Alas, a testament to our nations healthcare system. While these life saving machines are available, most insurances won't cover the cost to have this done. Mix that in with insurance rates skyrocketing in cost year over year. This video reminds me of the movie 'Elysium', where life saving treatment/equipment is available, in limited quantities, and only to the wealthy. Great Video though!

What part of of these tests are life saving? Any doctor could tell that this patient has arthritis. And you say the costs of medical care is already expensive, are you suggesting that we routinely order 2500$ MRIs for patients with minimal or no symptoms? Do you know how much that would increase the costs, with little or no benefit? I agree, our health care is not ideal in this country. But we would be much better served if we put that 2500$ per person towards almost anything else, like programs to help people eat better and exercise more. Heart disease and diabetes kills way more people in the US than anything I would find on a random MRI

@@DrMachine6 did you actually watch the video and process the information!? These tests can scan the full body for abnormalities/issues that may/may not have symptoms. Thus catching diseases or issues early enough to treat. This in turn could save more lives. As far as the cost, insurance carriers charge $2500+ yearly, even if patients don't actually use it. A yearly or every few year full body scan, as a preventative measure, should be standard. Healthcare should give everyone an even playing field, not just those that are wealthy.

@RJeezy55 arthritis is not a life ending illness. As far as aneurysm goes, family history could tell you that, and unlikely that they are going to put in any coil in the aneurysm. Also, for every "life altering thing" they do find, they will find more benign cysts or tumors that require biopsy, causing more anxiety and procedures and money. If there was evidence that doing more scans saved lives, the FDA would have approved it and Medicare would cover it, they would make so much more money that way. But there's no studies that show that

You Do realize that when Elysium fell, it meant that now Nobody could have those life saving treatments. Right?

@@RJeezy55 Your comment is you testing positive for retardation. Yes, if expected benefit of something is lower than its cost, it Shouldn't be done. Here, the probability that something is found for which early treatment would make a difference is low. Even though the benefit of saving a life is high, when it is multiplied by the probability of that happening, the Expected benefit is lower than the current cost of these scans.

1:23 MRIs are not radiation-free. They use radio waves, whìch are a form of electromagnetic radiation. They do not use "ionizing" radiation.

I'm fun at parties too. Everyone in the world is immersed completely, inside and out, with radiation from every direction at all times. Even these other nay-sayers neglect that there is trace ionizing radiation from the rare earth metals in the magnets!!!11! But in common parlance, yes, MRIs are radiation-free.
