Yep I spend minimum 1000 dollars a year on protective styles for my hair because I simply don’t have the patience for it it’s always in box braids or twists or something else

The fact that a person has to do a disclaimer for whatever they chose to do to their own hair is just not it.

TIP: Make sure your texlax recipe and processing time is the same each time you do a touch up. If not, you'll end up over time with different textures all over your head which will cause tangles later. Speaking from experience!

You are very right, I had a relaxer and my hair was naturally type 4, after relaxing it many times my hair turned wavy with some areas with little curl. Had to perm my already damaged hair, and now have a big chop

For those complaining about dryness; When you texlax your hair treat it as relaxed hair. Use relaxed hair products and relaxed hair protocols . Using natural hair products will work against your hair. So do your research, take care of you, do what makes you happy and be-you-tiful!

I know right, been there done that. There is no in-between. You are either Natural or Relaxer. There is nothing like in-between. Texlaxed dries the hair and the follow-up relaxer makes it even worse. I learned after my 2nd big chop. I'm done with messing with my hair.

I am loving how hair care for us black women is changing. Do whatever you want with your hair. Natural, relaxed, straightened, colored, it's all good as long as you are happy. I became natural when I was 13 and for a long time I thought that I could not have fun with my hair if I was natural and it was only during quarantine that I decided f- it and went and dyed my hair bright red and cut it really short. It was hideous and I hated it but it was fun and then I had orange hair and now I have a purple bob cut and I straighten my hair all the time and I feel great. I'm tired of people judging us for how our hair looks and I'm glad that more black women are caring less. Do what you want 😁

I had never heard of texlaxing till I saw this now I’m interested. Because your hair still looks very natural but it seems easier to deal with and I want that, I’m over this natural stuff because my hair stay braided because that’s easier way for me to deal with it. I’m impressed.

If you are committed to the maintenance then sure go for it. I was texlaxed, but it eventually became a nightmare. I recommend Brazilian Keratin - less permanent damage

I’ve seen so many people go back to relaxer, after many years of being natural. Most of them, say they have no regrets and their hair is healthy. It makes me wonder, if the commonality is the natural hair journey itself. I’m not ready to take that leap yet, but I for some reason find these videos enjoying. Stay Be-you-tiful ☺️

@GeminII* I’m not disputing that they’re enjoying their lower-maintenance hair journey, but most of these girls who are back to relaxers have barely reached a year post relaxer. Follow the ones who’ve been in the game much longer and you’ll see what I’m talking about 👇🏾 The first few months are usually bliss. Then the dryness and brittleness begins. And it just progressively gets worse until your hair feels like watering a plastic plant - the water just doesn’t penetrate! Plus I notice this is especially true for 4c hair. For some reason, type 3 hairs take to relaxer muuuch better than 4c. Anyway, only time will tell

@@MM-we4no -Yes, after reading more comments, I noticed just a few comments, complain of dryness, brittleness and breaking. The time being natural varied (if they mentioned it, at all). As you’ve stated it has much to do with technique. For those that are seeing these issues, I believe it’s because they’re attempting to treat the hair, as though, there’s nothing to be done, except wash, blow dry, flat iron and go. (Probably overusing heat as well) They believe the maintenance is simpler, than it actually is. You can no longer treat the hair, as you did in its natural state, and you can’t quite treat it, like relaxed hair. The chemical bonds have been changed; therefore the fabric of the hair has changed. The most important of those is porosity and texture. That’s why I love the comment sections, because there’s so much to learn and so many questions can be asked and answered. People of African Descent, have the most versatile and beautiful hair on the planet 😍.

@GeminII* sorry, to be clear, I didn’t mean the duration of time that they were natural before they went to relaxed/texlaxed. I mean, the duration of time within which they have been relaxed/texlaxed. Just like with bleach, the first few months post relaxer are usually ok, then you start to see the effects of the damage Also, I don’t think it has anything to do with them not deep conditioning their hair - these YTers I’m referring to still used to DC, moisturize and seal. I also speak from experience as I’ve relaxed my hair thrice in my life, and didn’t use heat a lot during those times But once the relaxer process effs up your hair - ie if it’s over processed or maybe the lye doesn’t work well with your hair - there’s no amount of deep conditioning and protein treatments you can do to restore it. In the end, it’ll just break off.

