It mainly shattered because he hit the muzzle brake on the tank infront of him first. It has happened to me quite a lot. You can see the hit impact before it hits the Leo.

Apds is mostly bad on early vehicles, but gets better on later tanks, but wasn't really a highly used shell in the war, apcr wasn't even used in large numbers in ww2, and apbc is okay both in real life and in war thunder but it wasn't the best nor the most effective shell by the end of ww2

APCR/HEAT was the standard round for pattons for a while, while it's APDS for british. You would think they know what they're doing and the real shells couldn't possibly be this bad IRL.

He should just play the IS-2 again. It only gets full up tiers, and despite having 200 mils of penetration and a shitton of explosives, it doesn’t penetrate or doesn’t do any damage at all. Twice I had an American tank driver eat the entire 122 millimetre shell and then die because of that

I think they changed the APDS by giving the earlier APDS more flat penetration but significantly worse angled penetration while giving later APDS (using better tungsten alloys) less flat pen and slightly more angled pen.

Yup, a good comparison is between the Chieftain and the Conq. Chief APDS spalls like APFSDS and is significantly better than what the Conq has at the same caliber.

That'll be because they switched from Tungsten Carbide on the Conq to Tungsten Alloy in the Chief. Carbide gives much better pen but doesn't spall as much as alloy.@@barronhelmutschnitzelnazi2188

the real crazy thing is that in real life to my knowledge APDS actually has better post pen damage than APFSDS does (to an extent, it does kinda depend on multiple factors) so once again it is laughable at how Gaijin unironically thinks that a 6kg+ APDS round passing through a tank at mach 4 does less damage than like 57mm APHE or APFSDS like from the 2S38 but yep no bias here

nothing is better then outplaying the enemy, always firing first and hitting weak points, surviving the long reload and doing it again, and again and again and never getting any kills because you are shooting high pen potatoes and tank crews fight on after getting huge lumps of spall and brains on them

I just play the Caenarvan instead since it spalls almost the same with a faster reload. Turret is less trolly, but it does better in situations with more than one enemy nearby

The Conqueror holds a very dear place in my heart, it's a gorgeous looking tank that is very enjoyable to play, but sadly it feels like Gaijin keeps making sabot more and more scuffed with each update. It's sad to see such a potent vehicle completely neutered by just a few small changes, but thank you for covering it regardless

Sabot. Firing an uncooked spaghetti and hoping you strike the pasta intolerant portion of their ammo rack.

For what it's worth, I have noticed quite a bit more overall positivity in your recent videos. Like you've been able to squeeze more fun out of the vehicles you play. Which is great to see! While depresso Spook is funny, a happy Spook is just a delight.

I really miss when the conqueror was good. The shell shatter mechanic was such a bad idea. APDS already had bad post pen damage, its one strength was it's penetration. Used to love playing my early cold war British tanks... now they're just useless

@@gotohyoshihisa3971 Legit was my favorite tank before they updated SABOT. Your amour works if the enemy panics, which when as massive tank rolls around the corner they tended to do. Your stab allows you to fire on the move. Enough Pen to Put the M1 Abrams to shame. But now its like Coin Flip, SHELL SHATTERED or it pens and does nothing .

If sabot round actually had this efficiency nobody would ever use it ever ever

When it comes the the conqueror it is easily one of my favorite tanks in the game, if people struggle to one shot with the round i can understand that but as i am mostly a British main I'm quite used to the round type and can frequently 1 shot tanks, this tank has allowed me to win multiple 1v4-5 engagements and i am quite happy to see you make a video on it.

I love the editing man. So funny. Also love the positivity! Definitely noticeable and I think you put just the right amount.

I hate to say this Spookston, But your suffering useing apds is extremely amusing to me😊 I absolutely love your work. Keep on keepin on

​@@Maktumekal_Ilzreiwith the conqueror and trying to do that, it's such a gamble. HESH doesn't seem to be moddled with the amount of explosive mass it actually has, so over pressuring is inconsistent, and then if a teammate kills you, you end up with HESH and a 25s reload 😢

I would absolutely love to see you play the m42 Contraero at some point, it’s so incredibly good. As an Italian main we don’t get a lot of great vehicles but it’s definitely a diamond in the rough.

I found binding up tank controls to a split throttle HOTAS was actually kinda fun, and opens some different mobility options with smooth turning

The m103 tank has that 120mm full bore solid shot you mentioned, and a high velocity heat round with a rangefinder

it speaks volumes about how bad the conqueror's APDS is that, in all the videos i've seen of you using sabot, this is the first time i've seen the shell shatter so consistently. i haven't even had that happen to me in normal gameplay, and i've only seen it on like, the m41D video?

