) but costs less.

Transport in Sydney is much cheaper than uber and taxi. The maximum that you will pay is about $16 per day for trains, ferries, and trams combined. The train from the airport to the city is a 15-minute journey, so I don't know how you got the idea that it was 1 hour. I must tell you that this wonderful Italian driver took you around the world to get to the city because I recognise some of the landmarks. He ripped you off severely.

I second phanoonki s comments about the summit at mt druitt. If you face south south west from the top the westfields will actually reflect the light from the moon every 3rd Thursday at 26 o’clock . Beware the bad moon rising each Tuesday at 4 near adams tavern Also I knew his mum she was a shallaoxious wog but you get that at her age , especially in the 1970s when Fanta was green and primeministers wore tweed The best cab rank to invert your tour of the nightlife is definitely circular quay . Those guys really know how to sauce the salesmen if ya know what I mean You visited during Sydney’s greatest month which I call novembary it has the warmth of January with the charm of November. Also we just finished daylight savings which is my favourite time of year to buy a clock. I’m sure you can find a good sale somewhere before u leave Take care and enjoy

Featherdale wildlife park is an option to visit in picturesque Doonside. Doonside is a wondrous community of beautiful people that are charming and friendly. They won’t steal your wallet! Oh, make sure you climb mount Druitt. Not many people have done this! It is spectacular at the summit. The summit hosts a Westfields shopping centre. The cab driver is right in the sense that it is multicultural these days. My mum went through the racism of being a wog at school. She had similar experiences to the second cab driver. Australia is a very different place these days.
