I Debate Prakhar Gupta on "Self Help"

Ойын-сауық

In this podcast, Kushal speaks with Prakhar Gupta on "Self Help." Kushal is known to be sceptical on this subject, and Prakhar has written a book, "Don't Shut Up: How to Talk So the World Listens," where he tries to reverse the quintessential Indian cultural advice of 'shut up’ and teach people how to talk there way through life. This book has several chapters on different situations, i.e., how to handle conflicts with your dad or how to make friends anywhere.

He doesn't emphasize enough on how many of the things he says about History is something that we are not certain about but we can try to contemplate what might have happened. He says alot of it as if it is proven or certain that some things happened . But the evidence for the certainity is not there.

People used to learn these things from their elders or some viral audio clips of the likes of Rajiv Dixit, even that only to a certain extent. So I'm happy that at least it has become a part of daily conversation.

This debate proves that reading more books teaches you word formation, not thought formation. For the latter, the most important input is observation with a quiet mind. A real intellectual doesn't depend on credible data reports to take right decisions. Unfortunately, the statistics has become numerical verbosity. For example, Veer Savarkar believed in Aryan Invasion theory but his thinking is so beneficial for the masses.

I personally think that most problems in India are either unheard of or not discussed. If discussion happens it usually is Between two groups/individuals who are already very militant in their approach to anhilate the other's view which often leads to nothing. If we really think , most of our problems can be solved by healthy discussions with intellectual honestly. These kinds of discussions should be encouraged in India . The usual masses don't like to think about these issues because they get easy Ready made world views from " self claimed intellectuals or saviours" and then as a byproduct "mob - mentality" emerges which will hardly discuss anything, keep aside a healthy discussion ( echo- chambers). Thankyou for the wonderful podcast🙏🙏

Kushal gave fringe element examples of self help videos and says he’s scared. He peddled doomsday scenario by saying if it goes in this direction, then government is going to legislate laws. When Prakhar flipped the table and said that in Kushal’s area also people say illogical things like he gave example of a podcast he did with someone, then Kushal dodges it. Prakhar’s energy was down when his point was not heard and Kushal kept clinging to his point of view. Prakhar said indirectly perhaps that he doesn’t want to offend Kushal because he is elder and his fans might abuse him. I want to counter Kushal about him being scared of the fringe Baba’s giving tona totka advice and clubbing it with self help: look at Dhinchak Pooja, she is cringe content creator, she calls herself “singer” but do people not know that it’s cringe? Who really admires her for her singing skills? People make fun of such content.

Like, i did an offline surveys at work, college, university, most of the agnostics and atheist, engineers, STEM field, mathematicians, critical thinkers, etc which requires patterns were neurodivergents. Or have different brain chemistry from a neurotypicals. And this can vary from person to person interaction and set and settings**. Is it the missing information and data that makes your consciousness locked or lack of self introspection? Or people are on survival instinct and they become conscious only when shit is about to hit the fan?

The best way as of now is to reduce them before 40 seats. And the best nail in the coffin would come when they will neither be in power as a single majority party in any state nor the main opposition. Literally I didn't understand anything , it just felt like two people are showing off their vocabulary or new words made by leftish and using it to show that's its an intellectual debate . See as an iit roorkee student who is a actually a intelligent guy having hold on geopolitics , inversely and blah blah I didn't understand the thought . It felt like prakhar has learned some definitions from books and just uttering in front of him. I can't really expect a normal guy to understand anything out of it . If I am unable to understand than I am sorry 99.999 percent people can't. I am funking learning aeronautical engineering in iit roorkee I didn't find that thing harder than this show off debate . Kushal your monologues are best that's all

Well quite the narcissism I must say! I would disagree here. I say this is not your cup of tea. The idea's they talk about here are much more personal and target people who have gone through a kind of self improvement or atheistic or kind of self analysis stage in a sense of doubting quite a lot of stuff. I find this episode quite easy to follow and for sure disagree I think Prakhar has some great points to make, his ability to articulate so precisely is admirable. Though I do see his vocabulary might through people off but well he stayed in US for quite a lot of time so of-course his English would be somewhat unique. You being in IIT or aeronautics is of no point here, sure you try to overshadow your insecurity by saying these things but it's like saying well behavioral biology has lots of jargon's and points out of my realm which are really hard to interpret and seem showoff does not undermine the field in anyway. Though I'm pretty sure a lot of people can and will find this content interesting just not you but the right people will.

Well, I agree with the fact that he uses fancy words and intricate sentences to voice his opinions and he might be doing that on purpose or it's just his way of articulating either way, it doesn't 'matter how he wishes to say it's his choice and you being in IIT or pursuing so and so the course doesn't connote that you will necessarily get things that common people don't at least be rational and not be so narcissistic