I was previously natural, but pinning for straight hair or looser curls every damn day. Then I relaxed my hair and immediately got bored. I missed my shrinkage and volume and resented giving it up just to rock a short straight hairdo. I made my hair straight and it wasn't the best version of straight hair according to me. I would need a sew in to achieve the volume and length I wanted. So why didn't I just get a sew in with a closure in the first place? Now I'm three years natural and trying not to make permanent decisions for temporary problems. I'm enjoying my journey now.

I had to google what texlax was. Do not take away my Black card. Have had locs for 22 years. Had no clue. I sincerely didn't know. Just another way of saying texturized. Got it! It looks nice.

@@sylviaruth5008 No yours wouldn’t be considered texlaxed. Relaxed is when you get it chemically processed to be bone straight , no kinks. Texlaxed is putting chemicals in it but still having texture and volume. Some people texlaxed and still have curls just looser

I just feel like people have to do what’s best for them. When my hair was relaxed I felt like it was it’s healthiest actually. So I can never agree when people say that relaxing eventually shows damage and that it’s ongoing. I went to the same person for years and got my new growth relaxed around every eight weeks. My hair was mid back growing and thriving. I felt like I started having issues once I hopped on the natural train. I’ve been thinking about texlaxing. I was never ignorant to the differences in upkeep of natural or relaxed hair. I’m pretty serious about my hair care. But I too am tired sometimes lol. I’m not trying to look European. I would actually love if my curls would pop. But they just don’t. It’s been 5/6 years. I have 4c hair that is below bra strap when stretched but ear length with the shrinkage. It is such a struggle. Natural just not for everybody and I been questioning if it’s still for me for a while now. I workout daily sometimes 2x a day and I spend so much time trying to manage my hair that I personally don’t get to fully enjoy it. Taking care of the hair that’s coming from your head is a personal experience. I didn’t go natural to only wear braids, wigs, and “protective styles” etc. I wanted to enjoy my hair out in its natural state and I don’t. I don’t enjoy the journey lol. I don’t idc. I’m seriously thinking about doing this.

Same! My mom permed my hair when I was younger and that was the longest my hair had ever been until now. I went natural in middle school but my hair became so damaged because I didn’t have the patience to deal with it and I was an athlete. I went back to texturized last march and my hair is just passed shoulder length. I’m noticing that my hair thrives in this state rather than it’s natural state. Like you said, I just can’t agree with people when they say that relaxers/texturizers are damaging because that’s just not my experience. Everybody is different and everybody is entitled to do what they want with their hair. I think the natural hair community has become toxic and judgemental.

I think I would have gone back to relaxing a long time ago if it weren’t for the imposed shame and accusations of rejecting your heritage and wanting to be something you’re not if you relax your hair. I’ve matured past letting those perceptions affect me. It’s not that deep over here. People need to stay in their lane...do what’s best for them and let others do the same.

My hair must be 4Z🤣🤣, I tried texlaxing a few years ago and I kid you not my hair barely changed texture. It did thin out a bit but that was it. From that day I learned that what works for others might not work for me. My hair does whatever it wants 🤦🏾‍♀️

Relaxed/texlaxed hair can definitely be healthy, and often I have seen it in better condition that some natural heads. The only time I have had problems or seen issues is some combination of relaxing too straight, relaxing too often, using a no-lye relaxer(eventually just dries your hair out), or heat styling far too often with relaxed hair(best to keep it occasional). If you relax your hair, condition it well, and mostly leave it alone like healthy natural heads do, you will end up with healthy relaxed hair.

I like that you mentioned leaving it alone and how important keeping it conditioned often just like natural hair. I feel like I am more educated about hair to the point where I can have healthy relaxed hair this time around. I love taking care of my hair but MAN my 4c hair is taking way too long to take care of not that it have grown since cutting my loc after post partum shedding. Now my hair is longer and I'm ready to be free from the long detangling times and the 50%+ shrinkage.

I really don't think a lot of people who recently went natural, actually want to go natural, (as in embracing whatever naturally comes out of their scalp) but more so wanted someone else's hair. I have seen African people on this platform show surprise and disappointment at having Afro coily hair rather than curly, which is so confusing.