I'd really love to see you play with the german Marder 1A3 or the one that comes before, it's a really fun vehicle with the missiles it gets! the 20mm is awesome at taking out planes and helis with the HE belt and the AP belt can take out any light tank that isnt a BMP (atleast for the older Marder)

Honestly the conqueror is my fav tank maybe cause im the type of player who stays at the perfect position away from active field of battle and snipes enemies or i just find the amour stabs and gun very good but all in all its good for staying hull down and sniping

To reduce camping and not playing the objective, what do you think about after capturing a zone. The spawn detection area increases on that part of the map behind the cap. It would prevent people from just driving past the objective and sitting just outside the enemy spawn. Also it would incentivize capturing as it would give you an advantage on your side of the map.

While I agree the APDS is hit or miss, I still very much enjoy the magic Conq and although you may not make a follow up video I implore you to try the HESH before casting it down to the underworld. Not sure what they did but HESH is WILD rn; it overpressures like an HE while having the original spall affect as intended.

Today i decided that i wanted to play the british techtree for the coqueror. Spookston: "hold my beer". AND STILL NO LEO 1

also, the addon armor actually can make the tank LESS survivable. the driver's hatch is only 17mm cast (so 15-16mm RHA effectiveness), so a 100mm+ HE/HESH detonating above it will overpressure the crew through that plate. and the addon armor makes any shell explode closer to that port, so it is easier to trigger the overpressure.

Watching Spookston's chain of unfortunate events is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love your suffering content, man. It makes me feel a little better about my own suffering while playing this game.

I was having quite a bit of fun in my Conq even after the sabot changes, there's only a handful of vehicles I really had problems with. One of the main ones being the Centurian Mk10 variant for Sweden, not being able to pen its front plate because its 2 plates on top of one another (not even spaced, literally touching) causes it to just, not pen. Some others being the HE slingers or any other larger "squishy" targets that have a lotta open space as well, british sabot doesn't like to ammo rack.

Hey Sparkston you should do a "mechanic" challenge video where you can only run around the map repairing teammates and can only engage a target if you're defending a repairing teammate

The sabot from the 105 gun of the german leopard and turm 3 is so good. Perfect post pen damage and no shattering at all, as I have played it. Try it out and you will be stunned by sabot

Position yourself to show as little of tank as possible to limit the area enemy can hit. Try angling you chassis to utlise that sweet sin function that increases your "effective armor thickness". You need to learn where are your weak spots as well as enemies. That just comes with experience. You can play with "protection analysis" option in the hangar, but do not take it at the face value because in some cases it gets inaccurate when compared to actual battle results.

Spook they recently fixed HESh(not buffed) so now it always behaves like HE and causes spaling inside the tank if it does not pen, instead of randomly only doing one or the other. Made the Shit Barn actually playable. I remember once my 183 shell hit the gun of an SU100P and did not kill the thing, because it was armor pen time and not HE time XD

You'd think that if the round is so prone to shattering it would also have quite some adverse effects on the crew of a target when it does penetrate, but no apparently it's either completely solid and pens with little spall or turns to dust the second it hits armor.

Honestly, GB 7.7 is my favorite br ever, you get downtiers frequently, have a nice array of vehicles the Conqueror, Caernarvon, Centurion mk.3 and more. The Conqueror on long range maps is amazing as it has a rangefinder and amazing armor at range. Caernarvon is just a beefed up cent 3, same gun, same turret better hull can bounce some shots. Centurion Mk.3 has actually decent speed for British tanks and the reload on it is quite nice. (same for Caernarvon) I have a special preset called "The C's" and it just contains the conq, caernarvon, cent, and the cent avre.

It's really tragic. I remember when the Conqueror was able to bully IS3s with it's sabot. It was basically a lolpen cannon that was usually a one or two-shot kill so the long reload wasn't as much of a handicap. But that's fun, and Gaijin doesn't allow fun.

Could you play the SK105? I overlooked this tank for a long time but it's very quickly become one of my favorites, it's pretty fast and has a 4s reload with sabot and gen 2/3 thermals, it doesn't have a stabilizer but the armor is cheeky and can bounce large caliber shells sometimes

Seeing the first shot in the video go straight through and simply hurt the driver was painful.

I remember when this came out. Thing was a total beast. Top tier IS-4, M103 and Conqueror and the Maus - hose were the days.

I've bin grinding 7-8.0 brits and this is legit the story of most games at current. Then sometimes the silliest of derp shots will nuke something. Then it's back to Oh. My shell shattered? On a bmp?

At a first glance I thought the title said “I desire this tank.” But I quickly realized it was the complete opposite, and completely understood as soon as I saw it was British

The Conqueror uses tungsten carbide for it's APDS which holds together really well but that's about it, it doesn't spall or break apart as well as alloy and it's design meant it dealt with angled surfaces less effectively than tungsten alloy found on the Chieftain. This is why the Conq and the Cent mk.10 can feel pretty shit to play sometimes as both are using earlier APDS that's harder rather than the softer later APDS.

I've actually quite enjoyed this tank recently. Sure it sucks more now, but idk I still like it. I've had some insane matches too. Shell shattering is common of course and made even more painful thanks to the long reload, but I still manage to do well and get a lot of one shots. Haven't even touched the hesh bc I don't trust it to work

Funny thing is, the late APDS on the l7 guns like the Chieftain and Vickers spalls much better
