I think it depends. If you want more quick hits and have a shorter work time span, DD is better, if you are doing longer shifts Instacart is a good way to break up the day. Good content!

I do both. Some days I just don’t feel like shopping so I do mostly DD. If DD is slow, I turn on IC. My best pattern is DD for breakfast and then IC between 9:30-11:30. Then back to DD for lunch. I rarely work past 3 pm. My goal is $100/day, so if I start early, I’m usually done by 1-2. Sometimes I sleep in, lol.

I am an old guy with a compromised immune system. Instacart drivers delivering groceries from publix have provided every bite of food that I have eaten in the past two years. It doesn't matter if you believe the pandemic is real or not. I sent those people into the store to get my food because I was afraid to go in there myself. My heroes get good tips, and thank you so much for this.

I've always tried to tip well since I know people are working hard to help people out. But having this additional information about how this works out for you is helpful. Two key take aways, reviews are very important for the person doing the deliveries, the tip is very large percentage of the income and must not only pay for the persons time, but also the fuel and wear and tear on the personal vehicle. If you communicate with the customers while in the stores, find good replacements when items are not in stock--or refund if need be, and bag up their orders correctly you'll be all right. Most delivery companies pay $2-3 per delivery maximum so even when customers think their $5 tip is great for a $20 order, plus delivery fees, it doesn't make sense for the driver to spend 40 minutes and gas completing that order. What no one seems to talk about are the long waits from the restaurants who refuse to comply with order times because there are no repercussions to do so. If the customer's order is late or cold, they blame the driver instead of the restaurant. Customers and drivers lose, restaurants and tech apps win.

MY doordash days are pretty similar to this video, and as long as your not driving an ancient potato with a V6+ in it. My daily gas cost is usually about 20 to 25 dollars. n thats in my dinky lil 2012 nissan versa. If we get a nasty blizzard and im banking on being one of the only dashers out on the road. I'll take the big 4x4 duelly out, and the gas price for the day explodes to 60 dollars. But usually I make double that in bonus money paid by doordash for being one of the few dashers out n about. if you have a pretty open day. just going out for 8 hours straight is dumb. In my area 5:30am to 8:30 am usually nets you a bonus 3 to 5 dollars a delivery due to low dasher numbers, and high order demand, and 9:30pm to 1:30am.

I did Uber for a few months. I also did deliveries, I never got any tips from my deliveries. I stopped doing this because after I factored in the cost of gas, taxes and car maintenance per dollar I made it was not coming out to be worth it. I also factored in the time that I was spending away from my family and how tired I was to still have to come home and take care of them. I was a housewife before I started doing Uber and I still had to do my same duties as I was doing the rideshare so for me and my family, it was not worth it. I really wish that active drivers would include mileage in their income and also, I wish they would let us know what percentage of their daily income they’re putting away for taxes and car maintenance. Even though this was not an issue for me, I just don’t think gig work is sustainable because gig work offers no benefits because if you’re doing this for a full-time job, the money you make also has to be portioned out for health care (vision, dental if needed) and extra car insurance because you are on the road more often.

It would also be nice to know if you made any tip money above and beyond the total you included here or if this number already had tips factored in (and if it did how much of that total was tips) Too often people put up gross profit numbers instead of take home net and it can be difficult to tell if it was actually worth it in the end.

Depending on where you live, those 16 miles doesn't take long to travel i would imagine. As someone who lived on Long Island, it would take forever for that $25. But if you live near a hwy or where traffic isnt too bad, might be 40 minutes total to drive to those customers. So if you break it down, to about 1hr worth of shopping, you're still making about $13 an hr being your own boss setting your own hours. That's pretty helpful when you're a single parent with special needs kids you can't find a babysitter for. Hell, a 4 hour day sounds like I could easily make about $50 a day when the kids are in school. And i could be out and about for a minimum of 6 hours and make $75 a day. I didn't start yet with them. But to my understanding, the earnings instacart will pay for your travels vary on the state you live in, as well as the cost of gas in your area. Since this guy has a southren accent, i assume he doesn't live in a $15 state wage minimum. Which means instacart is not going to pay as high as a competive wage as if you lived in say, CA or NY. Either way, $50 a day sounds good to me when you are unable to work due to other factors.

Yesterday I did a double Safeway shop and deliver. Just to get paid since I can’t cash out until I do my first 5 batches, didn’t know that I would have never done any. And ended up shopping for 3 hours and it was 50 items. I wanted to cry for real. I’m never doing that again.