The black natural hair community was high jacked by the curly naturals (I'm not saying black people can't be type 3 but majority of us are type 4). We created this expectations because whenever we see natural hair being representated majority of the time its type 3 hair, also texturism doesn't help at all, people still discriminate textures like type 4b-4c hair. Lets not forget that type 4 hair is very dificult to deal with specially when you are not used to, a lot of these women where used to comb straight hair or loose curls. If we saw more representation of type 4 hair wether its weave/wigs or real hair, we encouraged mothers to not relax their daughters hair since young and we made type 4 hair as a standard probably many of these women wouldn't be confused or suprised about their coily textures.

Most go natural for hair length as natural hair grows faster and thicker . Than when it gets to the desired length they use a relaxer or some other type of treatment for longer and fuller loose curl or straight hair . No one can embrace and represent tighter natural hair better than the ones with that hair texture .

How long have you been texlax? When I was texlax I found it hard to keep getting the exact texture each time. Some hair would be straight, some curly etc.

@@francasmith445 hey babe my hair is still curly and soft I have straightening it as well and it’s still curly lol I do have a lot of thick hair, but it is more manageable and I wish I woulda did it sooner honestly. I can finally lay my edges lol I say just put it on your roots not all over and get it on quick and off fast and it’ll be perfect I love my hair now

You were so lucky. Your hair is so resilient. Relaxing totally messed up my hair, and going natural was the only way to keep hair in my scalp.

My only advice is to measure everything you add so when you do touch ups you get the same results. Your diluting the relaxer and you want the same solution every time to make it consistent!

I couldn't deal with the inconvenience of natural hair-all the deep conditioning, limited hairstyles that were actually predictable and the expense of trying new products that come in tiny bottles. I texlax now and am very happy with that. Everyone needs to do what's best for their personal situation. Good job on your texlax!

I figured it all out because there was no KZread hahahah. I don’t identify by my hair state or type so I say, be happy and do you. I loved watching you get pure joy from touching your hair❤️

Your hair came out beautiful. I'm glad you decided to do what's best for you and your lifestyle. I was natural for almost a decade (2009-2017) and could no longer deal with spending hours doing my hair so in spring of 2017 I went and got a Japanese smoothing treatment (a Japanese perm left on curly/coily hair for 15 minutes then rinsed and neutralized) and I've never looked back. I still have my curls and coils but my hair is permanently elongated and it takes me mere minutes to detangle, wash, and style my hair as opposed to hours. I regret nothing.

Been considering “leaving the natural community” because of the constant pressure, high standards and judgement.. I think imma do this. I’m nervous thought cause my hair is so knotted now (4Z hair), and it’s so hard to detangle and manage. I need relief or imma just be bald forever cause I get so overwhelmed doing my hair and don’t have money to go to a good salon that knows how to treat my natural hair..

High standards? Most of these “natural” hair channels have texturized their hair and there are literally 0 real type 4 channels out here. Sis do what makes you happy and don’t afraid of these people

I relaxed my hair all of middle and high school. Now I went natural all through college because I left my hair dresser (mom) at home and I am TIRED of it!! Everyone is up in arms about me wanting to get the korean straightening treatment because they love my hair and I'm like...okay YOU come wash it for me every week

You dont have to wash it every week. Washing yout hair is very drying. You could honestly wash your hair once a month

I love your final hair texture, it’s the ease of manageability for me afterwards which is worth it abeg.

I've had better results on my daughters hair by using an oil to protect the hair from over-processing. She has been tex-laxed before. So, to protect her curl pattern we put olive on all of her hair (root to tip). We try to ONLY put the relaxer on her unprocessed hair. We don't want the relaxer to process any part of the previously tex-laxed hair. We keep it on only about 2-5 mins after application. Usually works pretty well. She's super happy with her relaxed curl pattern.

I texlaxed before too but once it came to the new growth- now that’s a challenge to not over straighten at that point. Eventually the hair started breaking and I cut of all the texlaxed ends and went back to 100% natural.

Just did my touch up today ! 🙌🏾 I did my virgin relaxer last year before the 4th of July. I have ZERO regrets. 🤗

I’m sooooo happy I loc’d my hair!! That fact that I don’t have to do anything to it besides keeping it clean and moisturized. I’m absolutely in love. So Ladies if you’re tired of figuring out what style to do next, should you stay natural or perm? It’s not growing, no edges. Just loc it SIS. It’ll be the best decision you’ve made 💜

Be careful with locs though. Dry rotting is extremely common with locs and many who try to undo the locks after 5-6 years will more than likely end up back in TWA phase. A lot of these videos of women undoing locs and having long lovely hair is RARE! Most of the time, it will break down to the roots or 2-3 inches from the roots.

