I'd forgotten the sheer comedy of Bakugo coming in yelling, essentially, "pay attention to ME!" and Todoroki being like "so, about Midoriya. What was he like as a child?" Bakugo's disappointment is completely fair, but I like that they didn't just have Todoroki get over his past with one inspirational speech. No magic solutions, but he's able to draw on that match and think about it and then, *after the tournament*, take concrete steps like going to see his mother. Ending that episode with family scenes, particularly from Iida, Todoroki and Uraraka, is very cool. They've all shown how their feelings about becoming a hero are strongly influenced by their families, in very different ways, and it feels like a really natural way to lead into the next episode, where the question of hero names is also inherently about what you want your identity as a hero to be.

I'm so glad that you get why Bakugo is angry about losing to Todoroki this way. So many reactors just see it as an over reaction. While the extent of his reaction is extreme, Bakugo is always extreme with his reactions lol. It is hard seeing Iida in such a dark place because he is the responsible one. He is that constant that everyone depends on, and those are the people everyone just assumes can handle anything thrown at them. Knowing how much you like Iida made me sad knowing that this episode was coming. So excited to see more :)

I think I relate to how competitive Bakugo is hahaha and yes seeing my boy Iida hurting is making me sad

"I cannot stop twinkling" still remains my favorite hero name of all time 😂

Bakugo angrily brushing his teeth to get the 'germs' of the (to him) unearned gold medal out of his mouth will never not make me laugh.

Idk I kinda like the idea that this is his everyday morning routine, just angrily telling the germs in his mouth to die 😆 Bakugo like "I have a lot of yelling to do today, I cannot allow this bad breath to persist 😡"

21:12 she was admitted when shouto was 5. this is his first time visiting her in ten years 21:47 i wouldn’t say rei is crazy, but the amount of mental strain she would’ve been put under definitely took its toll. endeavor sending her off to the hospital without thinking why that might’ve happened shows how much he only cares about making shouto into a Number One Hero (also, if you want to be sad: todorokis scar was a scald, which normally heals pretty well, but using ice or anything cold can cause a scald to scar over. rei has an ice quirk, so the first thing she probably tried to after she hurt him was help him heal 🥲) 35:15 saying “gravity” with a japanese accent makes it sound like “guravity”, but since her quirk puts things in zero g, “guravity” - g(ravity) = uravity! great episode!

Okay I love your explanation of Uraraka's hero name, that is some prime level punning! It's a cute catchy name on its own, but knowing how exactly it's playing on the word and her quirk makes it even better!

i absolutely Love the moment where rei (that's todoroki's mom) turns around and sees her son. the last time he ever saw her eyes, they were completely filled with despair. she was an abused, terrified woman pushed to her breaking point. now, we get to see her and todoroki in the process of recovering from what endeavor did to them. such simple imagery, but so powerful.

And now we get ready for one of my favorite villain arc

I haven't seen anyoneention it in these comments yet, but fans have long made a certain connection about Bakugou on the podium. Besides the fact that chainin him up onto a podium he didn't want to be on kind of. Staekly, uncomforrablt emphasizes something that will become more obvious in the stain arc, in regards to how the spectacle of heroics is put above even the meaning of heroics and the feelings of people, the specific way he struggles in the muzzle visually resembles episode 2 where he was struggling against the sludge villain. I can't imagine that being in that constrained position again, with his mouth covered and everything, would've been pleasant, keeping in mind what happened with the sludge villain and the fact that just like Deku, Bakugou at one point also almost suffocated from that. I love how you look at him as a character, though. A lot of people, this early in the series, tend to look at his attitude, and not give a thought to what's beneath them and why he does some of what he does, so it's really refreshing to see someone who is willing to really look at him and understand him, glaring flaws and all.

The training arc is over and another action-packed arc begins! I actually think you will like Stain, I think he meshes well with your values and personality. No spoilers though! :D

I hated Bakugos attitude.. but I always admires his drive to ALWAYS WIN! Even if sometimes he pushed the bar quite far but he's definitely grown on me

Whenever you sing 'my hero academia' at the start of your reaction, it makes me smile...my 8 year old does the same thing cuz he's so excited to watch. The infamous Bakugo Oi Oi Oi at 5:12 is the notification sound of my phone at that same 8 year old's request because Kacchan is his favorite character. Watching you watch my family's favorite anime is a joy. Keep up the good work! Also adding, you switched at an awkward spot but i would recommend watching the dubs on a rewatch. Since I watch with my kids we have to watch the dubs and I watch subs on my own first. But as far as dubs go, MHA is pretty top notch. And the tranlations and humor are catered to English speakers.

Bakugo is just one big ball of rage even when there’s nothing to be mad about 😂 If you ignore his nonsense I really like his hero name, which you won’t know for a while ~ Ah Iida :( it’s a good lesson ~

Oof, yeah, the stuff going on with Iida is rough. This next arc is good and I cannot wait to see your reaction to it but...oof. The code names are fun, some of them are really goofy and some of them are really good. Although I always forget that Todoroki literally just uses his first name, like, dude, really? With "Icy Hot" right there? I do like Midoriya picking "Deku", essentially turning the name Bakugo used to bully him as kids into a hero, taking away the power of that name and turning it into something new. And I think contrasting that with Iida's choice, if he had written Ingenium, that would be powerful in a different way, essentially declaring his brother's time as a hero officially over. Whether he's not ready to admit that, or because he hasn't yet earned the name himself, it's very powerful that Iida didn't pick that name.