Loced my hair for five years just cut it in January. I hated it. I loved not having to do much with it but it was limiting and accumulated lint like nobody's business no matter what I did. I missed the look but I think it's just my hair texture that posed an issue.

I'm so tempted! I love the use of olive oil and conditioner to "dilute" the effects of the relaxer. That's a really good shout! Hmmmm, it's great watching it on YOUR hair, but my texture is not as full so that's what's scaring me. Anyway, your results were LOVELY!

From a 4c natural to a 4c natural; i feel you gurl! s'bout' time, i grew a pair, and did the same. My hair's about 6 - 10 inches, but i'm unable to grab it in a bun and go. You're sooo brave!!

I have 4C Hair and I felt everything you said at the beginning of this video. I went a very different route and got microlocs. The 8 hour wash days, the detangling, the drying times all began to wear on me and my hair began to suffer 😩 I was natural since 2014 and I was OVER IT! I hope this process gives you some time back and relieves some stress for you.

Do you sis! Results looks good. I used to texlax my hair for years before I transitioned to natural. And my hair was healthy thick and flourishing. I grew it out to almost waist length. I transitioned to natural because the maintenance was too high. Caring for my hair in it's natural state is easier for me.

Can you do an update video in 4-6 months? I see a lot of video of people texlaxing their hair and then they never do an update!!

I can definitely relate to this video , I had relax hair for over ten years then I transitioned cut it and went back natural, after 4 years of natural hair I relaxed it again , and after about 2 years again I cut it all of, today I've been natural for 7 months . It's definitely a rolacoster ride for me and my hair , I have a love hate relationship with it😂😂.

You are not alone it’s such a struggle! I’ve done the chop Atleast 5 times in the past I’m in my 3rd relaxed state and I’ll be here forever my hair is just too thick and hard to manage

I telaxed my hair and it looked so fire and then it all broke off 😂 so I started over. I really want telaxed hair though 😭

By chance, did you use a lye or no lye relaxer? I've seen usually the culprit is a no-lye that eventually dries out the hair and breaks it off.

@@achicha It's either risk a burn or pretty much doom your hair to break off. No-Lye relaxers leave calcium deposits along the shaft that cause your hair to become dry and brittle over time, making it almost impossible for many users to accumulate length due to eventual breakage. Personally, I have never had a problem with lye. I use the ORS Lye relaxer for normal hair, and I spike it(mix in) some olive oil and deep conditioner. I then base my scalp, all around my forehead, neck and ears with Vaseline. I also use it to cover my already relaxed ends. Lastly, I keep some neutralizing shampoo close by. I put some of that on my already relaxed ends as well, and dab it on my forehead or wherever it starts to burn, if it does. But adding oil and conditioner to the relaxer as well as basing your scalp and surrounding skin greatly reduces that chance for me. Or you can go to a pro that knows how to keep it from burning you (technically it's not even supposed to touch your scalp).HTH

@@m.jessica8742 Same here, I don't have an issue with the Lye relaxers either. I texlax once a year. I don't put the relaxer too close to my scalp so I never have an issue with burning. I also don't leave it in my hair or rub it in my hair. My whole process takes 12-15 minutes. I only relax my curl pattern a little, making my curls a little elongated. So my hair still looks natural, but it is much easier to manage.

Imagine, your hair texture is how mines is but only in the middle of my head and around my temple area. The other perimeter is like 3c/4a. I'm so frustrated with the various textures, I started to heat train my hair. I don't care anymore. I'm too old to be fussing with my hair like I'm in grade school..

I have the same thing. Very loose hair at the crown and front, very tight at the perimetre. I just keep my hair stretched because of it (not with heat)

Although I didn't dilute the relaxer and left it on the back of my hair too long bc it has the tightest coils and got it a little too straight, but I still love it. @@Ohemaa I hear you, sometimes we compare ourselves with others, but for 2 years, your hair is thick and very good quality and great length. Ps: I hear you about the one side being longer than the other. My right side is longer and thicker than my left. I had a hair cut in January, to even things out, and my right side is back to being 2 and half inches longer than my left. sigh....

I texturized my hair and I LOVEEEE the results. I still maintained my curls. Putting almond oil in after as well as leave in conditioner and putting my hair in Bantu knots got me right! My only regret was not doing it sooner. I was making my life hard (natural) for nearly a decade 😅
